2013 BAFTA Awards Menswear Round Up

Keeping it classic with black tuxedos and bow ties was prevalent on the red carpet at the EE British Academy Film Awards in London on Sunday. But a handful of biggest stars took a chance with navy colours and velvet fabrics. The risks paid off – for the most part.

Ben Affleck: In addition to taking home the award for Best Director, Bendefinitely took home the award for best male grooming. That dark beard looked amazing with his Gucci Made-to-Order midnight blue velvet Marseille tuxedo. His tux displayed two buttons and notch lapels. Along with his tux, Ben wore a skinny collared white shirt, a matching flat tie in a four-in-hand knot, and black leather lace ups.

Bradley Cooper: Everything below the neck looked incredible on the star of ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ Wearing a Ferragamo midnight navy three-piece tux with black satin peak lapels, Bradley looked every bit the part of a Best Actor nominee. He even paired it with a bow tie that he needs to straighten out. Unfortunately, it looks like the rain got to him and his hair looks a bit sloppy, considering he’s wearing a tux.

Chris Tucker: If there was one man on the red carpet that ruined his look with the little things, it was Chris Tucker. The navy colour looks great, but he went from looking like a stud to looking like a stooge thanks to his accents. Chris is great, funny actor, but it takes a specific type of confidence and power to pull off lapels that wide – Chris doesn’t have it. And that droopy, oversized bow tie isn’t helping matters.

2013 SAG Awards Menswear Round Up

With gowns galore parading down awards-gala red carpets, it’s always hard to focus on the tuxes—no matter how handsome they and their inhabitants are. But at the 2013 SAG Awards, hosted last night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, the men had their moment. Like many of the girls, some of the guys played with color—albeit to mixed success. But it all made for a far more entertaining and colorful show.

Eddie Redmayne: The ‘Les Miserables’ star continues to deliver great red-carpet performances. The British actor carried off a slimly tailored tuxedo by BOSS Black, rendered in a luxe brown, crushed velvet. He paired it with a white shirt and matching dress shoes from the label. In a sea of black and blue, this delicious chocolate color was a smooth statement—so was Eddie’s cool-boy coif.

Bradley Cooper: The ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ actor and nominee chose Tom Ford for his big night. The midnight navy color of his single-breasted tux, featuring a black satin shawl collar, reminded me of some of the similarly colored gowns seen last night, such as the one from Jennifer Lawrence. I wish his black bow tie didn’t appear crooked, throwing the polish of this look awry.

Cory Monteith: This ‘Glee’ cutie stepped outside the norm with his Calvin Klein tuxedo paired with a sleek set of black Christian Louboutin loafers. His cufflinks and tie bar were by Ox and Bull Trading Co. and his timepiece from Versace. The exaggerated peak lapel in black contrasted sharply with the light heather grey of the single-breasted jacket. But was Cory red-carpet-royalty or just prom-king ready?

2013 AFI Awards Menswear Round Up

Eddie Redmayne: The British actor has started the year off really strong. So far, style-wise, he’s leaving his male counterparts in the shade giving us a variety of dapper, slim-fit suits. Continuing to fly the flag for British fashion abroad, he wore a Topshop green-and-navy fleck suit styled with a chocolate-brown shirt, olive cardigan and red pocket square. This has to be one of my favourite looks from Eddie so far. I love the mix of colours and the flame-red pocket square was a perfect touch.

Ben Affleck: While Eddie was stepping out of the box, Ben was very much staying in it keeping his look simple wearing a navy suit with a white shirt and blue tie. I would’ve expected him to wear black shoes, but he opted for brown on this occasion.

Bradley Cooper: Dressed in a grey gingham Gucci suit sans tie, I’m not feeling the black shoes with his light coloured suit.

2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Menswear Round Up

Awards shows are always a women’s world, but at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, hosted at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, the boys really kept up with the girls, sauntering out plenty of enticingly formal, albeit rather similar, exits.

Eddie Redmayne: The British actor thrilled us in a trendsetting tan suit just one day earlier at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards, and his Acne tuxedo was equally great—in a completely different way. Glossy satin lapels on the plush jacket plus a thin tie and white pocket square were perfection at its finest. Eddie continues to earn his place among our ‘Les Miserables’ Best Ensemble Cast of 2012.

Matthew McConaughey: The ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor put his strikingly thin silhouette into the slim lines of Dolce & Gabbana’s incredibly sleek tux. He looked altogether dapper, especially with his bow tie, although I think we’re all eager to see Matthew back to his buff ways.

Cory Monteith: The ‘Glee’ cutie took Marc Jacobs for a spin and succeeded in A-plus form with his traditional black suit and tie paired with a white button-down.

Ben Affleck In Gucci – 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

Ben Affleck joined many stars on the red carpet at the Palm Springs Convention Center for the 24th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in California on Friday.

Dressed in a sleek black Gucci suit featuring glossy satin accents along the lapels and pockets, the ‘Argo’ actor pulled the look together with a classic bowtie.

I think Ben may have just missed the mark here. The pants bunch around the ankle and fit a little too low on the waist.

He did score a homerun, however, with his grooming. I love his slightly salted beard and his loose comb-over hairstyle.

Ben Affleck In Gucci – ‘Argo’ London Film Festival Premiere

Taking back the spotlight from his gorgeous wife Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck was front and centre on the red carpet for the ‘Argo’ London Film Festival yesterday evening.

The actor/director looked incredibly handsome dressed in a suit by Gucci.

I love the navy-and-pink tie he wore with his navy notch lapel two-button Signoria suit.

His suit was styled with a white dress shirt, and brown accessories including a leather belt and leather lace-up shoes.
