Carmen Ejogo In Balmain – BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’

Carmen Ejogo In Balmain - BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!

Carmen Ejogo was also in attendance at BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ special at NJ Performing Arts Center on Saturday (March 28) in Newark, New Jersey.

In keeping with what appears to be a black and white color theme of the evening, the ‘Selma’ star was onstage in a Balmain glittery mini with graphic, grid appeal, paired with chunky, block-heeled sandals that also enforced a retro spirit.

Putting a softer edge on all those squares, she wore her hair in voluminous curls and painted on a bold red lip.

It seems she may have skipped the red carpet before the event, but this little number certainly deserved plenty of time in the spotlight.

Carmen Ejogo In Houghton – 2015 Oscars

Carmen Ejogo In Houghton - 2015 Oscars

Carmen Ejogo attended the 2015 Oscars, hosted at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (February 22) in Hollywood, California.

Fresh from yesterday’s 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards, the actress channeled an old Hollywood glam vibe in her Houghton white, sparkling sequin gown.

A Chopard choker added to the retro aesthetic of the look, as did her flapper-inspired pin curls and a saturated, magenta-red lip.

While I understand the languid, loose silhouette, the gown fell a bit long on her lovely figure. As is, she appears to be wading amidst the shimmering fabric.

Carmen Ejogo In Roksanda – 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards

Carmen Ejogo In Roksanda - 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards_

Carmen Ejogo attended the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday (February 21), held at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California.

The ‘Selma’ actress and nominee skipped a dress in favour of a Roksanda Pre-Fall 2015 jumpsuit—and you won’t find me complaining.

With the designer’s familiar colour-blocking, the black ensemble benefited from the cheerful pastel hues that ran vertically across the top.

A burnt-orange, beaded Rodo clutch and black heels, along with a a new blunt-bang, ponytail updo and a bright red lip, completed this punchy, chic look.

8th Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon Red Carpet Roundup

8th Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon Red Carpet Roundup

Here is a roundup of some of the other looks from the 8th annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel on Thursday (February 19) in Beverly Hills, California. Sadly it doesn’t include Lupita Nyong’o, who wore Peter Pilotto ‘Hendrix’ dress but decided to skip the red carpet.

Teyonah Parris: The ‘Mad Men’ actress is one person you can never miss on a red carpet. She may not be wearing a fabulous gown, but here she hits us with a bright emerald hue and modern suiting design by Kimberly Goldson. Factor in that studded clutch and lace pumps and we have yet another winning look from the actress.

Chanel Iman: As we know, Chanel loves a gown even more than Teyonah does, so even though this was a luncheon I was still shocked she didn’t stick to the tried and true. The model wore a sporty striped Jonathan Simkhai Pre-Fall 2015 racer dress styled with braided Brian Atwood ‘Olive’ sandals and a Rodo clutch.

Samira Wiley: Forgoing the ladies-who-lunch frock, the ‘Orange Is The New Black’ actress served up her own style of luncheon loveliness wearing an Azede Jean-Pierre Spring 2015 crop top and trousers featuring decorative embroidery.

Alfre Woodard’s Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree

Alfre Woodard's Oscar's Sistahs Soiree
Many stars attended Alfre Woodard’s Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree by White Diamond Lustre, Elizabeth Taylor at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Wednesday (February 18) in Beverly Hills, California, where they showed off a range of different dress codes at the event—from casual to cocktail snazzy.

Kerry Washington
: The ‘Scandal’ actress brought a touch of spring to the soiree in her Sophia Kah look featuring a floral skirt with contrast paneling. I love the mix of the watercolour-inspired print with the bolder edge of the midnight-blue top and burnt-orange colour-blocked hem. Elegant waves and an oxblood lip balanced the look.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw
: The star’s bright smile brought vibrancy to this riff on the LBD. The Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2015 dress with embroidered neckline and sheer chiffon detailing was effortlessly chic, with Kwiat jewels elevating the look with a subtle sparkle.

Zoe Saldana: Looking radiant in ruffles, Zoe worked this deep blue Lanvin dress to her advantage. The black belting added the bit of figure-defining structure that the design required, with a spirited punch courtesy of the contrast dotted Kurt Geiger ‘Bond’ pumps and her beautiful red lip.

Who Wore Self-Portrait Better…Carmen Ejogo or Priyanka Chopra?

Who Wore Self-Portrait Better Carmen Ejogo or Priyanka Chopra

Carmen Ejogo was the first to wear this Self-Portrait white sheer panelled dress to the 2015 InStyle And Warner Bros. 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards Post-Party last month, styling her look with a pair of hypnotic blue pumps to complement the embellished neckline.

Opting to wear the dress without the blue collar, Priyanka Chopra wore the same frock to the Roc Nation Grammy Brunch earlier this month, styling the simpler look with white pumps.

While one can admire Priyanka for making the look her own, the touches of blue make this look stand out from being just another LWD with sheer elements, so Carmen wins for me.
