Met Gala 2013

Here is a roundup of the rest of the ladies who took to the red carpet for the 2013 Met Gala on Monday evening. Models @ The Met post will follow.

Brooklyn Decker: The actress wore a custom Peter Pilotto look inspired by the Spring 2013 collection. While the look is custom I feel like I have seen this look several times before, so there is nothing fresh or new about it, unlike other custom looks as showcased by Karolina Kurkova and several others. Her Sergio Rossi ‘Hypnos’ sandals, however, are a work of art.

Alicia Keys: The singer took to the red carpet wearing a custom Jason Wu gown. Her black leather and bordeaux sequin embroidered halter gown is beautiful, but I wish Alicia had pushed the punk vibe with the styling a bit more; the red streaks in her hair aren’t enough for me, especially when we know Alicia isn’t afraid of taking a fashion risk. Robert Lee Morris jewels and a vintage clutch completed her look.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: The actress wore a beautiful custom Calvin Klein scarlet gown for the occasion which was punked up as far as she would go with a studded choker and a Tod’s black studded clutch with a gold frame. While I do love this look, I wish Maggie had gone bra shopping before this event.

Dolce & Gabbana's 5th Avenue Boutique Opening

The Dolce & Gabbana 5th Avenue Boutique Opening took place on Saturday evening in New York City, where Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana enjoyed a night of traditional Italian hospitality and mingled around the space of the new store, which spans three floors.

Giovanna Battaglia: The fashion editor stood out wearing a stunning red satin fit-and-flare dress with a lace overlay, which she styled with red embellished shoes. She was by far my favourite of the night. I love how she captures the essence of a brand without the theatrics.

Paloma Faith: Speaking of theatrics, the British singer went all out in a full Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 look, with the only solid piece of her look being her belt. I do love the fact that she’s not afraid of colour, prints and standing out in a room of black lace dresses. This Dolce & Gabbana look featuring a ‘Trio’ of Knight’ dress might not go down too well, but I love her boldness. You may remember that Zhang Zilin wore this same dress earlier this year.

Bianca Brandolini D’Adda: We usually associate Dolce & Gabbana with black lace dresses, but Giovanna and Bianca embraced red lace on this occasion. The socialite donned a bell-sleeved mini dress with a black overlay, styling her look with a black Dolce & Gabbana ponyskin clutch and red embellished sandals.

Chanel Tribeca Film Festival Artists Dinner

Chanel hosted a dinner party to celebrate the Tribeca Film Festival artists in New York City yesterday evening.

Alexa Chung: The TV presenter was of course at the event, wearing a charming beige tweed Chanel Spring 2013 dress with pearl buttons. Her styling was to be expected, with a Chanel quilted bag and dual-colour beige-and-black Chanel Mary Jane pumps.

Shala Monroque: The Prada/Miu Miu devotee clearly didn’t read the invite. The fashion editor opted to wear a Miu Miu nude embellished dress from the Spring 2010 collection, which she accented with a large beetle brooch. You may remember that Kerry Washington’s Golden Globe dress was inspired by this collection. I am usually a big fan of Shala’s style, but the heavy blazer, floral-accented Jesus sandals and blue bag are not working for me at all.

Kiernan Shipka: Out on a school night for the third night in a row, the young ‘Mad Man’ actress wore a denim dress with chequered trims from the Spring 2013 collection. Black booties and a hot-pink Chanel bag keeps this look youthful.

amfAR New York Gala 1

Many more stars joined Sarah Jessica Parker and Alexa Chung on the red carpet last night for the amfAR New York Gala to kick off Fall 2013 Fashion Week.

Heidi Klum: No surprises that the Project Runway host wore a Michael Kors gown. Her black jersey halter gown with crystal embroidery was styled with a white-and-black diamond necklace and a matching ring by her favourite jeweller, Lorraine Schwartz. Sleek locks and kohl-rimmed eyes completed her look.

Crystal Renn: The model was wearing… you guessed it – Zac Posen. Her bold red gown with a floor-sweeping skirt was styled with Lorraine Schwartz ruby earrings and a retro updo. As predictable as this look is, for Crystal it never gets old.

Here are six more looks from the celebration of Chanel Fine Jewelry’s 80th anniversary of the ‘Bijoux De Diamants’ collection, created by Gabrielle Chanel, in New York City yesterday evening.

January Jones: After knocking it out of the fashion ballpark at the Emmys, I’m deeply disappointed by January on this occasion. Between the ghostly makeup, low bandeau and the off-white maxi skirt, the best way to sum up this Chanel Fall 2008 Couture look would be “a hot mess”.

Leigh Lezark: It was left to the DJ and FROWer to bring some glamour to proceedings. Leigh looked stunning wearing a black net Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 gown with PVC embroidery which was styled with a matching bolero with a high neckline. A Perspex clutch, a simple updo and barely there makeup save for kohl-rimmed eyes completed her look.

Giovanna Battaglia: The editor gives me a dilemma. Do I look at the shoes or her Chanel Resort 2013 dress first? Because both are screaming for my attention.
