Chloe Grace Moretz In Coach – 2015 Met Gala

Chloe Grace Moretz In Coach - 2015 Met Gala

Chloe Grace Moretz also hit the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City tonight (May 4).

The young actress wore a short, sleeveless Coach dress and Coach wristlet with some fun and well-placed jewels, including a Monique Péan bracelet.

Does Chloe look fantastic? Absolutely. Are her shoes fabulous and is the satin-ribbon-turned choker totally fun and youthful? 100%. But is this dress anywhere close to special enough for this event? I hate to say it, but no way.

I am totally into her ultra sleek and ultra long ponytail (perhaps the only thing Chinese-inspired about the look) and flawlessly glowing makeup.

Seriously, any other night, this would be a completely different story, but for tonight, it just isn’t enough for me.

Lady Gaga In Balenciaga – 2015 Met Gala

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala
Lady Gaga swept onto the red carpet of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

The entertainer is never one to turn down an opportunity to stand out or to embrace a good costume, and this was no exception.

Completely embodying an Eastern vibe in her custom Balenciaga design, she went the way of the kimono in the colossal, floor-length coatdress that was woven through with black feathers.

Worn over sparkling leggings with her signature, massive platforms, the capacious coat thankfully often hid the silliness of the shoes.

Adorned with Fred Leighton jewels, slightly geisha-inspired makeup, and a black crown atop her jet-black hair, the look was bold, ostentatious, and theatrical—and I fully appreciated it for exactly those reasons.

Katy Perry In Moschino – 2015 Met Gala

Katy Perry In Moschino - 2015 Met Gala

Katy Perry came to make at statement at the 2015 Met Gala in New York City tonight (May 4).

Wearing a Moschino gown that is surprisingly straight off the Fall 2015 runway and a spray paint can-inspired purse, Katy is definitely on theme, but that theme is all her own.

This is definitely the event to go over-the-top, but unfortunately, instead of going for that highly editorialized moment tastefully, Katy’s look is just a mess. The graffiti gloves, the various ruffles, the heavy fabric, the whole thing feels like a losing Project Runway look to me.

I do absolutely love Katy’s pixie cut, however, and really hope she keeps her hair short for a while, because it’s a fabulous and fun change-of-pace for her.

Emma Roberts In Ralph Lauren – 2015 Met Gala

Emma Roberts In Ralph Lauren - 2015 Met Gala

Emma Roberts turned heads on the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala in New York City tonight (May 4).

Her bright green satin custom Ralph Lauren gown is accented with a Ralph Lauren clutch and Monique Péan earrings.

The (fabulous) color and fabric of the dress (not to mention the dragon clutch) keep this look Chinese-inspired enough, and Emma is looking just so effortlessly poised and polished that I just love the look.

A sleek-but-undone updo and flawless makeup (those lashes) are really helping give Emma a total moment here, and she’s moved into a whole new zone of fashion star in my book after tonight.

Rose Byrne In Calvin Klein Collection – 2015 Met Gala

Rose Byrne In Calvin Klein Collection - 2015 Met Gala

Rose Byrne went editorial for her turn on the 2015 Met Gala red carpet tonight (May 4) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The actress was dressed by Calvin Klein, and wore an intricate custom gown that offers quite a few double-take moments.

I love a dress that offers a surprise once you see it upclose, and this one offers about 10. What appeared to me to be florals and lace from afar, turned out to be leather with circular cut-outs and beads–and I can honestly say I’ve never seen a dress like this before.

A windblown bob and shimmering pink eyeshadow and lips are a fun pairing with the dress, and I love that there is a lot of joy in each aspect of the look.

Zendaya In Fausto Puglisi – 2015 Met Gala

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala - Arrivals

Zendaya was a welcome addition to the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

Bringing a youthful sense of whimsical fun to the proceedings, the starlet fully captivated in her Fausto Puglisi number, emblazoned with a bold sun motif that artfully took into account the evening’s Chinese theme.

The voluminous shaping and fanciful flair of the skirt was perfectly suited to any event with ‘Through the Looking Glass’ in its name.

Her signature edgy sense of style was also captured in her wrist and arm cuffs and tiara-like headpiece, where the sharp sunbeam shapes were likewise repeated.

With this wonderland of a look, Zendaya gives us a lesson in how to dress for the Met Gala.
