13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony

Hilary Swank continues to give red carpet master classes, this time wearing a Monique Lhuillier Fall 2009 black gown.

The cut-out details some how make the actress look even more slender and taller, and the embellish details prevent this from being a boring black gown.

Oscar buzz will guarantee you one thing – an endless supply of stunning dresses to wear on the red carpet – and that’s exactly what Carey Mulligan has been wearing lately.

The style-icon-in-the-making wore a Prabal Gurung Spring 2010 black beaded chiffon strapless dress with shirttail hem and silk faille bowtie to cinched in her waist.

She teamed her dress with tortoise-shell heels and a chunky gold bracelet.

I’m loving the quiff.

Zooey Deschanel is probably the only person who I feel dresses up with tights, rather than covers up with tights.

We often see her in various colours of tights, but on this occasion she opted for black to match the black trims on her cute Luella Spring 2010 dress.

Her look was paired with Martin Lewis for Luella bow accented heels and a black Chanel bag.

Like the runway model Zooey wears a black bow in her hair, but she opted to wears hers at the back.

There were a lot of black dresses at this event, but Kate Beckinsale’s Michael Kors Resort 2010 dress was made interesting with the asymmetrical neckline and the draped detail on the skirt.

Long gold earrings and a chunky cuff complete the sophisticated look.

Despite Diane Kruger being one of the few not to wear black at this event, I wasn’t crazy about her look.

She kept her look light and feminine wearing a Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2010 white silk dress with a rise and fall hem, but unfortunately the nude heels really let her down.

I loved how this gown billowed on the runway, and although that drama is lost on the red carpet Diane still tried to make it work.

I also preferred how the dress sits above the knee on the model, the length feels a bit awkward on Diane.

Julianne Moore is not afraid of colour, as she wore a beautiful coral dress with voluminous sleeves.

I adore the colour on her.  She can be so breath-taking at times without much effort.

The actress paired her dress with Chanel ankle strap heels, and a black Bottega Veneta Impero satin clutch.

Michelle Monaghan looked stunning in a black strapless dress with a floral embroidered detail on the bodice.

She glows as brightly as her Martin Katz jewels.

Dare I say this, but I’m bored.

Charlize Theron normally blows me away each time she hits the red carpet, but I can only get excited about her red Louboutin’s with a gold toe cap and Bottega Veneta clutch.

Her The Row ensemble is very meh!!!

AnnaLynne McCord provided the sultry glamour I was expecting from Charlize, by posing seductively in a one-shouldered black gown.

Taraji P. Henson is wearing a really nice Rachel Roy dress, but it somehow feels out of place at this event.

I’m also not loving the hair extensions. She worked the shorter style really well.

What’s most tragic is the make-up. Why does she have a layer of white powder under her eyes?

Best Dressed Of The Week – Blake Lively In Victoria Beckham Collection & Hilary Swank In Vionnet

Many of you were very vocal about your surprise that Blake Lively took an early lead in the poll this week.

The Gossip Girl actress was the eventual winner, wearing an elegant Victoria Beckham Spring 2010 black peplum dress with a lust worthy pair of Christian Louboutin heels.

Jennifer puts this win down to Blake “owning this look”, and Justme said “I think the reason Blake is winning is because it’s harder to pull off fabulosity in a simple VB black dress, whereas it’s easy to do so in a beautiful gown”.

Hilary Swank was my favourite wearing a stunning Vionnet Grecian gown.

She glows and the gown flatters her figure.

Hilary looked so regal red carpet at the Amelia premiere, it took me back to the 2005 Oscars when she was a knock-out in the stunning navy blue Guy Laroche gown.

It gave me that same special feeling which is partly because of the gown, but also because of Vionnet’s rich history.

Vionnet Makes A Return To The Red Carpet

Madeleine Vionnet was a French fashion designer who’s label was founded in Paris in 1912.

She was called the “Queen of the bias cut” pioneering the process of draping; inventing the bias cut and making dresses from one piece of fabric thus liberating women from the corset.

I personally don’t remember seeing a Vionnet gown on the red carpet in recent times, but two looks from the Resort 2010 collection designed by Rodolfo Paglialunga appeared on the red carpet, on both sides of the Atlantic last night.

First up was the new kid on the block, Carey Mulligan who braved a cold October night in London to walk the red carpet at the “An Education” premiere during London Film Festival.

Her bordeaux Vionnet Resort 2010 jersey dress with the trademark draping on the hips was accented with a gold floral brooch.

I will imagine the caped detail on the back kept her warm the poor lamb. Us women have to suffer for beauty.

Nude coloured Vionnet heels and a deep burgundy clutch completed this beautiful look.

The red carpet veteran Hilary Swank probably had to deal with the same sub zero temperatures in New York for her “Amelia” premiere.

She opted for a petrol green Vionnet Resort 2010 jersey gown, which also has the same trademark draped detail which doesn’t appear on every piece in this collection.

Tall, statuesque and elegant as always Ms Swank has just booked her self a spot on the BDOTW poll.

Opening Night Of The Middle East International Film Festival

Last night was the opening night of 3rd Middle East International Film Festival.

Hilary Swank was definitely the belle of this ball looking exquisite wearing an asymmetrical Elie Saab Fall 2009 Couture draped gown, which is fully embroidered from the tip of her shoulder pad to the hem of her gown.

She’s rarely on the red carpet, but she ALWAYS delivers.

I’ve waited most of the day to post this hoping to find a picture from the front, but this side on shot is all I could find.

Demi Moore was also at this ceremony looking drop-dead gorgeous.

The actress wore a strapless J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2009 gown which has a gold lining.

The simple dress is paired with a black pearls necklace, and a black/gold clutch which perfectly matches her gown.

Egyptian actress and jury member Menna Shalabi wore a Naeem Khan Spring 2009 strapless gown.

I always loved how this grey gown with a ombre orange skirt looked like a flame when the model walked the runway.

Freida Pinto wore a simple black gown with cut-out detail on the waist.

The gold trim on her dress complemented her gold clutch and the gold ribbons in her hair.

Who Wore Marc Jacobs Better? Leighton Meester or Hilary Swank

Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester received a birthday surprise when she appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” back in April – it was her 23rd birthday on 9th April.

As she walked into the studio, Fallon had the entire audience join in the surprise as tons of confetti were released.

He wore a special birthday hat during the show whilst she wore a Marc Jacobs blue, black and yellow print dress with Christian Louboutin Differa heels.

Hilary Swank wore the same dress during the same month, when she arrived at the “Los Angeles Antiques Show opening night preview party” at the Barker Hanger at Santa Monica Airport.

The Oscar winning actress wore her dress with black open-toe sandals whilst carrying a black shoulder bag.

I predict Leighton will win this, but I much prefer this dress on Hilary. Leighton wears the matching self-tie too high up for my liking.

2009 Cannes Film Festival – “Looking for Eric” Premiere

The good thing is god actually answers my prayers.

I asked for Valentino at Cannes, and in the space of 48 hours we have seen 4 stunning gowns take to the red carpet.

The bad thing is with Rachel Weisz wearing a very similar dress last night, this blue ombre high neck Valentino Fall 2009 gown which Evangeline Lilly is wearing gives me a huge case of de ja vu.

This was one of my favourite Valentino collections since the master himself left, I wish she’d picked something else.

All that said, it is a beautiful gown.

NO, No, no, no.

That make-up doesn’t work with that stunning Atelier Versace Spring 2009 gown, which is a shame because Eva Herzigova looks amazing from the neck down.

Eva wears the same gown which Donatella Versace wore just 8 days ago, with Chopard chandelier gold earrings.

Despite loving this Festival, their are so many re-runs.

Rachida Brakni aka Mrs Cantona, arrived with her husband, Eric Cantona wearing a pale pink Sonia Rykiel Spring 2009 dress.

The floor-length halter dress was adorned with feathers on the skirt and appears to be less transparent than it was on the runway.

I loved this dress on the runway, and I’m glad it translated well onto the red carpet.

She looks magnificent.

Grace, beauty, class and elegance = Hilary Swank.

The rise and fall hems were prevalent in Christian Dior and Nina Ricci’s collections, and I go back and forth as to whether I like the style but I can’t fault anything on Hilary.

The gunmetal grey is a great colour for her, the sweeping updo is so classic, the multi-colour pearl Chopard necklace is just enough jewelery, and her matching Swarovski clutch and Sergio Rossi sandals complete the look.

For me she’s breath-taking.

Model Doutzen Kroes gives us yet ANOTHER re-run.

She is wearing a full-skirted printed Azzedine Alaia grey dress, which Zoe Saldana wore to the London Star Trek premiere last month.

Her dress was paired with black Azzedine Alaia leather lace-up shoe-boots, but I don’t think this is a good look for Doutzen at all.

2009 Costume Institute Gala – The One’s I Missed

The Costume Institute Gala was bigger than the Oscars in terms of pictures, but I was determined to find Oluchi Onweagba, after Dominika was disappointed I didn’t feature her the first time around.

Dominka I promised you, if I’d found these pictures yesterday, I wouldn’t have left Oluchi out intentionally. Talk about goddess.

The gorgeous model is simply breath-taking in her black and white Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009 gown.

January Jones was also a golden girl wearing a Michael Kors metallic long sleeved shift dress.

I’m getting a early Sienna Miller hippy 60s chic vibe from this look.

Anna Friel goes way too short in a sassy lace strapless bustier dress, with strappy black sandals.

She’s a little too naked for this type of event imo.

Rosario Dawson wore a bubble-gum pink Diane von Furstenberg strapless ruched gown.

I love colour, but I’m not getting much va va voom from her, just like I didn’t get it from Eva Mendes.

Arriving on the arm of the designer herself, Elizabeth Banks looked fantastic in an Alberta Ferretti mini dress.

I love the cut with its plunging black sequined neckline, with the navy embellished skirt.

Short, sassy and sweet, that best describes Milla Jovovich as she arrived wearing a chartreuse mini Marni Fall 2009 dress, with an embroidered beaded neckline.

Taupe peep-toes from the same collection completed the look.

Hilary Swank wore a Calvin Klein burnt orange dress. What I like about this dress is the gathered details.

Hilary is such a blank canvas, you can give her almost anything and she would pull it off, so I would have preferred her in something a lot more interesting.

I still swoon when I think about her wearing that stunning Givenchy Couture lilac dress to Fashion Rocks last year.

Cheryl Tiegs looked outstanding and graceful wearing a midnight blue vintage Norman Norell sequined covered strapless gown.

Her accessories included vintage Neil Lane jewelr, and a vintage Judith Leiber minaudiere.

The legendary supermodel showed the new breed what style and class is all about.
