Zoe Saldana In Michael Kors – 2014 Met Gala

Zoe Saldana In Michael Kors - 2014 Met Gala

Zoe Saldana was on the arm of designer Michael Kors at the 2014 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City this evening (May 5).

Naturally, the actress was in Michael Kors, a custom confection consisting of a simple black cashmere halter bodysuit and, the main attraction, a pouf-y, black floral lace and optic-white taffeta sculpted skirt.

The sartorial sculpture continues again here, as can be expected with this year’s Met exhibit of styles by iconic American designer, Charles James.

A black python clutch, a few bangles and rather minimal makeup and loosely fixed locks completed the effect.

At first, I thought the look demanded more—as in a brighter lip or more daring hair. But now that I reflect on it, the more relaxed styling made this bustling look more current, without a hint of try-hard.

Dita von Teese In Zac Posen - 2014 Met Gala

Dita von Teese strikes a pose on the red carpet of the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The burlesque star wore a Zac Posen creation and was accompanied by the designer himself.

I liked how Dita’s Roger Vivier clutch, lipstick and the dramatic red detail at the hem of the pale pink mermaid gown tied the look together.

This ensemble definitely suits Dita and fits in nicely at the event. What do you think?

Hailee Steinfeld In Prabal Gurung – 2014 Met Gala

Hailee Steinfeld In Prabal Gurung - 2014 Met Gala

Hailee Steinfeld was positively beaming at the 2014 Met Gala, themed ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City today (May 5).

Of course, the young starlet and burgeoning trendsetter had every reason to smile at one of New York fashion’s biggest nights.

Outfitted in Prabal Gurung, she followed the glamorous dress code of the evening in a masterfully sculpted creation—a riff on the high-low trend, complete with a sweeping train—also wearing black and white like co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker.

Smartly extravagant in its shapely, molded ball-gown shape, the design also received a dose of modern edge via the monochromatic, colour-blocked palette and racer-back silhouette.

A low, centre-parted bun and sparkling Van Cleef & Arpels floral earrings brought the classic elegance right back into play, though.

Karolina Kurkova In Marchesa - 2014 Met Gala

Karolina Kurkova is something out of a dream on the red carpet of the 2014 Met Gala in New York City on Monday (May 5).

The supermodel wore a Marchesa Spring 2011 gown in a deep teal hue with a painterly floral print. The dramatic shape and cut of the dress are a work of art and is perfectly accented with incredible Harry Winston diamonds.

The gorgeous Karolina kept her hair and makeup very simple to let her stunning ensemble do the talking.

This is just the kind of unique yet glamorous look that an event like this calls for. I think she looks simply breathtaking, do you?

Victoria Beckham In Victoria Beckham – 2014 Met Gala

Victoria Beckham In Victoria Beckham - 2014 Met Gala

Victoria Beckham strikes her signature pose on the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala in New York City on Monday (May 5).

Wearing a white strapless self-designed gown, the look has an all too familiar silhouette.

The Met Gala would’ve been a great chance for Victoria to step out of her comfort-zone.

A ball-gown or trouser suit with a ball-skirt would’ve been welcome changes, however, there so no faulting that this is an amazing look.

Emmy Rossum In Carolina Herrera - 2014 Met Gala

Emmy Rossum took to the red carpet of the 2014 Met Gala with a grand flourish, as she posed at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 5).

Donning a sculptural, strapless Carolina Herrera yellow ball gown, exploding in a colourful, nearly clashing floral print, she put her own stamp on the ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ theme.

Lavish statement Van Cleef & Arpels jewels included a diamond flower ring whilst her complementary rose-tinged earrings matched her matte crimson lip and red manicure, tying the florid look together.

Vintage-inspired, her twisted, slicked-back ’do was also an homage to Mr. James.

Bold and beautiful… after all, the Met Ball is not a time for shrinking violets.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In Balmain – 2014 Met Gala

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In Balmain - 2014 Met Gala

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks fierce on the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala in New York City on Monday (May 5).

The model wore daring Balmain Fall 2014 from head to toe.

The wild combination of leopard print, leather and gold was pulled together with dramatic hoop earrings, sleek straight hair, very classic makeup and nude nails.

Although this look was one of my ultimate favorites from the fall 2014 collections, I just can’t get behind the choice to wear it to the gala. There is no denying that Rosie looks phenomenal, but I don’t think this ensemble was appropriate for the event. What are your thoughts?

Rachel McAdams looks elegant on the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The actress wore a sleek strapless Ralph Lauren Fall 2014 gown in a seasonally appropriate shade of blush pink.

Her effortless loose curls, rosy lips and subtle smoky eye complemented the classic silhouette of the dress.

This look is certainly proof that less can be more. However, I wouldn’t have minded a few eye-catching accessories to add a little glamour for such a grand night out. Do you agree?
