IFP, Calvin Klein Collection & Euphoria Calvin Klein Celebrate Women In Film

The IFP, Calvin Klein Collection & Euphoria Calvin Klein celebrated Women In Film during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival yesterday evening. All the attendees were of course decked out in Calvin Klein.

Nicole Kidman: The actress, who has been on fire so far this festival, wore a leather dress from the Fall 2013 collection with Jimmy Choo ‘Balma’ pumps and Fred Leighton jewels. The most interesting feature of this look is the cut-out details in the skirt. Sadly, they’re not highlighted in this picture.

Carey Mulligan: Also opting for black, the actress styled her simple strapless Calvin Klein LBD with her favourite Brian Atwood ‘Aida’ sandals.

Naomie Harris: The beautiful actress showed off her toned figures wearing an ecru halter dress from the Resort 2013 collection featuring cut-out details at the waist. As always, her styling was impeccable.

Rooney Mara: In Rooney’s early days, when she sported long wavy brunette locks, her go-to dress was always nude. It appears that, even though she now tends to favour black or white, she still can’t resist a nude frock. Her last nude dress left her looking washed out and ghostly; however, this look is the perfect hue to complement her skin tone.

Carey Mulligan In Christian Dior Couture - ‘The Great Gatsby’ Premiere & Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony

Carey Mulligan, the star of ‘The Great Gatsby’, finally took her place on the red carpet this evening for the Cannes Film Festival premiere.

The British star surprised me by finally applying a touch of lippie, in a bold red hue. She also surprised me with the length of her hair. I had assumed it was much shorter; however, she has been concealing the length in a bun and updos for the last few red carpet appearances.

I’m guessing she had to apply the red lip colour in order to prevent her being washed out by her blush matte satin duchesse Dior Couture gown.

The fit and the streamline silhouette leave me in awe. As you know, I’m more likely to get excited by a bling gown on the red carpet, but this minimalist gown hits another fashion home run for the talented actress.

Tiffany jewels completed her look.

Carey Mulligan In Balenciaga - 'The Great Gatsby' Cannes Film Festival Photocall

Carey Mulligan kicked off Cannes Film Festival this afternoon by attending a photocall for ‘The Great Gatsby’ at Palais des Festivals in France.

The British actress wore her second Balenciaga by Alexander Wang Fall 2013 look in a row following the Met Gala.

On this occasion she wore a very chic black jumpsuit featuring a circular beaded bodice with a bow accent, which she styled with Saint Laurent t-bar pumps.

Yes, she’s sticking to this minimalist approach to red carpet dressing for now, but maybe she’ll pull out all the stops for the premiere, which opens the festival officially this evening.

Makeup-wise, I see a touch more lip colour and kohl-rimmed eyes, which is more makeup than she’s worn in a while.

A simple chignon completed her look.

What are your expectations for Carey this evening?

Do you think the likes of Fan Bingbing outshine her at the premiere?

Carey Mulligan joined a host of other bold names, as she stunned on the 2013 Met Gala red carpet at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

‘The Great Gatsby’ actress interpreted the evening’s punk theme with an impressively smart flourish in her black Balenciaga dress that riffed on the style era’s obsession with safety pins.

The angular, cutout design was neither look-at-me or louche. But the oversized gold pin at the neck still spoke volumes.

Was it an homage to the uber-famous Versace safety-pin dress donned by Elizabeth Hurley in the ’90s? Perhaps.

Regardless, I have to say I love this tongue-in-cheek variation that’s simultaneously classic and cool-girl, amidst a sea of overwrought edge at tonight’s ball.

Carey slicked back her deeply side-parted blonde locks and wore a nude lip to complete this refined look.

Call it sophisticated, new-age punk.

Carey Mulligan In Lanvin - 'The Great Gatsby' Pre-Met Ball Special Screening

Carey Mulligan took to the red carpet at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Sunday evening for the Pre-Met Ball screening of ‘The Great Gatsby’.

Her Lanvin Spring 2013 tuxedo consisted of tapered pants and a cropped tuxedo jacket with satin detailing, contrasting white lapels and puffed shoulders.

I love the modern twist within this classic look.

Carey styled her look with her favourite black satin Brian Atwood ‘Aida’ platform sandals – which she has worn three times in a row now – a simple updo and minimal makeup, which continues to be her red carpet M.O.

Carey Mulligan's Makeup - No Makeup 'The Great Gatsby' Fresh Faced Look

Despite the fact that her ‘The Great Gatsby’ character, Daisy Buchanan, is known for dramatic 20s beauty looks such as bold berry lipstick, smokey eyes and dazzlingly adorned hairbands and wraps, actress Carey Mulligan has been opting for a much more subtle approach to beauty during the press tour for the movie thus far.

Her makeup was so subtle at the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Ball and the Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada ‘The Great Gatsby’ Dresses Opening Exhibit–matte skin, a simple coat of mascara, no eyeshadow and a subtly glossed natural lip–that the barely there approach she took at the film’s world premiere in New York yesterday, almost looks bold! Almost. Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell gave Carey a slightly darker brow, a berry lip and lined her eyes a bit more heavily, all while staying well within the realm of ‘barely there’.

I think it was smart for Carey and Georgie to develop these subtle looks for the Gatsby tour, since the film has such an over-the-top opulence to it that anything dramatic could have come across quite costumey. Also, on the heels of Carey’s stunning but heavily made-up Vogue cover shoot, the subtle approach is a good change of pace for Carey.

Something tells me that Carey might continue these super subtle looks and then pull out all the stops at Cannes, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

To get Carey’s Gatsby World Premiere look, line your top lid only directly in the lashline with a soft pencil like Tarte EmphasEYES High Definition Eye Pencil in Brown.

Add slight contouring to your lids with warm brown tones like those in Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Rosy Tan. Then, define your brows with Bobbi Brown’s Light Brow Kit for a strong, but natural effect, and finally, give your lips a subtle, matte hint of color with a matte pencil like NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Walkyrie.
