Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Who Wore Femme D’armes Better Brooklyn Decker or Louise Roe

We were first introduced to Femme D’armes by Brooklyn Decker, who wore this black lace gown with an open back and thigh-high slit to the ‘Battleship’ premiere in Seoul, South Korea back in April last year.

Styling the look with Christian Louboutin criss-cross pumps and wavy tresses, she was pitch perfect.

British TV host Louise Roe wore the nude version of the dress to the 2012 Glamour Woman of the Year Awards back in November.

Her soft, pretty dress was styled with a faux bob, a hot-pink Maison Martin Margiela for H&M candy-wrapper clutch, Sorellina earrings, a Lulu Frost bracelet and toe-cap pumps from her own Stylistpick collection.

On Sunday night, sporting a trendy top-knot, Louise wore the same dress again to the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, this time in black.

Adding a bit of high-street chic to the red carpet, she styled her look with Zara shoes, with her other accessories including Jacqueline Nerguizian jewels and a Farbod Barsum clutch.

Brooklyn wins for me as I prefer her simple styling of this look.

Who Wore Rochas Better Emma Stone or Anna Dello Russo

Usually Anna Dello Russo gets her hands on runway pieces first but on this occasion Emma Stone beat her to the punch.

The blonde actress was the first to wear this brown Rochas Fall 2012 dress to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Tokyo premiere back in June.

Her drop-waist dress with a puffy skirt was styled with cute Christian Louboutin ‘Love Me Bow’ heels and a rolled updo.

Anna wore her dress to the Miu Miu Spring 2013 presentation during Paris Fashion Week back in October.

The editor-at-large of Vogue Nippon styled her brown dress with aqua-blue accessories including Miu Miu booties, Anna Dello Russo for H&M earrings and a croc bag by Brazilian designer Paula Cademartori.

Emma wins for me as I prefer her softer approach to styling this look.

Who Wore Armani Better Anna Dello Russo or Fan Bingbing

Anna Dello Russo was the first to wear this Giorgio Armani black Fall 2012 sequin dress when she took her front row seat at the Saint Laurent Spring 2013 show during Paris Fashion Week back in October.

The editor-at-large for Vogue Nippon styled her look with an armful of bracelets, cap-toe pumps, a gold clutch and drop earrings.

A relatively demure look by her standards.

Fan Bingbing wore the same look last month while attending the Bazaar Men’s Style Awards held in Beijing, China.

She opted to style her look with the same runway hat, platform heels and a red Louis Vuitton bag.

After being on the fence when it came to Bingbing’s look, seeing the look without the hat has swayed me to appreciate that added quirk. It really adds lift to the look so the Asian beauty wins for me.

Who Wore Zuhair Murad Couture Better Padma Lakshmi or Alessandra Ambrosio

Back in September, Padma Lakshmi attended the 2012 Creative Arts Emmy Awards wearing a Zuhair Murad Spring 2012 Couture gown.

The sheer strapless figure-hugging gown with floral embroidery and a corseted back was simply styled with a side-swept ponytail.

A month later, Alessandra Ambrosio wore the same sexy frock with straps to the amfAR Inspiration Gala held in California, with a sugary half-up, half-down hairstyle.

This was an easy win for Padma. Her sexy curves make this gown much more appealing.

Who Wore Louis Vuitton Better Kirsten Dunst, Huo Siyan or Alice Englert

Back in July, Kirsten Dunst hit the opening of Louis Vuitton’s latest boutique in Paris in a look from – what else? – Louis Vuitton’s 2013 resort collection. The actress paired the slightly casual maxi dress with a gold LV clutch, light makeup, and soft blonde waves.

The retro look of this dress is a tough one to pull off, but Kirsten got everything right with the accessory and styling choices.

Fellow actresses Alice Englert and Huo Siyan, however, didn’t show Kirsten’s flare for rocking the flower-child maxi look when they both donned the same dress this past fall.

Huo Siyan overshot her ensemble by copying the runway version of the look to the letter with a LV cardigan and blazer, which she wore to the L’Officiel 2012 China Elegance Awards in Beijing back in October.

She let the dress and layered pieces overwhelm her small frame. The result was too matchy-matchy and lacking any real sense of sophistication or high style.

Alice took to the red carpet in LA during early November for the screening of ‘Ginger and Rosa’ at AFI FEST 2012 and simply went too minimal. The dress looked too casual without any luxe touches or sense of sparkle.

The clear winner in this battle of the patterned maxi dresses is Kirsten Dunst.

WWIB Zhang & Rita Ora

Zhang Ziyi sported a pristine ensemble from Mugler’s Fall 2012 collection on the red carpet back in September while attending a press conference for ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ in Beijing, China.

The petite actress let the edgy look shine by pairing the peplum-adorned dress with sky-high Christian Louboutin ‘Daffodile’ pumps, minimal – yet still shimmering – Cindy Chao jewelry, and a sleek hairstyle. Plus, she really emphasized her tiny waist, using the structure of the dress to her advantage.

Singer Rita Ora donned the same futuristic look back in November while posing on the red carpet for the MOBO Awards in Liverpool, England.

While Rita definitely strikes a stylish chord with her red lips and matching Sergio Rossi clutch, she falls short with her accessory choices. I find that pure white looks tend to feel more sophisticated when paired with silver, so Rita’s flashy gold bangles and Dsquared² heels seem a bit on the distracting side.

Ziyi wins this Mugler mash-up thanks to her understated accoutrements.
