Trend Of The Week: Mini Dresses

Summer has finally landed on the red carpet as stars opted to go short this week in cute, flirty, fun, sexy mini dresses.

Their looks ranged from summery whites with tights, ruffled with a pop of colour, monochromatic, and minuscule with lots of glamour.

The key to pulling off this trend is not to go too short and wear your mini with class and confidence.

Trend Of The Week – Sexy Back

Paz Vega, Patina Miller, Catherine Zeta Jones, Heidi Klum and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley all showed us their sexy backs this week.

Their halter and open-back looks are suggestive, yet subtle and mysterious.

These stars were able to strike a unique balance between showing off a lot of skin, while keeping things classy.

The most important thing to pulling off this trend is to have an even radiant complexion.

It’s also important to note that when you are going backless, you don’t have to expose your cleavage or other body parts.

Paz, Patina and Catherine all interestingly opted for long sleeves.

We saw this trend a lot on the Spring 2011 runway.

Chloé, MaxMara and YSL all opted to send their models out in sexy backless numbers.

…Fan Bing Bing was laidback in Louis Vuitton, Jamie King gave us multi-colours and Leighton Meester gave us every type of embellishment available in her fashion forward Balmain mini dress.

Trend Of The Week Part 2: Thigh-High Splits

Celebs really enjoyed the second trend of the week as they got to show off their toned legs after months of personal training via their thigh-high splits.

This trend was highly visible at The Met Gala.

Renee Zellweger showcased her super toned legs walking up the Met steps in Carolina Herrera.

Others who also opted to go daring high were Brooklyn Decker in neon pink Michael Kors and Diane Kruger wowed the photographers in Jason Wu.

Kristen Stewart in Proenza Schouler, Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney and Ashely Olsen in vintage Dior all had sexy side splits on their dresses.

Ginnifer Goodwin’s Topshop Unique split was just above the knee, but Rosie Huntington-Whitely was more daring in Burberry as she flashed skin via her split, her shoulders and the keyhole detail in her dress.

Also this week, Mila Kunis at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner and Lea Michelle at the “Glee” Academy screening, both chose sexy Versace Fall 2011 dresses that feature splits.

Opting for red dress or thigh-high splits make very bold statements and they aren’t for the fashion faint hearted.

Perhaps you’re not quite ready to go as high with your split as Diane or pull off a head-to-toe red look like Dita but these sexy trends can be done subtly and in a way that will have you brimming with confidence as you step out on your own personal red carpet.

Who knows; maybe one day you’ll be ready to pair them together….think Jessica Rabbit.

Trend Of The Week Part 1: Ladies In Red

This week there were two very clear trends and both deserved to be highlighted.

Red was a favorite hue amongst celebs this week beginning at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner where Rosario Dawson and Brooklyn Decker both wore the colour in Escada and Giambattista Valli respectively.

Dita von Teese also chose red in the form of her figure-hugging Roland Mouret dress as she attended a taping of The Wendy Williams Show on Thursday.

Many celebs chose the colour when they attended the Met Gala on Monday beginning with Gisele Bundchen in a stunning strapless Alexander McQueen collection gown and Mary-Kate Olsen in vintage Givenchy Couture.

Others who stood out in the hue at The Met included ‘Glee’ girls Lea Michele in Escada and Dianna Agron in Michael Kors.

Saoirse Ronan also opted for red wearing Rodarte.

Like Gisele, Doutzen Kroes also went for a drama wearing a gorgeous Giambattista Valli gown.

Trend Of The Week – Spring Whites

We’ve seen the winter white trend. This week we saw celebrities like Olivia Palermo, Vanessa Hudgens, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robin Penn showcasing Spring white looks.

Leslie Mann kick started the trend in a bohemian Dolce & Gabbana maxi dress.

Robin Wright and Vanessa Hudgens sported sexy masculine white suits whilst Olivia Palermo sparkled like tinker bell on the red carpet in Marchesa.

The LWDs continued with Arielle Kebbel, Eve and Gwyneth Paltrow. Thankfully no one paired their looks with white heels.

Cameron Diaz took a more laidback approach pairing her Theyskens’ Theory jacket with white Vince Denim cropped skinny jeans, proving that a LWD isn’t the only way to achieve a wonderful spring white look. It worked well enough to land her in contention for BDOTW.

White is showing that it’s one of Spring’s major trends.

As each beauty displayed, white can be done in various forms. Glam, minimal or casual; a LWD in the evening is the perfect juxtaposition to its sister LBD this summer. White jeans for a casual stroll or a perfectly tailored pantsuit for a bold head-to-toe look; white is showing its just as hot as colour-blocking.

Just be careful or if you’re clumsy like me, invest in a Tide Bleach Pen.

Trend Of The Week: Statement Necklaces

Helen Mirren, Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum and Elle MacPherson all showcased very different looks this week, with the addition of statement necklaces.

Each stood out and created the perfect complementary accessory.

Dame Helen Mirren was a standout at the “Arthur” New York City Premiere adding a Lanvin bib necklace with pearl-crystal-tulle accents her Lanvin ensemble.

Amanda Seyfried accessorized her Karen Caldwell LBD with a multi-coloured Tom Binns statement necklace which complemented her red lips, and added the necessary colour and boldness to her simple yet sexy look.

Emmy Rossum opted to go black and gold for the launch of her ‘Emmy’ bag. The gold necklace and gold Elie Tahari skirt were the stand-out pieces of her look.

Elle MacPherson was the picture of 70’s glamour posing for photographers in Miami wearing a Lara Bohinc Lunar Eclipse necklace, which added even more pizzazz her Etro mustard yellow halter top and flared pants combo.

Statement necklaces are a great way to jazz up just about any look.

A simple tank, jeans and heels combination is instantly livened up during the day with a statement necklace. At night pair a statement necklace with the perfect LBD for a glamorous turn.

You can go really big or keep it relatively tame; there are numerous ways to incorporate the right statement into your look. Sometimes it’s great to let your accessories do the talking and these wonderful statement necklaces certainly speak for themselves.
