Lena Dunham In Giambattista Valli Couture – 2014 Met Gala

Lena Dunham In Giambattista Valli Couture - 2014 Met Gala

Lena Dunham was at the 2014 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 5).

The ‘Girls’ actress, who is always a bit of a red-carpet wild card, wore a Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture high-low design that loosely paid homage to the ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ exhibit with its abbreviated ball-skirt silhouette.

Even though it was strapless and a mullet dress, she wore it quite well.

The black frock, which was festooned with blue and pink floral embroidery, was the main attraction here, as she did little to clutter the effect. Minimal jewels, barely-there makeup and plain black pumps all worked in her favour on this occasion.

For someone I place more often in the ‘miss’ category, this look I actually found to be more of a ‘hit’. Would you agree?

Lily Allen In Chanel Couture – 2014 Met Gala

Lily Allen In Chanel Couture - 2014 Met Gala

Lily Allen attended the 2014 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 5).

Working many shades of grey, she turned to the Chanel archives in a Fall 2012 Couture gown, which was embellished by ballet-pink accents via bows at the shoulders and ribbon panels.

Sparkle came in the form of Chanel Fine Jewelry pieces, and dynamic nail art brought some sass appeal.

So, too, did her dramatic, overly exaggerated cat-eye and her sculpted, jet-black hair, which was piled high atop her head, perhaps in an effort to bring in more vintage-inspired flair.

Reese Witherspoon In Stella McCartney – 2014 Met Gala

Reese Witherspoon stunned at the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The blonde beauty went with a Stella McCartney strapless pink gown. The neckline was almost heart-shaped with a twist and the dress continued down in a statuesque form ending in a slight soft train.

But the Hollywood glamour did not stop there. She complemented the dress with a simplistic bangle on her forearm and stunning diamond earrings. Her soft curls framed her face and her makeup consisted of cateyes and matching pink lips. Absolute perfection.

Not only was this another of my favorite looks of the night but, was anyone else excited to see the Oscar winner wear pink? Just like her ‘Legally Blonde’ days, but better!

Selena Gomez In Diane von Furstenberg – 2014 Met Gala

Selena Gomez struck a sleek silhouette on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The singer and actress wore a sleek custom Diane von Furstenberg gown, which she accented with dramatic Lorraine Schwartz earrings and cocktail ring.

There is something to be said for being 21, and that something is the body of a 21-year-old. The beautiful, body-hugging fabric on this dress is anything but forgiving, but Selena looks like a total knock-out.

Lashes for days, a bright berry lip and a chic in the front, intricate in the back updo complete this killer ensemble.

What say you? Are you as much of a fan of this look on Selena as I am?

Emma Stone In Thakoon – 2014 Met Gala

Emma Stone In Thakoon - 2014 Met Gala

Emma Stone was captivating at the 2014 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 5).

Coming off her recent chic streak for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ promotions, the actress continued to impress in her custom Thakoon two-piece pink and magenta, colour-block gown.

The body-skimming, tailored edge of the cropped halter top with a crisscross back was beautifully juxtaposed with the flowing wrap skirt which trailed loosely behind her.

She accessorized with a complementary Tod’s metallic and magenta box clutch, barely the hint of jewels and a chunky side braid.

While it had nothing in common with the rush of ball gowns that were seen on the red carpet, I cannot help but love this effortless and contemporary style that was eye-catchingly notable purely by its simplicity.

Zoe Kravitz In Topshop – 2014 Met Gala

Zoe Kravitz rocked the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The ‘Divergent’ actress wore a custom Topshop dress in a deep red. A low cleavage and a high slit in the front added to the racy coolness of this look.

She complemented the gown with a black clutch and sandals plus stacked bangles, rings on every finger and of course, her tattoos. Kravitz rounded up her look with dark nails and smokey eyes.

Now, this is what I’m talking about when I say I love seeing stars’ personalities come through! She nailed it. This is who she is and she looks edgy without trying too hard.

Hayden Panettiere In Dennis Basso – 2014 Met Gala

Hayden Panettiere looked delighted to be a part of the red carpet fashion parade at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The actress wore a water-colored inspired Dennis Basso gown from the designer’s Spring 2014 collection.

While such a voluminous gown could have overpowered the pint-sized star, Hayden pulls this dress off beautifully.

The colors and print are refreshing and ladylike, and the slightly messy updo and fresh makeup look fresh and young.

Solange Knowles In 3.1 Phillip Lim – 2014 Met Gala

Solange Knowles In 3.1 Phillip Lim - 2014 Met Gala

I barely recognized Solange Knowles at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The songstress exchanged her signature ‘fro for a choppy, short bob, which caught my eye even before her 3.1 Phillip Lim custom dress did.

Continuing to ban her former love of prints in favour of a new affinity for bold, solid colours, she wore the orange sherbet-hued frock with 3.1 Phillip Lim sandals and edgier Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Although she worked this shorter frock instead of a gown, the loosely draped and ruffled dress still retained some element of vintage glamour, all spiked with a mod twist—mostly thanks to that new ’do.

Anya Hindmarch clutch completed her look.
