Diane Kruger for Chanel: Where Beauty Begins

Chanel Diane Kruger

Back in April it was announced that Diane Kruger was going to be the face for Chanel’s cosmetics campaign.

The success of the campaign can be seen here with images captured by Peter Lindbergh, seeing the German actress looking very elegant posing against a beach backdrop.

Chanel’s Resynchronizing Collection features the Le Jour de Chanel, La Nuit de Chanel and Le Weekend de Chanel creams, which are all made to re-energize the skin – and who would disagree when Diane looks so refreshed here?

Le Jour De Chanel Morning Reactivating Face Care promises to reactivate and strengthen skin using a combination of jasmine extract and salicylic acid. Your complexion will appear smooth and radiant, and ready to face the day.

La Nuit De Chanel Evening Recharging Face Care is designed to repair and recharge once the sun goes down. Frankincense extract from the resin of the Boswellia serrata tree soothes the skin, while hyaluronic acid provides a plumping effect. Your complexion will appear supple upon awakening, with no signs of dullness.

Le Weekend De Chanel Weekly Renewing Face Care enhances renewal and replenishes hydration to give skin a much-needed weekend break. Combined with relaxing rose water, a gentle glycolic acid complex is gradually released for ideal exfoliation and lasting moisture. Skin is softer and more luminous for the week ahead.

Beyonce Knowles In Helmut Lang – Battery Park

Beyonce Knowles In Helmut Lang - Battery Park

After an epic performance from Beyonce at the ‘Chime For Change: The Sound Of Change Live’ Concert on Saturday in London – where her husband Jay Z joined her on stage, much to the crowd’s delight – the couple were spotted back in New York City on Sunday out on a date, seeing ‘Iron Man 3’ in Battery Park.

Her date-night look was sexy, yet effortless; she chose a white Helmut Lang collarless blazer with black leather inserts in the neckline, to which she added an ivory scoop-neck top and black leather shorts.

Accessories included a pork-pie hat, an Alexander Wang ‘Devere’ bag (we’ve seen her carry once before), shades and green heels.

I don’t know about you, but wearing shorts to an air-conditioned movie theatre just gave me the chills. Sometimes the temperatures in those theatres go below freezing.

The ABCs of Achieving a Flawless Complexion

Last season, the must-have product in every beauty junkie’s make-up bag was a BB cream – a tinted moisturizer-slash-primer-slash-anti-aging-serum.

So fans of the Beauty Balm will be pleased to learn that another multi-tasking product, aimed at colour correction, has just landed at beauty counters.

CC creams, aka Colour or Complexion Correction creams, are the latest skincare innovation cribbed from Asia and this year Chanel became the first international brand to jump on the bandwagon with their CC cream, Correction Complete SPF30PA+++.

While both products act as a tinted moisturiser and sunscreen in one, CC creams give more full, foundation-like coverage, masking discoloration, pimples, age spots and sallow skin while simultaneously tackling aging and brightening the skin with ingredients such as liquorice, vitamin C and antioxidants.

Makeup artist Kristee Liu, whose rock ’n roll clientele includes Cher, Pink and Alanis, says: ‘It’s a total improvement on the BB cream. CC creams are infused with skin-improving nutrients so they have long-term benefits such as improved skin texture, collagen renewal, diminished dark spots and brighter overall appearance.’

Olympic Beauty

The Opening Ceremony is done, the medals are flowing and, like most of us, you probably have Olympic Fever.

If you’re ready to stake your claim atop Glastonbury Tor we have the makeup and skin essentials that will go the distance while you splash, slam dunk and mad dash.

Whether you’re sweating it on a court or just trying to make it through an extremely hot day, products that last, don’t require frequent touch ups and go day to night are something that anyone can use. It’s beauty of Olympian proportions.

When you have beautiful eyes like track and field star Lolo Jones, you want to highlight them and know that at the end of the race, the daily rat race that is, your eye makeup won’t be gone or smudged all over. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr gets the job done.

This creamy gel shadow blends easily, stays put and comes in a variety of hot colours including the aptly named ‘Bold Gold’. Another winning option is Sephora’s Jumbo Liner 12 Hr Wear Waterproof. Not only does it last but the pencil makes for ease of use and portability. Stash one in the gym or beach bag.

Be it surf, tears, or rain you face, you don’t have to worry about inky streaks under your eyes with Cover Girl’s Lash Blast 24 Hour or MAC’s Extended Play Lash. These volumizing, durable formulas keep your eyes defined through whatever the day throws at you.

An athlete might not normally wear foundation when competing, but in this thing we call life, a little lasting coverage is a good thing. Clarins Everlasting Foundation is just that: everlasting. The lightweight semi-matte formula perfects, covers, adds luminosity and even survives a dive in the pool on a record-heat day. You don’t need to be Rebecca Adlington to appreciate that.

Sunscreen is a must, day in, day out. But what will hold up during a sweaty afternoon tennis match or two-mile run? Two-time Olympic Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist Misty May-Treanor says that Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 45 with Helioplex is the “most durable” she’s tried. For a more natural but no less tough formula, Aubrey Organics Natural Sun SPF 30 uses Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for superior ray blocking in a thick moisturizing cream with antioxidant-rich green tea.

Now that you’re armed with the essentials, get out there and make it a gold-winning performance every day.

Faking Perfect Skin

Bad skin days are something we all suffer once in a while, but looking at the red carpet you would be hard pressed to believe that problem skin is ever a problem that these ladies have to deal with.

In fact, Hilary Swank, Selma Hayek, Katy Perry, Megan Fox and Cameron Diaz are just a few big names who have had to brave the cameras in the midst of a nasty break-out.

Thankfully, cosmetics companies have wised up to the need for make-up that both conceals and treats pesky blemishes at the same time and with a bit of regular maintenance and forward planning you should never be caught looking anything less than camera ready. Here’s how to fake it ‘till you make it.

Start by committing to taking a regular multivitamin for your skin. I love Murad Pure Skin Clarifying Supplement.

Invest in a Clarisonic Cleansing Brush with an Acne Cleansing Brush Head and Clarifying Cleanser.

Stop using liquid sunscreen and switch to mineral powders. I swear by Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Spf 15.

Look for double duty make-up and use it – but lightly. The trick is to make the most of the good, clear skin and keep any heavy coverage to the problem areas.

Prep the skin with a calming anti-acne primer like Colorescience PRO Let Me Be Clear Primer for Problem Skin or Clearprep FX Matte Foundation Primer and Anti-Acne Treatment.

Use a foundation that reduces redness, like Clinique Redness Solutions Foundation which also contains probiotics.

If you do have blemishes, using a clean make-up brush, apply concealer onto problem areas blending gently outwards. Try Acne Treatment Concealer by Murad and Jane Iredale Zap&Hide Blemish Concealer.

Finally set it all with a powder like Dermablend Loose Setting Powder and a spritz of Fix + from M.A.C..
