Dramatic Eyes At The Met Gala: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Dramatic Eyes At The Met Gala The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Dramatic eyes were a big trend at last night’s Met Gala, and while some were absolutely stunning, others completely missed the mark. Everyone might not agree with me here, but I really feel that you can do punk and look attractive while doing it. Case in point, these three lovely ladies:

Good:
Hailee Steinfeld’s eyes were total showstoppers last night. Her green and black cat-eyed look was edgy but beautiful, and totally punk-esque.

Another real winner was the always-flawless Diane Kruger. Her silvery gray smokey eyes almost had an ombré effect, with the lightest silver at the inner corners and the darkest at the outer corners. Gorgeous!

And finally, we have Nina Dobrev, who sported an intensely winged upper lid and a silver-lined lower lid. Very high-fashion punk!

Bad:
You have to give Elle Fanning props for having fun, but her winged electric blue and pink eyeshadow is more little girl playing dress-up than fashion’s biggest night.

As for January Jones, her look reads far more alien warrior than punk! The disconnected triangular shape of her liner is quite harsh, and coupled with the grayed out eyebrows, she looks a little creepy.

Ugly:
Ginnifer Goodwin is always a fashion and beauty risk-taker, but this one simply did not pay off. The heavy black shadow from lash to brow, along with the heavily shaded brow may be daring, but it’s also unfortunate. The only place this look belongs is on a raccoon.

Elle Fanning In Rodarte – 2013 Met Gala

Elle Fanning In Rodarte - 2013 Met Gala

Unlike her sister Dakota, who took a subtle approach to the night’s red carpet, Elle Fanning made quite a style statement at the Met Gala.

While her Rodarte tie-died swirl gown is decidedly more psychedelic than punk, it’s fun and youthful and a great choice for a 15-year-old on a red carpet.

And then there’s her makeup. The over-the-top winged navy and red eye shadow is the perfect match to the gown, and I definitely give her props for having fun with the theme, but is that actually punk? I’m not sure, but once again, you can’t fault a teenager for having a little fun on a night like tonight!

Are you liking Elle’s dramatic look, or is it too left field?

Elle Fanning In Lanvin – 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

Elle Fanning In Lanvin - Glaad Media Awards

Elle Fanning hit the red carpet on Saturday for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, held at the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live.

The up-and-coming starlet once again showed us her mature fashion sense, selecting a Lanvin gown for the occasion.

Even though the wispy layers of this gown and her tiara headband lent a precious princess vibe to the look, I wasn’t quite as enchanted as I could have been.

The nude-blush hue of the dress, offset with the harsh black sash, wasn’t my favourite for Elle, and the colour revealed every rumple and wrinkle in the fabric.

It all actually seemed a bit safe for the young teen who is no stranger to high-concept, ripped-from-the-runway ensembles mixed with a good dose of crazy shoes.

But with her flushed complexion and white-blonde locks, she still managed to look angelic.

Elle Fanning In Rochas – 28th Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuoso Award Ceremony

Elle Fanning In Rochas - 28th Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuoso Award Ceremony

Elle Fanning joined Eddie Redmayne at the 28th Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuoso Award Ceremony held at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, California yesterday.

The teen star wore a Rochas Spring 2013 white brocade belted dress which featured slanted pockets.

Ripping the runway look, Elle also donned the white leather boxing boots but opted out of wearing the sunnies and silk headband.

Many of you went on record to say that Elle has the most undesirable footwear collection to hit the red carpet, so I’m sure you will agree that she’s worn much worse than these leather lace-up boots.

I wanna say I dislike them on principle, but I think they keep the look interesting.

White pumps or those Prada platforms she loves so much would’ve been too predictable.

Elle Fanning In Chanel – 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

Elle Fanning In Chanel - 2013 Critics' Choice Movie AwardsElle Fanning is somewhat of a fashion prodigy, and she showed us why at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, hosted last night at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

This up-and-coming starlet and Best Dressed Teen of 2012 selected head-to-toe Chanel Spring 2013 for her big night, where she was nominated for Best Young Actress in ‘Ginger & Rosa.’

She didn’t win the evening’s trophy, but she continued her style winning streak with the strapless column gown that featured quirky floral appliqués that only she could pull off. Likewise, her crazy and clunky silver platform clogs would normally be a no-go for anyone else, but they worked for her.

Good thing she left the overly dramatic collar choker necklace on the runway, though.

She even had us swooning over her playful pink eyeliner. Of course, her beaming, youthful grin is this girl’s best accoutrement.

Elle always leaves us in awe; we can’t wait to see what she puts on next.
