Laboratoriya 13 Fall 2011

The graduates of Laboratoriya 13 showcased their work during Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week today.

Sasha Telitsina, Elena Mashtakova, Yana Pechorina, Lana Bilyuga, Denis Doroshenko, Olga Primerova, Lyudmila Golovan, Anna Arbelina, Irina Zubareva, Alla Belousova, Lyudmila Hatlamadzhieva, Marusya Zaitseva and Rusudan Kobyakova presented 5 looks each during this show.

The Russian designers showed tremendous enthusiasm; using innovative techniques and stand out colours.

I loved Sasha Telitsina’s sexy nun inspired collection; the punky attitude of Lana Bilyuga’s presentation; the lady-like looks by Olga Primerova; the bright mix of colours presented by Alla Belousova and Rusudan Kobyakova for pushing the envelope and not being afraid to produce a collection that Lady GaGa would appreciate. James Goldstein @ Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week

The thing about fashion week is that you see the same faces over and over again.

That hasn’t happened during Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week, but I came across a very familiar face today.

He’s commonly known as, “That guy in the front row”, but his name is James Goldstein.

Mr Goldstein was decked out in a Versace sequined black and white jacket today, with his trademark leather cowboy hat, black pants and a black top with a scarf tied around his neck.

I had a brief chat with him after seeing him at Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Paris and Milan, I was curious to find out what he loved about Russia.

“I love the Moscow; the people treat me really well. I have a great time whenever I come here, so I decided that I might as well come during fashion week and enjoy that at the same time as I enjoy Moscow”.

This is not his first time attending Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week. He said, “I’ve been coming to these Fashion Weeks twice a year for about 5 years”.

“I love the creativity of fashion, I love to be fashionable myself and I just can always enjoy watching fashion shows anywhere in the world. The more I go to, the more I love fashion”.

I asked him about his Balmain Spring 2011 red leather embellished jacket which he wore front row at the Balmain Fall 2011 presentation during Paris Fashion Week.

He shared, “I just got that jacket a few weeks ago when I was in Paris, it a spectacular jacket and it’s my favourite piece of the current season”.

“Some of my regular designers over the past few years – Cavalli, Galliano, Gucci, they didn’t come up with much this season of interest to me, so I have to rely on some other designers.”

Karolina Kurkova In Dolce & Gabbana – Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week

I’m currently in Moscow for the Mercedes Benz Russia Fashion Week.

On my first day I got to meet Karolina Kurkova in the Mercedes-Benz lounge.

The supermodel who’s career seems to be going from strength to strength is the face of the new Mercedes Benz CLS.

She looked stunning wearing a Dolce & Gabbana Resort 2011 beige lace dress with Walter Steiger nude pumps and a selection of Fenton/Fallon bracelets.

She told me that this was her first time in Russia and that she loves the vibe of the city.

The supermodel jumped at the chance to be the face of the new Mercedes Benz CLS because she loved the car. She enthusiastically told me that the car is, “Sexy, powerful, has curves like a woman and has a hint of danger about it.”

She loves to drive, preferring long drives outside New York City to sitting in Manhattan traffic.

The humble model loves being a spokesperson and a role model for young girls and women. She learnt her craft at the school of Victoria’s Secret, who taught her everything she knows about public speaking.

I found Karolina very engaging. It was like talking to a friend. She gushed about her husband and her young son, who she can’t bear to be away from for too long.

For the photoshoot of the Mercedes Benz CLS ad campaign she sported a fierce dramatic look. It was so dramatic that her young son didn’t recognise mummy with all that make-up.

She loving referred to the CLS car as “her.”

I guess the two bonded during the photoshoot.
