Looking back on Spring 2008, the most beautiful ruffled dresses this season were from Lanvin, Ralph Lauren and Giambattista Valli. If money was no object I would have spent heavily on Lanvin.

Romantic blouses, flirty dresses, and filmy skirts showcased the lady-like look

Celebrities embraced the ruffles look, which was seen as the hot romantic trend, and they were everywhere.

Rihanna surprised everyone when she wore a yellow Giambattista Valli gown to this years BET Awards.

It was Natalie Portman who embraced this trend more than any other celebrity, wearing 3 Lanvin ruffled dresses in one week at the Cannes Film Festival.

On Friday, Spring 2009 Fashion Week kicks off in New York.

I will be excitedly glued to my computer studying each outfit that hits the runway via Style.com, like I am revising for an exam.

The schedule has me excitedly waiting to seem designers like Monique Lhuillier, Brian Reyes, Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Philip Lim, Naeem Khan, and many more.

Everyday this week, I will be looking back at the many Spring 2008 trends as we say goodbye to them to them and hello to Spring 2009.

First off florals.

There were flowers all over the runways, everything was coming up roses, tulips, peonies, and poppies.

Ralph Lauren did formal florals, Stella McCartney had laid-back wildflower prints and Balenciaga had graphic blooms.

Celebrities loved this trend, as it was bold, bright, sweet and ultra feminine.

Strapless, maxi, sheaths, jumpsuits all got the floral touch.

Miuccia Prada revamped lace’s musty image by creating surprisingly modern full-lace ensembles in brown, powder blue, nude, orange and of course black.

The collection was shown back in February, but now we’ve seen the lace everywhere. In editorials, to the red carpet to high street versions. It seems like everyone has fallen in love with lace.

In June we saw the advertising campaign for Prada’s Fall collection, fronted by Linda Evangelista and shot by Steven Meisel.

I think this was a great casting, as Linda very much fits the extreme elegance of this collection.

This was one of many Fall ads, to signal the return of the supermodel.

…and this stunning editorial was further proof.

Open any August or September magazine, and you will see Prada lace staring back at you.

Magazine’s such as Vogue Italia, Vogue Germany, Elle France, Harper’s Bazaar UK, Wonderland and Vogue China, have all featured Prada lace pieces.

…and Prada lace has featured on many covers as well, including 6 Pop covers.

What starts on the runway, is advertised, then it appears in editorials, then it hits the red carpet.

Charlize Theron showed us all how lace can be worn, and how fantastic it looks for those who had doubts.

Tilda Swinton did not fair as well in her dress, which she wore to the Costume Institute Gala, in my opinion, as I think there were edgier pieces from this collection, which would have suited her style better.

Campaign girl Linda Evangelista, opted to mix nude with black. As beautiful as Linda is, she struggled to pull it off. In fact I think anyone would struggle to pull this off, but kudos to her for trying.

English actress Rebecca Hall opted for a very safe lace dress, which she wore to the Vicky Cristina Barcelona LA premiere with Prada peep-toes.

We have not seen many celebs dare to try this trend, but I am sure we will see more after they have seen Charlize’s spectacular results.

This trend is not just for celebs. We can already find this trend in our stores.

Topshop Lace Dress £45
Milly Margot Lace Dress £210
L’Wren Scott Lace shift dress £1,415

Jewelry is back in a big way. The Fall 2008 runways showed us bigger is better when it comes to wearing multiple necklaces, or one large statement necklace this Fall.

Givenchy paid homage to the A Team’s Mr T, whilst Dries van Noten used multiple bangles as necklaces.

A signature necklaces force everything else to take a back-seat, so if you adopt this trend, don’t expect people to notice your £500 Louboutin’s.

Of course celebs are not waiting for Fall to adopt this trend. We have seen Madonna (Givenchy), Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson (Sonia Boyajian) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Erickson Beamon) already wear this trend more than once.

This trend is already in stores and on the internet, so glam up your look with pendants, chains down to the waist and unusual trinkets and shapes.

Miss Selfridge Butterfly Necklace £20
Malababa Eslabote Necklace
$125
Alexander McQueen Maharajah Necklace £1,895

There is a new trend in on the red carpet, which is what appears to be a top and a skirt, that is actually a dress.

A two-in-one dress.

On the Fall runways there was evidence that we should be mixing separates, both in colours and textures.

What appears to be Kelly Osbourne’s grey top and black belted skirt is actually a two-in-one dress from Theory. Solange Knowles white blouse and black skirt two-in-one combo is from BCBG Max Azria, and Mischa Barton’s two-in-one is rom Mulberry.

For those less experimental, like myself, the two-in-one will help you adapt this trend in a cost effective way.

The two-in-one can give the illusion of a high waisted skirt and blouse, which hugs in all the right places to give the always desired hour-glass shape.

I discovered that this trend is already all over the Internet & on the high street

Alice + Olivia Jabot Belted Dress £385
Alexander Wang Vest Dress $695
Alice + Olivia Multi Ombre Trellis Dress $440
Rebecca Taylor Combo Dress $345

Miss Selfridge 2 For 1 Print Dress £45
Aquascutum Persephone color block dress £595
Derek Lam £1,070
Dorothy Perkins Animal 2 in 1 dress £30

This time last year Katie Holmes was morphing into Victoria Beckham with the skinny jeans, cropped hair, towering heels, large shades and carrying an oversized expensive bag.

These days the Broadway actress style is more relaxed wearing baggy “boyfriend” jeans.

Her brand of choice is PRPS, which are actually mens jeans. David Beckham loves the brand, is often seen wearing them.

Everyday the paparazzi have captured Katie in her jeans which were at first pegged, but towards the end of the week she let them hang loose.

Katie is not the only one to have been seen wearing baggy jeans, in fact it was Victoria Beckham – shock horror – who was first spotted wearing baggy jeans whilst out shopping a few weeks ago.

Hedi Klum has also been spotted wearing baggy’s whilst shopping. Amanda Peet wore a baggy pair of pegged jeans on the red carpet, and very surprisingly Reese Witherspoon’s is adopting this trend with her pegged ripped jeans.

In order to adopt this look yourself, I think it is better to buy men’s jeans, but I guess you will soon start to seen many women’s version in stores soon.

I personally love boot-cut jeans, and I can’t see myself adopting this style.

There were two clear trends at last night’s Teen Choice Awards.

The girls who just wanted to have fun opted for the Mini.

Mini’s dresses were worn by the more daring like Rachel Bilson, Jessica Szohr, Blake Lively and Vanessa Hudgens, in bright colours of aqua-marine, purple and orange.

Maxi dress were worn by Sophia Bush, Hayden Panettiere, Fergie and Lauren Conrad for a more sophisticated look.

I personally prefer the mini brigade.
