Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Halle Berry attended the ‘Cloud Atlas’ premiere during the Toronto Film Festival over the weekend.

The actress took a style risk in a Roberto Cavalli trouser suit from the designer’s Fall 2012 collection for the showing.

While Halle looked her ever-beautiful self on the red carpet, the same can’t be said for her outfit. Yes, trousers suits are de rigueur right now, but this one is not working for me.

The jacket is well-cut and might be OK if style with something else.

The pants, on the other hand, look dated and the pattern on the sheer Monique Lhuillier blouse is too busy when clashed against the purple print. And, Halle, do we really need to be seeing your bra?

Summer is here and with it comes a more relaxed get-up-go approach to hair.

So it looks like we’re waving goodbye to the ironed-flat Brazilian Blow-out and relaxers and saying “Hello curls”, or in Halle’s words, “This is what you call wash-and-wear beach hair. It’s ready to go!”

Singers Brandy Norwood and Solange Knowles have also gone for grown-out bouncy curls recently, but whether your ringlets are real or have been given a helping hand with a curling iron or hair extensions, the secret is a great conditioner according to stylist Oscar James, whose clients include Tyra Banks, Vanessa Williams, Halle Berry, Iman and Beyonce.

‘It’s paramount that you start with deep conditioner always,’ he says. ‘Deep conditioning means healthy hair.’

* Here are Oscar’s tips for a great head of curls:

* Shampoo the hair, give it a great conditioner and use heat on it.

* Then rinse and blow it dry. I don’t really use a product before blowing out because when you put heat on a product, hair tends to look oily.

* Use a quarter-size iron to curl all around in no real pattern, and curl it haphazardly to get free-form curls in all directions.

* Finish with a holding spray and a little pomade to give shine and texture and help the curls stay where you put them.

Halle Berry looked resplendent on the red carpet for the 32nd Anniversary Carousel of Hope Gala in this gorgeous YSL Pre-Fall 2010 dress.

The raspberry-red asymmetrical gown gathers in the back to form beautiful layers of cascading fabric.

Halle accessorized with a grey and gold YSL box clutch, hooped diamond earrings and an oversized opalescent ring.

Her look was completed with her trademark pixie hair teased at the roots and flawless makeup.

Jennifer Garner won our votes for BDOTW when she wore the same dress in navy to attend the BAFTA Brits To Watch event last month.

The actress looked incredible, going for an understated look that spoke volumes.

Jennifer accessorized with beautiful David Webb earrings, a silver YSL metal box clutch and nude platform heels, finishing off her look with soft wavy hair and pretty light pink lipstick.

This one is incredibly hard to pick a winner. Both women look dazzling in their looks.

I prefer the fit on Halle, so she wins for me.

Halle Berry and Mariska Hargitay attended the Mayor’s Fund Benefit Dinner To Support The Family Justice at the Red Rooster Restaurant in New York City this week.

The actresses opted for very different looks.

Halle broke out of her formulaic cleavage bearing LBD mode, to wear a Z Spoke by Zac Posen Resort 2011 dress.

Her ink houndstooth stretch wool cap sleeve dress was paired with some conservative black Bally pumps.

Mariska look was far more interesting to me despite the fact that we’ve seen this Vera Wang Spring 2011 floral print a few times on the red carpet.

Her two-piece floral look was paired with Jimmy Choo heels and a grey clutch which feels like an odd choice.

Halle Berry was also honored at the 2011 FiFi Awards in New York City tonight.

She took home the ‘Celebrity Fragrance of the Year Award’ for her portfolio of Coty-backed scents which includes ‘Halle by Halle Berry’, ‘Halle Pure Orchid’ and her newest scent ‘Reveal’.

The actress revealed plenty on the red carpet wearing a Halston cut-out dress from the Spring 2011 collection.

Halle never met a LBD she didn’t like.

On this occasion her dress has super sexy cut-outs.

Many of us wouldn’t dare wear this dress, but then most of us don’t have her slammin’ body unfortunately.

Black isn’t boring on this occasion, especially when Halle has made the cut-out which is accented with gold tone hardware even wider than it appeared on the model.

Gold earrings, a black clutch and black strappy Christian Louboutin ‘Anna’ sandals completed her look.
