Best Dressed Award
I was not particular wowed by many on the red carpet tonight, but Freida Pinto definitely stood out in her blue John Galliano Spring 2009 gown.

I loved the one shoulder long sleeve gown with the all lace, beading, embroidery and tulle. It was so pretty.

The gown was perfect for her, as it feels Indian inspired.

She completed her look with a Judith Leiber clutch.

Best Couture Award
OK Sarah Jessica Parker’s Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, did make her look like a fairy princess, but it’s that what we all want to see on the red carpet? Fantasy and Fairy tales?

I love the boost this gown gave her, and I love the embroidered bodice.

The only downside for me was the hair. One of her classic high buns would have looked so great with this dress.

Her jewels were Fred Leighton and her clutch is Ferragamo.

I love how cute her and Matthew Broderick looked so happy on the red carpet.

Back To Her Best Award
Of everyone on the red carpet tonight, I was most worried about Anne Hathaway. Her red carpet style has been underwhelming lately, so I prepared myself for the worst.

I was releived when Anne walked the red carpet wearing this gorgeous ivory Armani Privé Spring 2009 gown that was covered in clear paillettes. The gown moved so perfectly when she walked the red carpet.

Even thought I love the gown, I did prefer it on the runway, without the silver embellished band on the top of the bodice.

Her stunning jewels are by Cartier.

Best Use Of Colour Award
Whilst a lot of actress opted for neutral colours, Natalie Portman opted for this stunning pink Rodarte chiffon strapless gown.

I wasn’t crazy about the make-up, but the gown overall ruled.

Just OK Award
Taraji P. Henson has had a great Awards season, and although I do like this ivory Roberto Cavalli gown on her, I expected a bit more from her.

The Fred Leighton necklace is outstanding, and the Mary Norton red bag, adds some colour, but I feel like this is just OK.

On The Fence Award
Marion Cotillard was my girl crush of last awards season. Since then she seemed to disappear off the face of the earth, and the few appearances she did make left me underwhelmed.

Her Christian Dior Fall 2008 Couture gown has been modified from the runway, but I feel like I love the gown more than her in the gown.

Hard To Pull It Off, But She Did Award
Marisa Tomei didn’t pick an easy gown.

I went back and forth as to whether I liked this one-shouldered Versace Atelier silvery grey satin organza gown.

The final verdict was yes, as I became mesmerized by the pleated details.

Her jewels were Van Cleef & Arpels.

Most Improved Award
It’s not black, or brown, or by Azzedine Alaia, so Penelope Cruz finally earned her place on the Best Dressed list.

She wore a vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture gown. I loved the print on the gown, which looked like lace.

Her jewels are Chopard.

Best Custom Gown
Queen Latifah attended Georges Chakra’s Spring 2009 couture show in Paris recently to work with the designer.

The result was this amazing navy dutchess satin gown with tulle train, and Swarovski crystal embroidery around the neckline and on the hip.

Fit for a Queen.

I Know You Hate It, But I Love It Award
Tilda Swinton is like Marmite. You either love her or hate her.

I personally love her edgy style, despite her disappointing me at the Berlin Film Festival.

After her win last year, the British actress was a presenter last night. I loved her Lanvin Pre-Fall 2009 sand-colored matte silk satin draped blouse, which she wore with an elegant black duchesse satin long evening skirt with gathered detailing.

Golden Girl Award
Viola Davis has been wearing a lot of David Meister lately, so I was surprise when she switched to Reem Acra for her gown last night.

Surprised, but not disappointed because she looked radiant. I’m always mesmerized by her skin, because she glows.

Lady In Red Award
There were 4 red gowns on the red carpet last night, but Virginia Madsen’s Kevan Hall strapless gown was the one I really liked.

I love that origami fold on the front, and her silky silhouette.

Her shoes were Rene Caovilla, her jewels by Loree Rodkin and her clutch was by Katherine Baumann.

Most Classic Award
Meryl Steep was stunning wearing an off-the-shoulder Alberta Ferretti gown.

She is glowing.

Her clutch is by Ferragamo.

Best Couple Award
I know I am always macking on Diane Lane and Josh Brolin, but I adore them together.

She also wore a Dolce & Gabbana strapless mermaid gown, but the style was very different from Melissa George’s well worn gown.

Beyonce Will Be Jealous Award
If Beyonce had not been force to wear that House of Dereon Couture gown her mother created, this is the gown she would have wanted to wear, as it’s dripping with bling.

Instead Leslie Mann picked this stunning platinum Pamella Roland Fall 2009 gown, which was one of my favourite gowns presented at New York Fashion Week last week.

I love this awards show, as we get so see more a more eclectic and colourful red carpet.

This year the stars didn’t disappoint. Jessica Alba looked so lovely in a stylish lilac Christian Dior Spring 2009 dress, with tan Christian Louboutin Mary Janes.

Her make-up is light, and compliments her dress.

This look is so feminine, I adore her here.

I really like this navy and red striped Michael Kors dress Cameron Diaz is wearing, but - not for the first time - I really don’t think this suits her.

I think it’s way too conservative for her, as she is usually more playful on the red carpet.

Is this the case of a new boyfriend cramping her style? We have seen this before.

And will she please, oh please get those roots done asap.

Lucy Liu opted for a fuschia pink Lanvin Spring 2009 satin dress.

She wore her dress with a clear belt, as not to block the draping effect on her dress.

The look was complete beige Jimmy Choo heels, and a Roger Vivier clutch that matched her dress.

♥

Claire Danes wore a two tone Lanvin Spring 2009 strapless bustier dress, with a gathered skirt.

She decorated her dress with a nude necklace, which was also from the Lanvin Spring 2009 collection.

This is such a sophisticated look for Claire, although I am not sure about the black heels.

Post-pregnancy Michelle Monaghan, continues to rock my world.

She was one of my favourites at this event wearing a Versace Spring 2009 baby blue mini dress, with a bell-shaped skirt, and jeweled strappy sandals.

I expected to see more of this collection on the red carpet other than 3 pieces - January Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow & Michelle - we have seen.

Kerry Washington looks absolutely outstanding in this electric blue Marchesa dress, with an embellished neckline. Although like Claire, I’m not so sure about her shoe choice.

This is a nice Rodarte Spring 2006 dress, but Anne Hathaway is a young girl, who should be experimenting a lot more.

The whole look is too blah. I’m not excited about it at all.

With her last two looks failing to impress, I’m very scared for what she might bring to the Oscars red carpet.

Taraji P. Henson on the other hand continues to impress.

Her Burberry LBD is decorated with embroidered details on the skirt to give it a tiering effect, and this same detail appears on the top of the dress.

She completes her look with black gladiator Pedro Garcia sandals, and a Burberry Prorsum Fall 2008 necklace.

I’m very excited to see what she wears at the Oscars.

Zooey Deschanel adds a black velvet bow to her Lela Rose Spring 2009 shimmering blue dress, which match her eyes.

Her cute clutch was from Moschino, and her heels are Ferragamo.

Michelle Williams wore a simple simple navy, grey and white striped sheath Chloé Resort 2009 dress, with black pumps.

Padma Lakshmi is so incredibly beautiful.

Last night she wore a Giorgio Sant Angelo jersey dress from Decades Inc, which had a white tile pailette detail cascading down the bodice.

I know many of you are not Teri Hatcher fans, but I think she has been having a lot more good days than bad recently.

Her LBD from Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2009 collection with the sheer panels, is very sophisticated, yet sexy. Plus she doesn’t opt for a predictable black shoe, instead she wore a satin champagne Brian Atwood peep-toe heel.

Her pink clutch is Jimmy Choo and her jewels are by Piaget.

Mena Suvari added a multitude of colour to the red carpet, with this Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2009 maxi dress.

She wore her dress with a larger tan belt, which is thinner than the one which appeared on the runway.

She wore Piaget jewels to complete her look.

This is not the best look for Elizabeth Banks. The skirt is fine, but the rest……

I should be thankful that this Azzedine Alaia chocolate brown dress Penelope Cruz wore is not black, but I am still mourning the loss of her fantastic style, to see this as a positive.

Yikes. The coat Rachel Weisz is wearing doesn’t cover up enough of her floral dress.

I love the fearless Sandra Oh on the red carpet. She opting for this fuschia pink tunic Jenni Kayne Resort 2009 dress with black pumps.

Sandra is already on trend for Fall 09, as we saw a lot of this colour at New York Fashion Week.

Look who is back, not surprisingly wearing black. Ellen Page.

Rose Byrne’s white Calvin Klein Spring 2009 dress, is a perfect fit for her.

She keeps the minimalist look going by opting for plain silver pumps and no jewelery.

The shoulder pads on Mary-Kate Olsen’s Balmain dress are too dominate for my liking. It makes her appear to have no neck.

Her beige heels are by Proenza Schouler.

On the plus-side, she looks very healthy.

February 21st, 2009

I was going to take a day off today, but there were so many events last night, I have to keep up.

Anne Hathaway arrived wearing a Helmut Lang Spring 2009 pleated tapered smoking wool pants, with a black smoking wool tuxedo jacket.

I do like the suit, but I wish she had broken up the black a bit, even if it was just the heels.

Taraji P. Henson looked sensational wearing a David Meister black satin strapless cocktail dress with an interesting detail on the bodice.

Her look was completed with statement necklace, gorgeous strappy sandals and a pewter oval Mary Norton clutch.

Elizabeth Banks wore a navy blue asymmetrical dress with nude strappy sandals.

Viola Davis wore silver strappy sandals with a violet 3/4 sleeved dress, which had a black leather sash at the waist.

Charlize Theron has been MIA on the red carpet for a while, so it was nice to see her in a laid back casual look at this event. She wore head to toe black including a LBD, tights and ankle booties.

A make-up free Jessica Alba also opted for all black. I love her short-sleeved black top with black shorts, which she wore with black and white striped heels.

Anne Hathaway broke up the her all black look, with a black Andrew GN Spring 2009 dress which had a gold beaded neckline, and a gold rope belt.

Black pumps complete the look.

Thankfully Kerry Washington did not get the ‘all black memo’ as she arrived looking Spring fresh wearing a white and coral Jason Wu Spring 2009 ensemble, including a striped skirt, an embroidered blouse and a grey blazer.

Both Anne Hathaway and Olivia Molina wore this white Azzaro gown with plenty style and grace.

Many of you red carpet purists were a bit disappointed that Olivia arrived at the Goya Awards wearing the same dress which Anne Hathaway had worn to the SAG Awards, exactly a week earlier.

I’m not being obvious by picking the Hollywood movie star, but I do prefer this dress on Anne.

I love her wavy hair, but Olivia’s black Louboutin clutch loses her points. A clutch that matched the crystal embellishment would have worked better, or no clutch at all like Anne.

I am really hoping Anne Hathaway is saving her best dress for the Oscars, because this ivory Chloe crystal embroidered dress is slightly ill fitting, plus I think the colour washes her out.

She wore her dress with Christian Louboutin Very Galaxy heels.

Taraji P. Henson is wearing my favourite colour.

Some of you might think her look is too matchy matchy, but I love the colour against her skin.

What I don’t like is her choice of clutch. Apart from the colour, it feels too big and cheap for her chic Alberta Ferretti ensemble.

Amy Adams wore a haltered turquoise RM by Roland Mouret dress with gold sandals.

Although I like the colour, I am not too sure about the draping on the front of her dress.

It’s nice to see her hair down again.

Kate Winslet was the only nominee who opted for black.

She looked flawless, as we have come to expect, wearing head to toe Helmut Lang.

Penelope Cruz had only arrived in LA, 2 hours before this luncheon, after flying from the Goya Awards in Madrid.

After a 10 hour flight I am sure dressing up was the last thing on her mind, but the Oscar nominated actress make a good effort in this ivory YSL suit.

Love the big blown out hair.

Marisa Tomei wore a very chic Christian Dior ivory belted dress, with champagne coloured Jimmy Choo shoes.

She carried a clutch which matched her dress.

Viola Davis loves bright colours. This was evident in her vibrant yellow SAG Awards gown, and again here, with her red David Meister sheath dress.

She completed her look with Givenchy heels.
