2015 Met Gala Roundup

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala - Arrivals

A flurry of even more bold names descended on red carpet of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4), where their colourful variety of looks only contributed to this year’s fashion extravaganza.

Anna Wintour
: As the gala co-host, the ‘Vogue’ editor-in-chief dressed thematically (for her, anyway) in a Chanel Spring 2015 Couture gown featuring dimensional, all-over poppy embroidery, which had been lengthened from the runway’s original shorter version. She should have maintained her signature cap sleeve, as the flower petal statement shoulders translated as a bit cumbersome, despite their inherent artistry.

Bee Shaffer: Like her mother, Bee also found inspiration in flowers, opting for a mahogany blossom gown by Alexander McQueen. I much preferred this look to Anna’s, especially with the enchantment of the beautifully embroidered Chinese cranes that alighted down the back of the dress.

Uma Thurman In Atelier Versace – 2015 Met Gala

Uma Thurman attended the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

Her Atelier Versace asymmetrical white v-neck gown, an interpretation of a classic Chinese Hanfu with its wrapped tie waist and robe sleeve, provided an understated yet still effective nod towards the evening’s theme.

Sophisticated and seductive, the sleek dress was all the more admirable in that it portrayed not the hint of try-hard.

Jade green tassel earrings provided another subtle ode to China with glossy Alexandre Birman sandals completing the look.

Fan Bingbing In Christopher Bu – 2015 Met Gala

Fan Bingbing In Chris by Christopher Bu - 2015 Met Gala

Fan Bingbing took an impressive spin down the red carpet of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4)

Wearing a look from one of her favoured go-to designers, Christopher Bu, the Chinese actress was exquisite in a golden-bronze embellished column gown.

Despite the high-octane shine of the dress, the ornately embroidered, jewel-toned cape was the most riveting piece of the ensemble, which she styled perfectly with Chopard jewels and, of course, a Louis Vuitton clutch.

I was mesmerized by her entrance which was dazzlingly impressive enough for the Met while still walking on the right side of the theme and maintaining an aura of richly refined elegance, unlike some of the ensembles we saw last night.

Beyonce Knowles In Givenchy Couture – 2015 Met Gala

Beyonce In Givenchy Couture - 2015 Met Gala

Beyonce Knowles may have arrived fashionably late to the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4), but there was no missing the entertainer as she took to the red carpet.

She left little to the imagination in her custom Givenchy Couture gown. The nude trend has certainly had a moment at the gala, with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian each showing off their naked ambition.

But leave it to Queen Bey to take it to the next level, putting her toned assets on full display in this transparent number with strategically placed, candy-coloured gemstones, all topped off with a power ponytail and perky pink lip.

It’s hard to argue with such a statement when she’s flaunting the look like there’s no tomorrow. But sometimes enough is enough with the overexposure.

Sheer genius, or are you now completely fatigued by the see-through—especially given that she’s already had a Givenchy sheer moment at the 2012 Met Gala?

Miley Cyrus In Alexander Wang – 2015 Met Gala

Miley Cyrus In Alexander Wang - 2015 Met Gala

Miley Cyrus was also on the guest list at the 2015 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

Like Zoë Kravitz, Miley wore an Alexander Wang Fall 2015 black gown that was customized for the occasion. But, with the skin-baring cutouts, I’m finding even less of a thematic Chinese reference here.

In fact, a punk-rock mood was the first thing that came to mind with the all-over silver studs not to mention the singer’s lacquered blue-gray hair and ear cuffs.
