Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Gwen Stefani OPI

It looks like Rita Ora isn’t the only blonde singer teaming up with a beauty brand. Gwen Stefani and OPI have come together to create a limited collection consisting of seven polishes.

Within the collection two will have a ‘semi-matte satin finish’ which do not require a top coat.

There is also a signature Gwen-red polish that’s packaged with studs, Swarovski elements, and nail glue for DIY nail art.

The collection, which was inspired by the 2013 Met Gala’s punk theme, is set for released in January 2014 with stage names like ‘Love.Angel.Music.Baby’ (Gwen’s 2004 debut solo album), ’4 in the Morning’, ‘Over & Over A-Gwen’, ‘In True Stefani Fashion’ a holographic silver glitter and ‘Lay Down That Base’, a base coat for a mirrored finish.

Beauty Spot DIY Nail Art

If the recent spring fashion weeks and the Emmys red carpet taught us anything, it’s that nail art isn’t going anywhere.

At Sundays award show, stars like Zooey Deschanel, Kate Mara, Kelly Osbourne and Zosia Mamet all sported nail art–and from Zooey’s whimsical black and white checkered patterned nails to Kate’s subdued white and silver chevron print, nail art can be as bold or subtle as you want.

Check out these options for easy ways to create nail art at home.

Beauty 1

After seven days of high fashion and stunning beauty, we’ve compiled a list of the spring beauty trends from New York Fashion Week that we think celebrities will be rocking on the red carpet soon.

Nails: The ‘Floating Moon’ Mani
Nail art isn’t going anywhere, but it is taking a minimalistic turn for spring. At Milly by Michelle, butterLONDON manicurist Katie Jane Hughes painted just the moon of the fingernails in the shade Cotton Buds and then filled in the rest of the nail with a nude shade.

Eyes: The Rose Gold Smokey Eye
If you don’t know that rose gold is all the rage, then you definitely haven’t been paying attention! And at Jason Wu, the shade was used to create a thoroughly modern smokey eye. Makeup artist Diane Kendal used the shimmery caramel colour from Lancome Color Design Eye Brightening All-in-One 5 Pan Shadow & Liner Palette in Bronze Amour to lay a lovely bronze cat-eye shape base, and then applied rose gold coloured glitter over the top. This would be such a high impact look at the Academy Awards in March!

Lips: Vibrant violet
This past spring and summer, stars had lots of fun with bright pink and even orange lips, and next up, they’ll be experimenting with violet. At Prabal Gurung, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury created an eye-catching violet lip by mixing M.A.C. Lipmix in white and burgundy for her own custom shade. Emma Rossum loves to play with colour, so I’d love to see her try this out first.

Hair: Sleek Ponytails
It may not be a new trend, but the perfectly sleek ponytail, loved by supermodels and actresses alike, is going to be a huge trend this spring. The look was seen on the runways of designers such as Victoria Beckham, Altuzarra and Jason Wu. At Altuzarra, hairstylist Odile Gilbert began by making a center part and then blow-drying the hair with Kérastase Mousse Bouffante and sealing the ends with Kérastase Fibre Architecte. The hair was then pulled back into a low, sleek ponytail and finished with Kérastase Laque Dentelle.

Hailee Steinfeld's Teen Choice Awards Starbust Nail Art

During Comic-Con, Hailee Steinfeld’s nail art managed to even upstage her all-eyes-on-you Kenzo dress, and she was at it again for the Teen Choice Awards.

At first glance it would appear that the nail art was merely replicating the colour and starburst print on her House of Holland dress, but there is more to it than first meets the eye: Hailee was sending out an important message.

The teen had seen an anti-bullying campaign in a magazine where young girls were asked to make a “pinky swear” promise to be kind by wearing blue polish on their pinky fingers, so that’s exactly what she did.

Chanel celebrity manicurist Ashlie Johnson created the look, starting off with two coats of Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Elixir before coating the actress’s pinkies with Chanel’s Le Vernis Nail Colour in Blue Satin.

The blue was also used to replicate the starburst pattern seen on her frock on the ring fingers, with a layer of Chanel’s Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer Top Coat and a sprinkle of glitter for added shine completing the look.

Mani Pedi

I hope you’re in the mood for some monochrome, because the stars are getting matchy-matchy!

Wearing the same nail polish on your fingers and toes is a huge trend right now–and Hollywood is thinking red and nude.

Young trendsetter Hailee Steinfeld used a fiery shade of polish to pop against her cobalt blue dress, shoes and clutch, while Petra Nemcova took the trend one step further by matching her lipstick as well. Talk about striking.

On the nude side of things, Jennifer Aniston adopted the trend to fit her subdued style at the Spike TV Awards.

So do you like these matching mani/pedis, or do you prefer to mix things up on your fingers and toes?

Beauty Trend Spotting White Hot Mani 2

Stark white manicures are going to be huge this summer, and celebs are already taking note.

After making a huge showing on the Spring 2013 runways at Moschino, Kate Spade, Rag & Bone to name a few, white nails have been popping up on everyone from Zoe Saldana to Kristen Wiig to Naya Rivera.

While many women are skeptical of the look, I highly recommend giving it a try. You’ll find it’s eye-catching, chic and surprisingly sophisticated.

Since streaks can show up easily in white opaque polishes, here’s how to get a smooth finish on your white mani–without caking on layer after layer of polish:

Start with a ridge-filling base coat like Butter London’s Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat.

Let it dry completely, and then apply a thin layer of your white lacquer.

Think of this as a primer, and don’t worry about streaks–it’s all about getting that initial color on the nail. Then make the second coat slightly thicker.

If there are any streaks showing (most likely there won’t be.) after the second coat, you can finish off with a super thin third coat. Seal it all with a clear top coat like Essie Good to Go! Fastest Drying Top Coat.

Your final product will be on-trend and red carpet ready.
