Ciara In J. Mendel – 2013 American Music Awards

Ciara In J. Mendel – 2013 American Music Awards

Ciara looked every bit the R&B starlet on the red carpet of the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday night.

The singer wore a graphic, peek-a-boo gown from the J. Mendel Spring 2014 collection, which I think is safe to say was made for her.

The graphically patterned dress offers an exciting ‘is it or isn’t it’ continuous flash of skin, and manages to reveal a lot, without actually seeming all that risqué.

Ciara was smart to keep the accessories at the bare minimum and really let this dress sing, and even kept her makeup to the glam minimum.

My one disappointment here is her hair. I was loving her shoulder-length bob, and this shorter version just seems a bit too perky and soccer mom for the star. I look forward to seeing how she styles it for her next public appearance.

Lady Gaga In Versace – 2013 American Music Awards

Lady Gaga In Versace - 2013 American Music AwardsLady Gaga reached deep into her grab-bag of looks at the 2013 American Music Awards, held on Sunday evening at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

In grand Gaga fashion, Mother Monster made another dramatic, head-turning entrance as she arrived on the red carpet sitting atop a white human horse, activated by two people underneath. Perhaps she’s simultaneously channeling a romantic white knight and damsel in distress.

The eccentric ‘Applause’ songstress was just named the face of Versace’s Spring 2014 campaign, so she naturally wore a confection from that collection.

The lavender cutout gown, accented with an armor-like harness of chains and charms, even appears to a manipulated version of the one she’s donning in the Italian fashion house’s ad.

The elephant (or horse) in the room? With her long blonde locks and cheekbone-chiseled bronzer, just call her Donatella Versace 2.0.

Nicole Richie In Emilio Pucci – 2013 American Music Awards

Nicole Richie In Emilio Pucci – 2013 American Music Awards

Nicole Richie looked like a boho goddess on the red carpet of the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday night.

The designer wore a white, cut-out Emilio Pucci gown that showed off her perfectly toned physique beautifully.

I love the fact that even as Nicole has matured and developed a more glamorous sense of style, there is always a hint of her beloved boho in every look.

The gold link collar necklace and earrings give her an almost Cleopatra-esque effect, which the cat-eye and gold eye shadow only accentuate.

The fringed House of Harlow clutch (her own design) seems out of place at first, but it really does cement the boho royalty look she’s got going on.

So tell me, are you as sold on Nicole’s look as I am?

Taylor Swift In Julien Macdonald – 2013 American Music Awards

2013AMA_TaylorSwift

Taylor Swift played the ultimate golden girl on the red carpet of the 2013 American Music Awards, hosted on Sunday evening at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

The five-time nominee gave us the Midas touch in a Julien Macdonald Fall 2013 mini-dress. The itty-bitty party frock featured a nude-illusion lining at the bodice that was added post-runway. It wasn’t as illusive as I’d like. But the waist-cinching belt was still present and accounted for.

The leggy, metallic moment was only magnified with shiny, matching Jimmy Choo ‘Madison’ strappy sandals.

Messy, bedhead waves, a bronze-tinged smokey eye and nude lip, instead of her signature red, added a smoldering note to the full-on sizzle.

Does she prove that all that glitters really is gold?

Emma Roberts In Lanvin – 2013 American Music Awards

Emma Roberts In Lanvin – 2013 American Music Awards

Emma Roberts also attended the 2013 American Music Awards on the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The actress marched to the beat of her own drum in a shimmering Lanvin sack gown that seems to be a hybrid between a boho look and something more glam.

I can predict that this gown will be polarizing for you guys, but I absolutely love that Emma took a risk with her look, and can truly see this as a trend-setting moment.

Pairing a fuchsia Rodo clutch and matching fuchsia Casadei pumps was a stroke of genius, and I love that her chandelier earrings also have a pop of the accent color.

An easy, deep-parted hairstyle, kohl-rimmed eyes and a nude lip completed her easy-glam look.

Ok, here we go: Do you love Emma’s risk, or do you think she’s wearing a shimmery trash bag?

Naya Rivera In Michael Kors – 2013 American Music Awards

Naya Rivera – 2013 American Music Awards

Naya Rivera took another head-turning stroll down the red carpet at the 2013 American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The ‘Glee’ star wore a long-sleeved peek-a-boo Michael Kors gown that manages to both cover up her body and show it off, all at the same time.

Mr. Kors knows how to accent a woman’s body, and Naya certainly has one worth accenting.

I love the touch of the dramatic gold bracelets on top of the sleeves, and her white mani is a nice pop against the black gown.

Naya also debuted a new shorter hair length with layer upon layer of shoulder-length curls along with her nude lip and dramatic eyelashes.

While someone could complain about the amount of bosom on display, I have to say, Naya is known for embracing her sex appeal, and this is the right type of event to go risqué. I’m a fan.

Do you agree? Are you loving the sexy look, or ready to see less of Naya’s assets?

Heidi Klum In Marchesa – 2013 American Music Awards

2013AMA_HeidiKlum

Heidi Klum was also at the 2013 American Music Awards, held on Sunday evening at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

The supermodel and ‘Project Runway’ host’s look may have been more ‘out’ than ‘in’ on this occasion, as she donned a flimsy black Marchesa Spring 2014 number.

The best way I can liken this look is to a bit of sensory overload… the lace, the frou, the sheer, the shredded fringe. It all made the impression that the dress was wearing her and not the other way around. The blunt, eye-grazing bangs and the Lorraine Schwartz collarbone-skimming earrings and smattering of rings weren’t exactly helping matters.

Black Brian Atwood ‘Melly’ peep-toe sandals were certainly the most subdued part of this ensemble that took on more of a costume quality than would be recommended.

Modish or just too much?

Alicia Silverstone In Nicole Miller – 2013 American Music Awards

Alicia Silverstone In Nicole Miller - – 2013 American Music Awards

Alicia Silverstone made an appearance on the red carpet of the 2013 American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The actress wore an art deco-inspired shift dress from the Nicole Miller Pre-Fall 2013 collection.

Alicia doesn’t spend much time on red carpets, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard she was attending the event, but I’m loving her edgy look.

The dress has a fun ease to it that seems to fit the actress’s persona, and the mixed-metal arm stacks, multiple rings and black mani give it plenty of edge.

Her rockstar waves, smokey eye and nude lip were the perfect beauty choices for her effortlessly edgy ensemble.

My only complaint are the shoes, which were way too ‘safe’ and a huge missed opportunity in my opinion.

All-in-all, I’m loving Alicia’s polished-grunge look. Do you agree? Is this making you want to see more of the beloved 90s actress on future red carpets?

Zendaya Coleman In Donna Karan – 2013 American Music Awards

2013AMA_ZendayaColeman

Zendaya Coleman commanded the red carpet at the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday evening at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

The Disney starlet put her own spin on an all-white look from Donna Karan’s Resort 2014 collection, edging up the long and languid, one-shoulder tunic top and white pants with a number of extensions—literally. Let us count the ways.

First she loaded on the silver bangles, along with a serpent arm bracelet, and a few door-knocker cocktail rings for good measure. A Swarovski clutch added even more sparkle.

Then, she strapped on an incarnation of the so-called stripper heels with a towering, silver pair. But the real accessory were her mega-long, board-straight locks that had Rapunzel written all of them.

She’s young; this is fun; and she can get away with it—for now. So why not. Do you agree?
