Anne Hathaway In Ralph Lauren – 2015 Met Gala

Anne Hathaway In Ralph Lauren - 2015 Met Gala

Anne Hathaway made a major statement as she walked the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala in New York City tonight (May 4).

Love her or leave her, Anne has an uncanny ability to get people talking (remember when she debuted her platinum pixie at the 2013 event?), and her custom Ralph Lauren gold lamé hooded cap sleeve column evening dress is surely no exception.

While the statement might not be as in-your-face as some of the extravagant headpieces walking the carpet tonight, the hood is definitely giving us some major editorial rhetoric, and I absolutely love what it’s saying. Understated, but daring.

An ear full of diamond cuffs and simple makeup complete the streamlined, chic look, and the only thing I’d change is that gold clutch. I’m not a fan of the mismatched golds, and really think the look would have benefitted from another option.

Lizzy Caplan In Donna Karan Atelier – 2015 Met Gala

Lizzy Caplan In Donna Karan Atelier - 2015 Met Gala

Lizzy Caplan was one of the first stars to hit the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City tonight (May 4).

In keeping with the night’s ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ theme, Lizzy wore a Donna Karan Atelier gown with beading, fringe and appliqué detailing.

The pink champagne color of the gown is gorgeous, and I love how the beading and fringe allude to the theme without getting campy. Her Edie Parker box clutch, beaded earrings and ruby cocktail ring are stunning details.

I appreciate the monochromatic elements here–the manicure, the clutch and the gown–but I’m also really glad to see the matte red lip, which, in addition to the high bun, really elevate the complete look to an amazing level.

Jennifer Lawrence In Christian Dior Couture – 2015 Met Gala

Jennifer Lawrence attended the 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

As she’s serving as the co-host, I had high hopes for her sartorial selection. But sadly they weren’t quite fulfilled.

It will come as no surprise that she is wearing Christian Dior, this time a Spring 2015 Couture gown modified from the runway. Nor will many be shocked that this designer number falls more into the underwhelming category, especially for an evening such as this.

While some elements of the dress are promising, including the mod, Asian-inspired floral embellishment that traces down the back of the gown, I cannot get past the contrasting bib-like addition at the neckline.

Remove the distraction of the bib; swap the pink lip for a richer red hue; and add a statement pair of exquisite earrings; and we may have had ourselves a marginally better look.

Diane Kruger In Chanel Couture – 2015 Met Gala

Diane Kruger In Chanel Couture - 2015 Met Gala

Diane Kruger was one of the first spotted at the 2015 Met Gala, themed ‘China: Through the Looking Glass,’ and hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

On an evening where sweeping gowns are to be expected at every turn, the actress took a delightful detour by donning a Chanel Spring 2011 Couture ensemble accessorized by Chanel Fine Jewelry.

Radiating with a delicately luminous quality, there was a sense of fantasy and grace to the embellished bustier top, floaty chiffon sash, and sparkling leggings that provided a softer approach to the Asian theme.

Any other occasion would have left me questioning the red Judith Leiber clutch. But the colour was obviously chosen for its relevance to the evening and it was beautifully reflected in her lip, with a flower in her sideswept ’do completing the look.

Gong Li In Roberto Cavalli – 2015 Met Gala

Gong Li attended the ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala on Monday (May 4) in New York City as one of the co-hosts of the night.

She totally nailed the theme wearing a cheongsam-inspired Roberto Cavalli velvet lace gown with intricate lace embroidery which infused a sensual allure into the look.

If you are having a mild case of déjà vu, that maybe because of Taylor Swift’s Roberto Cavalli Atelier gown which also had the party at the back.

Ruth Wilson In Erdem – 2014 Met Gala

Ruth Wilson In Erdem - 2014 Met Gala

Ruth Wilson was the one person I was looking out for at the 2014 Met Gala after it was announced she was attending with designer Erdem Moralioglu.

The pictures of the British actress finally hit Getty this morning and I’m sure you will agree it was worth the wait.

Her richly textured black gown was perfectly in tune with her style: darkly decadent with a touch of drama.

As you can see, the look is a bespoke version of Look 30 from the Fall 2014 collection, retaining the draped tulle overlay, ruby crystallized accents and draped detail from the hip.

The addition of the opera gloves, slicked-back hair and ruby lip enhanced the drama tenfold.

2014 Met Gala Menswear Roundup

Met Gala Men 1The dress code at the 2014 Met Ball, themed ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ was “white tie,” which meant the guys were on their best glam behavior—at least most of them. Tuxes were spotted at every turn among the handsome hunks on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 5). It takes a lot of sartorial strength to stand up to the rush of bustling, bold gowns that punctuate the evening, but let’s hear it for the men who made it work.

David Beckham: This hot topic was hotter than ever in a crisp, cool Ralph Lauren Black Label white shawl collar tuxedo jacket, black bow tie and black tuxedo pant. This is the way to rock formal wear, without a hit of fussiness. Swooning yet?

Douglas Booth
: The British actor took a regally traditional route, but put a refreshingly modern spin on his head-to-toe Burberry outing. He was positively dashing in a black tailcoat and dress trousers, worn with a white waistcoat, wing collar bib-front shirt, white bow tie and black loafers.

Andrew Garfield
: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ star looked sharp in silver, dressed in a Band of Outsiders metallic blazer with contrasting black shawl collar, paired with a white shirt, black bow tie and black tuxedo trousers. I love the touch of metal here.
