Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Rita Ora’s second look was much improved from her red-carpet appearance at the 2012 MTV Music Video Awards on Thursday evening.

The British singer took to the stage to present an award to Chris Brown wearing a Stéphane Rolland Fall 2012 Couture gown.

I’m glad that someone other than Cheryl Cole is wearing a look by this very talented designer, and that the first person to wear this collection wasn’t Kim Kardashian.

Her white crepe gown with silicone white slices on the shoulders and a tan leather harness is one of Rita’s most elegant looks to date.

Elegant, while still maintaining her edge.

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine was in her element as she performed on day three of Leeds Festival at Bramham Park on Sunday in Leeds, England.

There is no denying that Florence’s dresses are as instrumental to her performances as her powerhouse voice.

On this occasion she opted for a dark gothic-like gown by Asian-British designer Marina Qureshi.

The Fall 2012 sheer cobweb-like long-sleeve black gown with feather accents on the skirt was worn with a black bodysuit.

Considering it was raining during the festival, I’m sure this helped to keep her warm.

Yao Chen made an appearance at Mr Li Jian’s Beijing Concert in China last week.

The Asian actress looked heavenly wearing a dress from Prabal Gurung’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection.

I adore everything about this look, which works perfectly against her pale skin tone.

Her pale-rose v-neck tulle dress with burnt opalescent paillettes and sequins was styled with complementary silver accessories including a bangle, a leather belt and heels.

I see this as a BDOTW contender.

Do you?

Beyoncé Knowles donned white again when she took to the stage at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday in New York City.

The singer performed ‘I Was Here’, which was taped in front of a live audience to premiere August 19 on World Humanitarian Day.

Not only did she leave the audience breathless with her performance, but also her stunning Marc Bouwer Pre-Fall 2012 gown.

Her white micro-sequin long-sleeve gown with bold shoulders and a cut-out detail could be mistaken for a couture gown.

Once again she opted for no accessories, keeping her makeup natural with a sleek ponytail.

An early candidate for BDOTW.

Florence Welch, lead singer of Florence and the Machine, performed live at Grant Park in Chicago, as part of Day Three of Lollapalooza 2012 this past weekend.

The British singer premiered her band’s latest single ‘Breath of Life’ from the ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ movie soundtrack while wearing a lovely long-sleeved tweed-print cuff beaded kaftan from Qatar-based fashion brand, Toujouri.

This beautiful red-and-black floral-patterned design from Toujouri’s Fall 2012 collection flowed fabulously on the singer’s lengthy frame.

The rest of her ensemble is kept rather simple, letting the kaftan gown stand out on its own.

I find that the colours and style aren’t quite summer-in-the-park; but other than that I think the singer pulls off the Toujouri design well as a very modern, artsy look.

Monica Brown was one of the many performers who paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston at the 2012 BET Awards yesterday evening.

Her emotional rendition of Whitney’s gospel classic ‘I Love The Lord’ even had Soulja Boy shedding a tear.

Monica performed her tribute wearing an Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 dress from the ‘Plato Atlantis’ collection; the last produced by the late designer.

As a long-time fan of Alexander McQueen it’s not a surprise that she opted to wear this dress featuring a kaleidoscopic snakeskin print, v-neck and cap sleeves.

What is a surprise is to see this look as a rise-and-fall gown, as only mini dresses were presented in this print.

Opting to keep the same hairstyle she wore on the red carpet, she added nude pumps to her look.

farfetch.com and farfetch.com US are selling this iconic piece as part of their
Alexander McQueen archival collection.
