Renee Zellweger In Prada – 2013 Met Gala

The first thing I said to myself upon seeing Renee Zellweger on the red carpet at the 2013 Met Gala was “where’s the train?”

We had several magic moments of Renee taking to the stairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a spectacular gown with a flowing train.

On this occasion she wore a Prada knee-length frock from the Fall 2013 collection.

Her chocolate-brown long-sleeved dress enriched with crystals, paillettes and glass-beaded embroidery features a layered detail which falls from the hip.

As brown dresses go, this one isn’t too bad; what most impresses me here is the improved styling from the runway plus Renee’s hair and makeup – words I haven’t said in relation to Renee in a loooong while.

Her sophisticated non-punk look was styled with black satin pumps.

Uma Thurman In Zac Posen – 2013 Met Gala

This is one look where I don’t care if the punk theme applies. Uma Thurman looked breathtaking, giving us pure Hollywood glamour at the 2013 Met Gala on Monday in New York City.

The actress was, of course, wearing a Zac Posen gown; his workmanship is evident in the hourglass silhouette, floor-sweeping train and intricate detailing.

Her Efva Attling ‘Paparazzi’ ring, which makes a powerful statement, is the only punk element to her look – thankfully – as I want to drink in this regal excellence without any theatrics.

Chloe Sevigny In Proenza Schouler – 2013 Met Gala

The one person who I thought would’ve nailed the punk theme for Monday night’s 2013 Met Gala was Chloe Sevigny.

She proved me wrong.

The style maven, who’s known to take a fashion risk or two (didn’t she once have a punk phase?), opted for a long-sleeved Proenza Schouler Fall 2013 gown.

While this is a great look, it feels so wrong for the occasion and let’s face it, it’s a lazy effort.

The most punk rock thing about this look is the slashed detail.

And I’m over the Met Gala turban; been there and preferred that when Kate Moss and Karolina Kurkova rocked it.

Zooey Deschanel In Tommy Hilfiger – 2013 Met Gala

When up for nearly 24 hours straight, you tend to look out for those you recognize when coming to the end of blogging an epic event like the Met Gala.

This is why I missed Zooey Deschanel. The ‘New Girl’ actress was totally unrecognizable.

She didn’t wear a mohawk or sport super-thick eyebrows a la Ginnifer Goodwin (thankfully) for this punk-themed event: quite the opposite. She was the picture of elegance in her Tommy Hilfiger one-shouldered striped gown.

We are so used to the same hair and makeup from Zooey that her simple styling, lighter lip colour, and low side-swept bun sans bangs have transformed her into a totally different woman.

An Edie Parker safety-pin clutch and Forevermark jewels completed her look.

Are you as stunned by this transformation as I am?

Paloma Faith In Michael Cinco – 2013 Met Gala

The only person to find the perfect blend of punk and drama was of course Paloma Faith, who took to the red carpet on Monday evening for the 2013 Met Gala in New York City.

Like Kylie Minogue, I was surprised the Dolce devotee didn’t opt for the Italian duo for her red carpet look; instead she worked a stunning Michael Cinco blood-red-and-black sequined gown featuring built-in gloves.

From the back you can see her bird tattoos via the sheer panel. Even as one who isn’t a fan of tattoos, I would’ve preferred the back to be open as I find the sheer panel bothersome.

Paloma’s dress is outstanding; however, her styling sells this look to me.

An architectural headpiece, bold red lips, a beautiful bouffant, sculpted brows and cat eyes completed her look.

I know many of you don’t understand my fascination with this woman, but she ALWAYS delivers on the red carpet.

There is never a dull moment when she is around.

Kim Kardashian Givenchy – 2013 Met Gala

I know this is one post you weren’t expecting to see, but I was so horrified at how bad Kim Kardashian looked at the 2013 Met Gala on Monday evening that I was compelled to write something.

Anna Wintour lifted her bar on the reality TV star from last year’s Met Gala to allow her to walk proudly with her baby daddy Kanye West on the red carpet on Monday evening.
As you know, Anna has final approval on the looks, so this could be her having the last laugh.

I mean, really, this floral Givenchy Fall 2013 blossom gown is not only horrendous but it is doing nothing for her and I have seen it from every angle.

We have complained that some didn’t try hard enough last night, but Kim tried too hard. Her desperation was oozing from her every pore.

Aside from the side slit, I think the high-neck, built-in-glove gown made her look frumpy. Just when I thought she was getting to grips with her maternity style, which she was fighting against for so long, this goes and happens.

Stéphane Rolland would’ve made her a far more flattering gown.
