Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Best Couture/Best Dressed Award
I LOVE, Love, Love Hilary Swank in this lilac Givenchy Fall 2008 Couture one-shouldered dress.

The colour, the matching shoes and the draping detail, I love it all.

I would not have thought that Hilary would pick something so edgy, but it works.

I would have loved if she had taken this look further and spiked her hair or messed it up a little.

Best Non-Dress Award
Even in a silver blazer and tight fitting pants, Charlize Theron still rocks it.

Her blazer was fresh off the runway from the Rag & Bone Spring 2009 presentation she had attended earlier on in the day.

She completes her look with a Dior statement necklace.

Surprisingly Fabulous Award
If someone had told that Brandy was going to be wearing a dress from the Lanvin Fall 2008 collection, I would predicted it would be a disaster, but she totally pulls off this Lanvin shiny black structured dress.

And I commend her for making it work, because this is not an easy dress too pull off.

I always assumed that whoever wore it on the red carpet, would make the dress look like a dustbin liner, and she does not.

She completes her look with the now popular YSL Trib Two Platform Pumps.

Best Black Award
Rihanna’s Monique Lhuiller Fall 2008 strapless gown with a ruffled neckline, and a jeweled belt, was so fantastic, that I hardly noticed how much I dislike her current hair cut.

What A Refreshing Change Award
You can normally rely on Beyonce to wear a blinged out dress, or a ridiculous tight fitting mermaid style dress, but on this occasion we have a very cute navy mini dress with accentuated, velvet shoulders.

Very classy, very understated, very chic. I love it.

Best Va-Va Voom Curves Award
With Beyonce toning it down, we had to look to Ciara to provide va-va voom curves, and she did, wearing a stunning black and white sequined Elie Saab Fall 2008 asymmetric gown.

She has an amazing body, and this dress fits her like a glove.

No So Lame Award
For once I don’t hate what Paula Abdul is wearing, in fact I really like it, as it compliments her stunning figure.

The gold lame dress is not over the top, its not tacky, its so not like Paula.

Best Mini/Best Legs Award
Hayden Panettiere really loves showing off her legs lately, and she does so again wearing a multi-coloured chain-mail Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2008 mini.

I much prefer the Heroes star with longer locks.

Best Use Of Colour Award
There was not a lot of bright colour on the red carpet last night, so I thank Kate Mara for providing that, with her Zac Posen multi coloured knit dress.

Don’t You Scrub Up Well Award
Who knew Emily Procter had this in her?

Emily is not one to take to the red carpet too often, but she looks amazing here with her champagne sequined Collette Dinnigan Fall 2008 dress and glossy mane.

Just OK Award
Leona Lewis would have got more than ‘Just OK’ had she worn her beautiful black and white Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 mini dress without the tights.

I love the embroidery on the bodice of this dress.

Best Sparkle Award
I love a sparkling embellished dress, and Molly Sims’ Donna Karan dress is just that.

Most Surprising Award
Vivica A. Fox surprisingly does not offend me, as for once she does not look like one of those honeys from a rap video.

Her look is sophisticated in this black Oscar de la Renta Silk faille embroidered dress which she teams with bowed Christian Louboutin Very Noeud slingbacks.

Most Improved Award
Ashanti goes up and down all the time. This time she does well. It would not be my choice, but she works this heavily embellished fuchsia Marchesa Spring 2008 dress with cut-out detail very well.

Best Dress/Clutch Combo
Award
I love how Elizabeth Banks Stella McCartney’s Pre-Fall 2008 dress compliment each other, but I am a little disappointed with her hairstyle.

Best Dressed Award
Leighton Meester stayed away from the mini skirts and mini dresses like most of her contemporaries, and opted for a very grown up look, wearing a beautiful green Lanvin Spring 2008 Grecian draped cocktail dress.

She accesorized with black peep-toes, gold earrings and a gold bracelet.

Her hair appears to be lighter than usual.

Best Strapless Award
I am not a fan of Katharine McPhee, but I absolutely adore this strapless dress.

It’s cute, fun, flirty and totally unique.

I love the embroidered pattern and the tulle hem.

Best Legs Award
I love this mini purple one-shouldered Tadashi Shoji dress on Blake Lively, her legs appear endless.

The dress is cute and appropriate for the event, but the shoes are so boring.

A gladiator heel, or a strappy sandal would have made a whole world of difference.

She accessorizes with a large patent belt, and a chunky ring.

Most Improved Award
Apparently this dress Lauren Conrad wore is a one-of-a kind custom dress she designed specifically for this event.

Yes I am just as shocked and skeptical as you are.

The sweetheart necklined maxi dress is multi-coloured with blue, white, taupe and orange.

Lauren accessorized with two gold pendant necklaces, gold bangles, and her ‘Lauren’ ring.

Best Maxi Floral Award
Sophia Bush looks absolutely adorable here. Her strapless floral Jenni Kayne Resort 2009 gown gives her a sophisticated air we are not used to seeing on the actress.

Her taupe clutch, belt and bracelet were a perfect choice.

Best Mini Floral Award
Sophia chose a maxi floral dress, but Brittany Snow opted for a mini floral dress, which is simple gorgeous.

The red peep-toes were a great idea, as they compliment the dress, and really stand out on the blue carpet.

Best Sparkle Award
Teen Choice host Miley Cyrus sparkled in her tiered sequined Moschino Cheap & Chic Spring 2008 sequined dress.

She accessorized with slouchy taupe suede boots, which helps keep her look young. She also wore three necklaces of varying lengths, including a ‘Miley’, name tag, a butterfly and half a broken heart.

I wonder who has the other half?

The make-up was thankfully light, and her hair was trademark wavy.

All in all, an age appropriated look, for a change, on the red carpet.

Best Use Of Colour Award
Rachel Bilson is striking in this ceramic blue asymmetrical Brian Reyes dress. The actress wore her one-shouldered mini dress, with a pair of strappy khaki heels.

Her nude make-up is fresh and flawless.

Best Hair Award
Vanessa Hudgens’ trademark wavy hair, was last night replaced by sleek iron straight hair.

With her cute dimpled smile the young actress wore a beautiful Catherine Malandrino three-toned tiered strapless dress.

She wore her dress with a two-tone crystal clutch and Mischa Barton favourite Christian Louboutin Mad Mary Janes.

As always, Zanessa stole the show, by cozying up on the red carpet.

‘I’m Not A Girl’ Award
Hayden Panettiere wore this very elegant, and interesting red, pink and white watercolor silk strapless gown, which cinched in at the waist.

The elegance is complete with her up ‘do.

Just OK Award
I love the fuschia skirt on her Jenni Kayne Resort 2009 ensemble and the multi-coloured necklace, but if it was not for those two elements, Kristen Bell would have faded into the background in this ‘Just OK’ ensemble.

I think she was trying to go for an edgier look wearing, than we are used to seeing on her.

She has had better moments on the red carpet.

Most Glamourous Award
Olivia Wilde has an air of regal elegance about her.

Her BCBG Max Azria draped and ruffled ivory dress and grey belt, was accessorized with a gold clutch and peep-toes.

Best Heels Award
This is the second time I have featured Danica Patrick on my blog, and I have noticed that she loves funky footwear.

The Racing Driver’s stand-out gold gladiator heels, complimented her gold studded belt which she wore with her grey/blue strapless dress.

Best Tutu Award
Danity Kane are not known appearing on Best Dressed Lists, but Aundrea Fimbres looks so cute in this strapless Elsie Katz Couture Spring 2008 mini tutu dress.

The dress is made of chrysanthemum brocade with rulled petticoat and hand-formed crystal beaded blossoms from the Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

Best Clutch/Shoes Combo Award
I do love yellow and denim, they always work well together.

Jordin Sparks breaks my rule of wearing jeans on the red carpet, but for this teen event, she is forgiven.

The singer was the most casual at this event, wearing a green layer t-shirt with a pair of dark wash jeans.

I am still pleading with her to remove those streaks in her hair.

Hayden Panettiere unfortunately could bring the LA sunshine to this rain soaked event last night, but she did delight in this red empire-waist Moschino Spring 2008 mini dress, with an exaggerated double tiered flounce hem and cap sleeves.

She completed her look with a pair of bronze Christian Louboutin peep-toes.

The Giles Spring 2008 prom-esqe dress Lily Allen was wearing looks very cute, but is decorated with prints of a bleeding Bambi’s. Not so cute.

What is also not so cute is Lily’s hair. I mean is she for real?

Yes it matches her dress, but just does not work in the grand scheme of things. I preferred her dark roots.

She teamed her dress with a pair of multi-blue Louis Vuitton shoes.

TV presenter Alexa Chung opted for a Luella Spring 2008 peasant-style embroidered strapless minidress, with black booties.

Beth Ditto’s Matthew Williamson Fall 2007 dress could not be any louder, but I continue to applaud her for not taking the safe route.

Her gold gladiator heels are by Alexander McQueen.

Estelle wore a chiffon black LBD from the Kristian Aadnevik Spring 2008 collection, with the bust and waist emphasised with sexy leather details. She teamed the dress with a pair of leather Sergio Rossi black lace sandals.

Emma Bunton will never shake off that “baby” tag, but she is all woman in her black beaded J’Aton Couture gown, which had a plunging neckline and a wide patent belt.

The new mum showed off her new chic bobbed hairstyle.

Dannii Minogue also wore a J’Aton Couture gown. Her stunning white gown was beaded throughout.

Danni is either glowing, or she moisturized very well before leaving for this event.

Geri Halliwell channelled her inner glamour-puss in a blue embroidered wet-look gown, complete with a fur boa.

Not a look I would favour, but Geri makes it work.

Mel B was determined to be the Spice Girl who stood out, and did so in this fuchsia v-front gown by Jenny Packham.

The dress is loud and revealing, but I would not expect anything less from her.

Tamara Mellon of Jimmy Choo won Accessories Designer Of The Year wearing a forest green mini Balmain Spring 2008 dress.

Keeley Hawes who won, UK TV Actress Of The Year, wore one of the most one of the most spectacular dresses of the evening.

Her voluminous, corseted cream gown is just a artistic master piece. She teamed the gown with bronze shoes.

Kate Beckinsale was named Film Actress Of The Year and collected her award wearing a chocolate full-length halter-neck Herve Leroux gown, with her hair loosely tied-up.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the new face for Burberry, looks very elegant in her terracotta gown and fur boa.

Kelly Osbourne opted for a vintage embroidered gown, from her mothers collection.

Joanna Page, winner of Comedy Actress of The Year, wore a cute silk frilly butterfly print Matthew Williamson Spring 2008 dress.

Kimberly Stewart opted for a short purple satin tunic dress with Miu Miu heels.

With her Jimmy Choo Aster snakeskin sandals, Katherine Jenkins wore this Hervé Léger Color block bandage dress.

This is a huge change for Katherine, as we are used to seeing her in structured dresses or cute frilly dresses. I would have preferred if she had opted for a more wild and adventurous hair style to fit the dress.

Model Daisy Lowe wore a strapless squared tulip dress and red shoes, whilst her beau Mark Ronson, opted for a classic velvet tuxedo. They are so hip it hurts.

Ferne Cotton wore a black silk Moschino minidress with Jimmy Choo heels that had a fuschia platform and heel.

Britain’s Next Top Model judge Lisa Snowdon, wore a very interesting tuxedo-style mini dress.

Annie Lennox won the Inspiration Award and was very much the golden girl in her sequined dress.

Worst Dressed/Worst Hair Award
So much is wrong here, it’s hard to decide where to start.

Jennifer Love Hewitt should have decided on either a jean look or the dress, because together they just do not work.

This Marc by Marc Jacobs dress itself is hideous. The bow and the embroidered skirt are too cutesy for a woman her age.

The hair is just blah and her eye make-up is too heavy for a dress this colour.

Tried Too Hard To Be Edgy Award
What a screaming hot mess.

At last years Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Rihanna was so beautiful in her Gucci dress and freshly cropped hair. This year she opted for a pink and black polka-dot bustier from H&M and Stella McCartney jeans, studded cuffs, mint nails and hot pink lipstick.

I am not exaggerating when I say that I hate this look. There is not one redeeming quality about this look to me, and I love Rihanna, so this hurts.

Worst Re-Run/Worst Pose Award
Ashlee Simpson wore this BCBG Max Azria’s Spring 2008 dress to the MTV Music Awards last year. I was not crazy about it then, and I am not so crazy to see it on A.J. Michalka again now.

Worst Back/De Ja Vu Award
For some reason I feel like I have seen this all before on Hayden Panettiere.

The strap across her back cheapens the Leila Azhar dress, as it looks like a bra strap.

Her shoes are black sequined Christian Louboutin Very Prive pumps.

Best Dressed For The Mall Award
Tracey Edmonds really did not make an effort.

Worst Over 30 Award
Jodie Foster tried too hard to be down with the kids.

Played It Too Safe Award
Miranda Cosgrove could have pushed the envelope a little. Too safe = too boring, which is surprising considering she is wearing 3.1 Philip Lim Resort 2008. Her shoes are Marc Jacobs.
