Maggie Gyllenhaal & Sofia Boutella In Marni – 2017 Met Gala

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sofia Boutella were both in attendance at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Twinning in their own unique way, they each showed off different sides of hyper-embellished Marni creations.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: If I were to pick a favourite, it would be Maggie’s paneled jumpsuit for its delicious vibrancy of candy colours and its bright blue, chain-link-style back, not to mention her bold cherry-red lip.

Sofia Boutella: In comparison, Sofia’s version of oversized, copper-flecked chainmail fell ironically flat yet also overdone, with a few too many necklaces and bangles for its own good.

Which did you prefer?

Janelle Monae In Ralph & Russo Couture – 2017 Met Gala

It was standard style protocol for Janelle Monae at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Not missing a beat from her signature black-and-white colour palette, she donned a Ralph & Russo Couture confection that had her floating across the blue carpet in a cloud-like pouf of tulle.

A neck piece of feathers assured the imaginative look took flight, as well.

Styled with finger cuffs as well as Janelle’s go-to hair jewelry, the gown was nothing out of the ordinary for her. But, if it isn’t broke…

Lupita Nyong’o In Prada – 2017 Met Gala

It’s been a while since we saw Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet, but judging by her Prada gown worn to the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1), it would appear she hasn’t lost that magic touch.

I was very excited not only by the bright coral hue, but also by the organza flowers across the neckline which cascaded down the back adding plenty of flare.

Colour has always been the foundation of Lupita’s style, so if you don’t witness it in the dress, you’re bound to catch some colour in her makeup.

Was the rainbow eye shadow a step too far, or are you loving the creativity of the look?

Gwyneth Paltrow In Calvin Klein By Appointment – 2017 Met Gala

Gwyneth Paltrow kept things simple at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Wearing a Calvin Klein By Appointment dress, she left me feeling rather underwhelmed by this sugary pink design.

Sure, the swirl of the asymmetric neckline was lovely. But, the same cannot be said for her tan lines. Plus, the black pumps stuck out like a sore thumb.

It all was a bit haphazard, as the entire look seemed nothing more than an afterthought.

Halle Berry In Atelier Versace – 2017 Met Gala

Halle Berry attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Sheer genius is what I have to call this Atelier Versace jumpsuit-gown hybrid.

I love the movement of this design, with the gold-flecked dimensional pieces creating a rich, undulating form from the halter neckline to the captivating train. It was the exact right fusion of the avant-garde and the glamorous.

Halle might have healed my see-through fatigue in one fell swoop with this look.

Atelier Swarovski earrings completed the look.

Celine Dion In Atelier Versace – 2017 Met Gala

Celine Dion made her Met Gala debut on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

It’s hard to believe the iconic singer has never graced the Met steps, but there was no evidence of a learning curve when it came to her style.

She mastered the night’s theme in an Atelier Versace Fall 2014 slit-to-there gown that was all well and good, although I do wish she had worn a sandal instead of the platform pumps for a more modern approach.

But what really took the dress to the next level—literally—was her precision-sculpted ’do that made for quite the towering fascinator to top off the look.

Pharrell Williams & Helen Lasichanh In Comme des Garçons – 2017 Met Gala

Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh took to the red carpet together at 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

While they both wore looks from the Comme des Garçons Fall 2017 collection, the two ensembles couldn’t have been more different.

Pharrell didn’t let his co-chair status cramp his laid-back style choices for the night, pairing tattered denim with a flannel shirt and a studded leather moto jacket.

As for Helen, that intense Kawakubo red came out to play again in this puffy variation on a jumpsuit. I can almost hear an Oompa-Loompa calling—he wants his outfit back.
