Best Dressed of The Week - Aishwarya Rai in Roberto Cavalli

I hope you all had a great Memorial and Bank Holiday weekend.

BDOTW was very hard this week, with several BDOTY contenders on this week’s list.

My finger hovered over Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace, Aishwarya Rai in Roberto Cavalli, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Gucci Première and Sonam Kapoor in Anamika Khanna before settling on Aishwarya Rai.

Purely because the drama of the look was on another level – and by your votes it would appear you agree – plus, the dress still gives me goosebumps a week on, and it’s not often I can say that about a re-run.

When it came to the fellas our opinions differed. You went for Ryan Gosling in Gucci sans tie, whereas my heart said Channing Tatum, as always, but my head said James McAvoy in Burberry Tailoring.

Aishwarya Rai In Armani Privé - amfAR Cinema Against Aids Gala

Aishwarya Rai joined a host of celebrities this evening (May 22) for the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France.

Knocking it out of the fashion ballpark for the third time in a row, the Indian actress wore Armani Privé.

As the Italian brand has served her so well in the past, I knew she would have an Armani Privé moment before this festival was through.

Wearing a blush, layered Fall 2013 gown with graduated crystal details, the stunning look was styled with a matching clutch and Chopard jewels.

While I get the bold red lip to prevent a washed-out look and amp up the glamour, the green eyeshadow is a touch perplexing.

Aishwarya Rai In Roberto Cavalli - ‘The Search’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Aishwarya Rai returned to the red carpet for ‘The Search’ premiere during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival this evening (May 24) in Cannes, France.

Selecting yet another Roberto Cavalli gown, the actress once again brought an unobtainable level of glamour to the red carpet.

While this stunning white, fully embellished gown doesn’t pack the same punch as last night’s jaw-dropping selection, it’s still a two-finger salute to her critics, and she is still one of the most beautiful women on this red carpet.

If I had to guess, she’s probably saying, “How you like me now?”

A pair of linear pear-shaped diamond drop Chopard earrings completed her look.

Aishwarya Rai In Roberto Cavalli - 'Deux Jours, Une Nuit' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended the ‘Two Days, One Night’ (‘Deux Jours, Une Nuit’) premiere during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival this evening (May 20) in Cannes, France.

She’s arrived, in more ways than one: firstly, her flight was delayed so she missed her scheduled slot on the red carpet, but she also arrived in all her spectacular glory, bestowing onto us the glamour and elegance this event was made for, and in some respects has been sorely missing.

Roberto Cavalli created this drop-dead gorgeous gold-embellished creation. Cut to flatter Aishwarya’s stunning figure, she styled the look with touches of red to her lips and nails, with tumbling tresses around her shoulders.

It might be too early to call it, but this has potential to be my favourite of the night.

Thanks to everyone who has pointed out that this had been worn by Kristin Chenoweth to the Oscars.

Who Wore Roberto Cavalli Better Jennifer Hudson or Aishwarya Rai

On the night of the Oscars Jennifer Hudson wore this gorgeous Roberto Cavalli blue sequin gown, which she styled with a complementary sequin Jimmy Choo clutch, Sutra earrings and bright-blue Giuseppe Zanotti platform peep-toes.

Indian actress Aishwarya Rai wore the same gown to the 2013 Life Ball in Vienna on Saturday, opting not to focus on the central slit.

She styled her look with just black pumps and a few subtle jewels.

For keeping the blue theme going and adding a touch of pizzazz to her look, Jennifer wins for me.

Life Ball 2013

As we’ve seen time and again at the Cannes Film Festival, Roberto Cavalli is a reigning king of the soiree scene. The designer ruled the red carpet again at Saturday’s extravagant 21st Life Ball and its accompanying, exclusive AIDS Solidarity Gala, which was hosted in the Viennese Hofburg Palace in Austria. A trio of Cavalli lovelies were all dressed to impress, naturally.

Karolina Kurkova: After strutting out a memorable, skin-flaunting Roberto Cavalli entrance at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala last week, this supermodel returned to the designer for the Solidarity soiree. Except this time, she arrived with far more fabric on her statuesque frame. Still, with this androgynous, embellished tuxedo statement, she was as sexy as ever. This girl can work a power suit to the max. Her long flowing locks and a look-at-me red lippie gave us even more glam.

Aishwarya Rai: Speaking of glam, the Indian star served it up in spades. As the International Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS, she lit up the Life Ball stage with her covetable Cavalli hourglass gown, a long-sleeve, dark navy number that was awash in shimmering mermaid-like scales. A peek-a-boo front slit put another level of sultriness into this exit.

Nieves Alvarez: Usually this Spanish model/TV host’s enviable shoes are her plus-one, but she had a handsome accessory in husband Marco Severini, who joined her at the event. She was a long-and-lean screen siren in her Cavalli red column gown featuring an embossed Byzantine pattern, half-circle cutouts at the neckline and a side slit. Gold accessories accented the look with Nieves’s brand of bold style.
