Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Here we have two of my favourite Asian actresses wearing my favourite designer; this is going to be tough.

The graceful Fan Bingbing attended the 2012 Trophée Chopard Party held during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival back in May wearing a stunning Elie Saab forest-green fully embellished gown with a plunging neckline.

Appeasing the host, she enriched her glorious gown with emerald Chopard jewels adding a black Ferragamo clutch with a high bun and coral lip colour completing her look.

On Sunday, Carina Lau joined Andy Lau on the red carpet for the 2012 Miss Hong Kong Pageant wearing the same dress.

Unlike Fan Bingbing, Lau opted for a contrasting blue Swarovski choker and a glossy red lip colour.

While I like Carina’s bold attempt to shake up this look with the jewels, I prefer Fan Bingbing’s matchy matchy approach to this look.

Carina Lau also took to the red carpet at the 48th Golden Horse Awards in Hsinchu, Taiwan, on Saturday night.

The actress, who likes to have fun on the red carpet, opted for an Atelier Versace Spring 2012 gown.

Her tiered grey ombre one-shoulder gown was once again teamed with jewellery which overpowers her look. I see the necklace before the gown.

I have never been a fan of necklaces, or in this case a choker, being worn with an asymmetrical dress. The imbalance throws me off.

Besides the overwhelming jewels, Carina isn’t really selling this gown to me.

The drama and intensity of this look didn’t translated onto the red carpet.

Carina Lau always appears to be having fun with fashion on the red carpet.

The Asian actress attended the Tianjin Wanda Mansion opening ceremony in China on Sunday evening wearing a Lanvin floral print dress from the Fall 2011 collection.

Her black and white floral print dress ticks all the right boxes: fun, flirty and fabulous.

Carina offset the fully pleated skirt and cuffs by adding black Christian Louboutin Figurina suede ankle boots and a sleek metallic silver bag.

She swept her hair back to keep the focus on this exquisite dress and applied minimal makeup to complete her look.

Yesterday in Hong Kong, Valentino presented their Fall 2011 collection at The Landmark, Central.

Creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli made their debut appearance in Hong Kong at this much-anticipated fashion event which was attended by our favourite Asian stars.

Fan Bing Bing was of course at the show looking gorgeous – as always – wearing a Valentino Spring 2011 gown.

Her nude gown with a black sheer overlay is accented with black and white floral appliqués and polka dots.

The actress accessorized with a nude thin belt and a Valentino floral appliqué satin clutch.

I love her long wavy hair swept to one side and her red pout.

This will be the second time Fan Bing Bing has seen this Valentino Fall 2011 show, because she also saw it the first time around in Paris.

Carina Lau was also at the show.

She opted for a red Valentino ruffle gown which was also from the Spring 2011 collection.

This striking red ruffled gown has layers of silk-chiffon and satin. It perfectly encapsulates the label’s romantic aesthetic and was the stand-out look from the Spring 2011 collection.

Alexa Chung wore this same gown when she was presenting live at the Golden Globe Awards.

‘American Idol’ judge Jennifer Lopez first wore this sexy Gucci colour-block dress to the UNICEF ‘Women Of Compassion’ Luncheon back in February.

The gorgeous singer kept her look sleek and sultry, taking cues from the runway presentation with slicked back hair and strappy heels. She accessorized with some stunning gold hoop earrings and bracelets, complementing the striking belt. I love the colors against her olive skin tone and how she didn’t overwhelm the dress with too many accoutrements.

Asian actress Carina Lau wore the same dress to the Longchamp flagship store opening in Hong Kong last week, in which Kate Moss was in attendance.

I think the dress looks lovely on her petite frame, but I’m not the biggest fan of how she styled the rest of the outfit.

The neon pink ‘Gatsby’ Longchamp clutch adds a bold pop of colour, but for me is the wrong shade for this dress.

The patent pumps are such an eyesore – they’re way too heavy and completely spoil the overall look. On closer inspection, Lau is wearing green diamond drop earrings and matching ring with a Christmas red shade of nail polish. It all feels a little too much.

My vote is definitely going to Jennifer Lopez. The dress seems like it was made for her body as it drapes beautifully over her famous curves and she accessorized the look perfectly.

The Lanvin for H&M collection has been hugely popular and this is best represented by these 4 celebrities who loved the collection as much as we did.

I know many of you have accused celebs of being greedy by wearing this collection designed for us mere mortals who can’t afford the mainline collection, but I appreciate the tips on how to possibly style this dress.

Maggie Cheung was the first to wear this Lanvin for H&M eggplant one-shoulder gazar dress with black elastic waistband when she attended a Hong Kong Audi press conference.

She paired her dress with Lanvin for H&M leather gloves, black kitten heels and a poodle perm.

Carina Lau wore the same dress to the Cartier Flagship Store Opening in Hong Kong last month.

The well-dressed actress showed off a new hair cut at this event, as she teamed her pink Lanvin for H&M dress with Roger Vivier pumps and a silver clutch.

Natalie Portman looked sultry in her eggplant Lanvin for H&M dress when she attended the IFP’s 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City on Monday.

I really liked her Dior jeweled clutch and hot red lips.

Finally yesterday, Janice Man wore the pretty pink version to the launch of a cosmetic brand in Hong Kong.

As beautiful as she looks she lets herself down with horrible suede black pumps and thick black tights.

Maggie also let herself down by over accessorizing this dress with the necklace and the gloves.

I wasn’t initially crazy about Carina’s Roger Vivier heels, but I prefer them over Natalie’s black pumps so Carina wins this for me.
