Get The Look Julia Roberts' 2014 Golden Globes Glamour Updo

Hairstylist Serge Normant created Julia Robert’s stunning sixties-inspired updo for the Golden Globe Awards. Serge emulated a modern take on a classic Sophia Loren look. Here is how to recreate Julia’s Globes glamour look for yourself.

On wet hair spray Serge Normant meta lush volumizer from roots to tips. Then create a side part low enough to give it more edge.

Blow dry your hair with a medium size brush, giving as much lift on the crown as possible.

Add Serge Normant meta revive dry shampoo, especially on the crown and in the back. It will help create texture and volume. Make sure you brush out all residue, if any.

Using a tail comb, tease hair, emphasizing the crown area and below it. Keeping a sixties-like volume on top, pull hair into a ponytail, tease it, spray it with Serge Normant meta luxe hair spray and wrap it on its base to create a bun. Then secure it with hair pins.

Work all the volume in a flattering way, adding more or less volume and pulling pieces here and there to give it a natural and loose touch. Using the Kerastase Initialise give a little separation and pieceiness on the front sweep – the more dramatic the better. Add more hair spray if necessary.

Get The Look: Cate Blanchett’s 2014 Golden Globes Romantic Makeup Look

Cate Blanchett's 2014 Golden Globes Romantic Makeup LookCate Blanchett went with classic black with her Armani gown, though her makeup artist, Jeanine Lobell wanted to stay away from the classic red lip when it came to Cate’s pout.

“We didn’t want to do the expected red lip to go with her gorgeous Armani black gown,” says Jeanine. “So we went the softer route. No harsh lines. Instead, I blended colors for dimension.”
Jeanine made what was essentially custom lip color for Cate. She mixed Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in Scarlatto and Boudoir. Her trick? She first applied Scarlatto (a raspberry rose) then applied Boudoir (a nude rose) directly over it.

Cate’s matte, even-toned look all began with prep work. Jeanine prepped Cate’s skin with the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. Afterwards, she applied the Lancome Translucence Mattifying Silky Press Powder. She layered the Nars Highlighting Blush in Satellite of Love to highlight Cate’s cheekbones, giving her a beautiful flush.

Using the Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Intuition, Jeanine blended the pinky-beige and goldy-beige shades together and dusted them from lid to lash line. She then used the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Emervielle for a hint of colour to add dimension without the need for liner. Countless coats of Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Custome Volume mascara were used to really make Cate’s lashes pop.

To complete Cate’s look, Jeanine used the Nars Brow Shader and Brow Gel to create a defined, but not-too-harsh brow.

Nail Trend Spotting: 2014 Golden Globes Moody Darks

Nail Trend Spotting 2014 Golden Globes Moody Darks

Dark polishes made their appearance during the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. And with manicures getting more and more coverage (hello, mani cams), nails are becoming a trend all on their own.

Taylor Schilling donned Essie’s Berry Naughty, a beautiful oxblood shade. Celebrity manicurist, Beth Fricke, wanted a color that would look gorgeous against her dark, kelly-green gown.

Celebrity manicurist Christina Aviles decided on a deep red to stand out against Jessica Chastain’s dark dress. Essie’s Poor Li’l Rich Girl was the perfect shade to complement.

Michelle Saunders, celebrity manicurist for Kate Beckinsale, went with what she thought was a bold choice for the red carpet. “But she pulled it off flawlessly,” says Michelle. The colour?

Essie’s Licorice, which gave off the effect of patent leather–the perfect addition to her metallic gown.

Have you been sporting the dark nail trend? If not, you’ve still a few weeks left before lights and pastels start making their rounds for spring.

Amy Adams’ Valentino Couture Shanghai Look From The Golden Globe Awards

Amy Adams' Valentino Couture Shanghai Look From The Golden Globe Awards

During the 2014 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 12) some of you spotted Amy Adams wearing a cape with her Valentino Couture gown from the Shanghai collection, while others like myself missed it.

After a sweep of the pictures agencies I found this picture, and I think the gown is even more beautiful with the cape.

Perhaps her team had spotted Lupita’s gown and felt two red capes on the red carpet was too much, or perhaps the star simply intended the cape only for carriage, but for me the look is on another level of brilliance with the cape.

Do you agree?

Get The Look: Kate Beckinsale’s 2014 Golden Globes Punk-Inspired Hair Do

Get The Look Kate Beckinsale's 2014 Golden Globes Punk-Inspired Hair Do

Kate Beckinsale brought a gorgeous edge to the Golden Globes – not only in her metallic Zuhair Murad gown, but with her messy side chignon.

What inspired the hair look? “With her wholesome, English rose good looks, Kate can get away with quite a bit of edginess in her hairstyle, so we went with a punk-inspired diva look that’s a bit different from her usual soft flowing waves,” says Sascha Breuer, celebrity hair stylist.

Sascha started by spraying Moroccanoil Root Boost directly onto her damp roots, which quickly adds body, movement, and flexible hold. He used a skeleton brush at first while blow drying, but switched between the brush and his fingers to add texture and more volume. Once her hair was 100% dry, he separated the crown and clipped the top section away.

Focusing on the bottom section, he secured it into a low, side ponytail with an elastic, then coiled it into a bun. He made sure to keep the look imperfect and tugged a few strands out of the bun, causing some tendrils to fall out. He secured with bobby pins then moved back to the top section. Before doing anything, he backcombed the roots with the Moroccanoil Boar Bristle Teasing Brush for bigger volume and a naturally untidy texture. He then secured this section into the existing loose bun with more bobby pins.

Sascha completed Kate’s look with some shine and hold with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. His finishing touch tip? Spritz some hairspray onto your fingertips and fuss over single strands to really define them.

Gwyneth Paltrow In Valentino – 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Gwyneth Paltrow In Valentino - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t take to the red carpet at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday (January 12), but she was spotted inside enjoying the show alongside hubby Chris Martin.

The actress, who had attended Diane von Furstenberg’s Journey of a Dress Exhibition the day before, wore a Valentino Pre-Fall 2014 mini dress for the occasion.

Her look, featuring a shapeless aqua-and-gold brocade dress, limp hair and Valentino suede platform ankle-strap pumps, isn’t as glamorous as I wish it had been.

It all screams ‘I just couldn’t be bothered’ and makes her look rather frumpy.

Louise Roe In Monique Lhuillier – 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Louise Roe In Monique Lhuillier - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Louise Roe gave use a double dose of Monique Lhuillier Spring gowns for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, which took place on Sunday (January 12) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.

Golden Globe Awards: For the main event the TV presenter wore a pretty coral-hued long-sleeved crepe-and-Chantilly-lace Spring 2014 gown styled with side-swept wavy tresses and bedazzling accessories, including a Marchesa clutch, Chopard jewels and Jimmy Choo sandals.

Golden Globe After-Parties: Later that same evening Louise swapped one stunning Monique Lhuillier look for another, this time selecting a striking multi-coloured strapless Spring 2013 gown, keeping the same hairstyle but changing her diamond jewels for gold.

Of the two, the after-party gown is the grandstand gown and would’ve worked better for me for the main event. Do you agree?

2014 Golden Globe Awards Menswear Roundup

Golden Globes Men 1Flexing their sartorial strength, the guys glammed up for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held last night (January 12) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Here, an overview of the handsome highlights.

Matthew McConaughey: The big victor in the best actor category, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star was every bit a winner on the red carpet, too. His Dolce & Gabbana three-piece tuxedo featured a surprising emerald-green velvet blazer with contrasting black peak lapels, adding a swoon-worthy twist on the standard. His touch of scruff, meanwhile, was his way of putting a casual-cool spin on this formal entrance. His wife, Camila Alves, also shone rather brightly in a glittery, black Dolce & Gabbana gown that flaunted her enviable curves.

Chris Pine: Rocking the full beard, the actor embraced the classics with an impeccably tailored Ermenegildo Zegna Couture black, peak grosgrain lapel tuxedo, white dress shirt, and black bow tie. He finished the look with Tod’s black patent loafers and a David Yurman gold pinky ring.
