Fan Bingbing In Christopher Bu – 2015 Met Gala

Fan Bingbing In Chris by Christopher Bu - 2015 Met Gala

Fan Bingbing took an impressive spin down the red carpet of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4)

Wearing a look from one of her favoured go-to designers, Christopher Bu, the Chinese actress was exquisite in a golden-bronze embellished column gown.

Despite the high-octane shine of the dress, the ornately embroidered, jewel-toned cape was the most riveting piece of the ensemble, which she styled perfectly with Chopard jewels and, of course, a Louis Vuitton clutch.

I was mesmerized by her entrance which was dazzlingly impressive enough for the Met while still walking on the right side of the theme and maintaining an aura of richly refined elegance, unlike some of the ensembles we saw last night.

Beyonce Knowles In Givenchy Couture – 2015 Met Gala

Beyonce In Givenchy Couture - 2015 Met Gala

Beyonce Knowles may have arrived fashionably late to the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4), but there was no missing the entertainer as she took to the red carpet.

She left little to the imagination in her custom Givenchy Couture gown. The nude trend has certainly had a moment at the gala, with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian each showing off their naked ambition.

But leave it to Queen Bey to take it to the next level, putting her toned assets on full display in this transparent number with strategically placed, candy-coloured gemstones, all topped off with a power ponytail and perky pink lip.

It’s hard to argue with such a statement when she’s flaunting the look like there’s no tomorrow. But sometimes enough is enough with the overexposure.

Sheer genius, or are you now completely fatigued by the see-through—especially given that she’s already had a Givenchy sheer moment at the 2012 Met Gala?

Miley Cyrus In Alexander Wang – 2015 Met Gala

Miley Cyrus was also on the guest list at the 2015 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

Like Zoë Kravitz, Miley wore an Alexander Wang Fall 2015 black gown that was customized for the occasion. But, with the skin-baring cutouts, I’m finding even less of a thematic Chinese reference here.

In fact, a punk-rock mood was the first thing that came to mind with the all-over silver studs not to mention the singer’s lacquered blue-gray hair and ear cuffs.

Rihanna In Guo Pei Couture – 2015 Met Gala

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala - Arrivals

Rihanna shut down the red carpet at the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

We can always count on the songstress to wake us from any sartorial-fueled slumber with her no-holds-barred style. And she delivered in true form here, donning an elaborate couture number by Chinese designer Guo Pei.

Intricately embroidered and edged in fur, the cape-style coat extended nearly the entire length of the first set of those iconic stairs for maximum impact. At times, the top half of her hot-pink bodysuit peered over the edge of the fur for a hint of edgy allure.

But the real story here was the majestic regality of the coat, which was only magnified with her metallic, floral-shaped headpiece and gold choker necklace. She completed the look with Christian Louboutin ‘Toerless Muse’ pumps.

Love it or hate it, it’s audacious looks such as this that truly embody the essence of Met Gala fashion.

Zhang Ziyi In Carolina Herrera – 2015 Met Gala

Zhang Ziyi In Carolina Herrera - 2015 Met Gala

Zhang Ziyi attended the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4) with designer Carolina Herrera at her side.

Gracefully encompassing the evening’s theme, the Chinese actress stunned in a custom Carolina Herrera cream gown with a high collared neckline and delicate floral embellishment.

I love this look for its classic elegance infused with a modern sculptural quality and dimensional embroidery.

The bracelet and dark handbag felt unnecessary, with a tonal cream bag providing less of a distracting contrast to the artistry of the dress.

Sofia Vergara In Marchesa – 2015 Met Gala

Sofia Vergara also made her way around the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

Not even a magnifying glass could help locate any measure of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ theme in the ‘Modern Family’ actress’s ballet-pink Marchesa strapless confection.

This was a Sofia gown through and through with all the trademarks of her signature style. The same goes for her beauty look consisting of long waves and sultry makeup tones.

Ethereal with its angelic chiffon layers and sparkling embellishment, the dress was beautiful yet oh so expected and rather uninspired for this occasion.

Taraji P. Henson In Balenciaga – 2015 Met Gala

Taraji P. Henson In Balenciaga - 2015 Met Gala

Taraji P. Henson attended the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

The ‘Empire’ actress was dressed in a Balenciaga column gown, fully beaded in a black floral motif in homage to the theme.

She styled the dress with Fred Leighton jewels, including a whimsically twisted pair of earrings.

While the look felt safe and was clearly not as intriguing or excessive as some of the other power gowns on the red carpet, it still resonated with the strikingly stark black-and-white contrast and the clear workmanship behind all that beading.
