Australia Day Black Tie Gala, New York

Mother-to-be Jessica Alba covers her growing bump in this black Gucci Spring 2008 one-shouldered gown with a yellow lining.

I am not a fan of Jessica Alba, but she does look so beautiful here. Her pregnancy has her glowing.

Santa Barbara Film Festival – Modern Master Tribute to Cate Blanchett, Santa Barbara

From one beautiful mother-to-be to another.

Cate Blanchett was honoured at this event wearing a emerald green Hervé Leroux empire waisted dress which accentuates her baby bump.

I love this colour on Cate. It is perfect for her skin-tone.

60th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, LA

Tilda Swinton embraces the transparent Spring 2008 trend. She is wearing an ensemble from the Jil Sander Spring 2008 collection.

I would try to work this look myself, but for some reason it works on Tilda.

Helen Hunt wore this beautiful ombre Kevan Hall embellished gown.

You don’t see Helen on the red carpet much, but when you do she always gets it right.

Vanessa Williams chose this fabulous colour for her skin-tone with this canary yellow shift dress.

Black again for Ellen Page.

Love the jacket though.

I am not sure what to say about this dress on Marion Cotillard, other than it being black and quite dull.

NRJ Music Awards 2008, France

The photographers at this event were more interested in photographing the back of Rihanna’s dress, so I have no clear photos of the front unfortunately.

Rihanna has updated her look again with this cute crop and sweeping bangs. I expect hairdressers all over the world will be inundated with requests for this cut.

Kylie Minogue was the muse for Dolce & Gabbana. You could always assume that whatever she wore, at whatever event, it was Dolce & Gabbana.

This is NOT Dolce & Gabbana, this is a hot mess. What is that black thing going across the skirt?

Whoever is dressing Kylie these days is not doing her any justice.

Kylie, go hug it out with Domenico and Stefano, and get back to your best.

Vanessa Paradis is wearing a silver sequined shift dress with a nude underly.

This would have been perfect had she not worn the chocolate leather trousers.

Maybe on an ordinary day I would not even have noticed Olivia Newton-John’s dress. But since Cate Blanchett wore the same dress 14 months ago, she has no chance of going unnoticed, even with that thick white woolen coat.

Cate Blanchett first shimmered in a liquid-gold Ralph Lauren shirt dress back in November 2006 for the LA premiere of Babel.

She teamed her stunning dress with a gold clutch.

Olivia Newton-John wore her dress on Saturday to the GDay USA Australia.com black tie gala in LA.

She wore a white coat over her dress, wore strappy sandals and carried a clutch.

Cate Blanchett not only wears Giorgio Armani on the red carpet often, she also wears Giorgio designs in many photo shoots. She wore his designs in the Australian Harper’s Bazaar and now for this photo shoot with French magazine Madame Figaro.

She is wearing an Armani Privé Fall 2007 suit. I love the hat, I wish she had worn it for this shoot.

She also wears this Giorgio Armani Fall 2007 one shouldered dress, which you may recognize as Alicia Keys wore it on the red carpet to the “Black Ball” in New York back in October.

Here is an extract from her interview.
After seeing you so at ease in your Armani wardrobe, one could easily take you for a fashion icon…
Some designers make me exhilarated – those who know how to transcend fashion and go beyond. I think of course about Giorgio Armani, to whom I am faithful since the beginning.

Beside, to me, Armani has very plainly become an adjective to qualify excellence. I also love the dialogue that can occur between an actress and a couturier. Younger, though, I did not have any particular link with fashion, contrary to my sister Genevieve who was beautiful and had worked as a model before becoming an architect. I looked up to her with admiration.

But you are considered a beauty
I have never been beautiful, but I am an actress of composition. My face has plainness to it, hence it is changeable. In the past people would often stop me in the street: “Were we not in school together?”, “You look just like my cousin”. Beauty is of very little importance to me, and I don’t mind appearing far from conventionally seductive if the role calls for it. The most beautiful compliment one can make me is to tell me I have an ‘actress mug’. But I hope my definite asset is my mind.

Despite what she says, she is beautiful to me. I ♥ her.

The nominations for the Golden Globes were announced today and I am already excitedly thinking about what we will see on the red carpet next year.

In the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama category Cate Blanchett was nominated for ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’ and Best Supporting Actress for ‘I’m Not There’.

Only one designer comes to mind and that is Giorgio Armani. I would have predicted Armani Prive, but as Cate will be 6 months pregnant at the time awards, she may have something especially made.

Angelina Jolie was also nominated for Best Actress in a Drama for ‘A Mighty Heart’.

I would predict that she would wear St John, as she is still the face of the brand. I would hope that she tries something new on this occasion, as the grey St. John’s dress she wore to this years Golden Globes, although beautifully made, was not to my liking.

Keira Knightley was nominated in the Best Drama category for ‘Atonement’.

Chanel seems the obvious choice as she is the face for Coco Mademoiselle, or will she choose Rodarte? She seems to be favouring their designs recently.

In the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture category, Amy Adams was nominated for ‘Enchanted’.

Amy took a lot of inspiration from the films fairytale theme for her red carpet appearance in LA, but looked a lot sexier for the London premiere.

What will she choose on the day?

In the Best Actress in a Comedy category America Ferrera is nominated for Ugly Betty.

America always wears Monique Lhuillier for the big occasions. Will she wear Monique’s designs at the 2008 Golden Globes?

Helena Bonham Carter was nominated in the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for ‘Sweeney Todd’.

I love Helena’s determination to break the mould, and try something out of the ordinary, but she usually takes it too far and ends up on most worst dressed lists.

Will the 2008 Golden Globes be any different?

For the answer to all these questions and to see what all the stars are wearing check back on 13 January for my red carpet round up.

This is something you do not see often, magazines with the same dress on the cover.

Cate Blanchett appears on the December cover of the Australian Harper’s Bazaar wearing a Giorgio Armani Fall 2007 dress.

Vogue Nippon had the same idea to dress model Snejana Onopka in Giorgio Armani on their January 2008 cover.

Does Cate look sensational or is Snejana fabulous?

Giorgio Armani Fall 2007

Giorgio Armani Fall 2007

Giorgio Armani Fall 2007

Cate Blanchett graces the cover of Harper’s Baazar Australia for December. As you can see the shoot was only featuring creations by Giorgio Armani.

On Giorgio Armani: “…the thought of being associated with Giorgio Armani, the man; the artist; the icon. I mean, he’s an adjective, you know what I mean?”

Giorgio Armani has 3 words for Cate, “Bella, intelligente, sensibile”. AGREED, Agreed, agreed. That is why I love her.

Giorgio Armani first dressed Cate for the 2005 BATFA Awards and their working relationship/friendship as developed. I truly believe he designs with Cate in mind as his collection is perfectly in tuned with her style and sensibilities. I wonder if he will make a maternity collection for the now pregnant Cate.

Roberto Cavalli Fall 2007

Alexander McQueen Fall 2007

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2007

November’s UK Harper’s Baazar was a more varied wardrobe shoot. I particularly like the Givenchy dress, although I do love the cover in Roberto Cavalli. I think this is one of the best covers of the year.
