Red Carpet Fashion Awards

The best way to banish the winter blues is with sunshine yellow.

When it comes to spring, there isn’t a colour more associated with the season than this sunny hue; think daffodils, sunflowers, and baby chicks.

We saw yellow on the red carpet during awards seasons courtesy of Heidi Klum, Rashida Jones, Charlize Theron and Maria Menounos.

Most recently, stars like Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Richie, Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Williams and designer Rachel Roy have donned yellow to welcome in the new season.

Green was most definitely the colour to be seen wearing on St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, as demonstrated by these stars.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge: The Duchess wore a forest-green Emilia Wickstead coat dress (her favoured style of dress) whilst visiting the Irish Guards in Aldershot, England. She accessorized her look with a gold clover brooch that belonged to the Queen Mother, chocolate brown LK Bennett shoes and a matching Lock & Co. Hat.

Karolina Kurkova: The Czech model attended the Gala Spa Awards at the Brenner Park Hotel in Baden-Baden, Germany, on Saturday wearing an uber-sexy Elie Saab gown with a matching belt and matching green sandals.

Fergie: The singer was also in head-to-toe green. She wore a BCBG Max Azria dress to the Don-A-Matrix party in Beverly Hills, California. A green Adolfo Sanchez jacket and Prada flame sandals completed her look.

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s no surprise that celebs have been feeling inspired.

Red seems to be popping up everywhere on the red carpet this week: Heidi Klum, Taylor Swift, Serena Williams and Kristen Johnston have all donned the bold hue.

It’s not only red looks we’ve seen a surge in, but also red lips (think Taylor Swift and Miranda Kerr) and red shoes (think Paula Patton).

As soon as we hit December, it becomes a seasonal colour: Santa and his elves, stockings, candles and Christmas decorations.

Here are some red hot items to get you sizzling this season.

As you know, I’m not a fan of celebs wearing black pumps on the red carpet. They always seem like the safe choice and it’s frustrating to see the same heels on the red carpet time after time when so many more styles and colours are out there…thank god for Leighton Meester.

Recently celebs have been shunning the sometimes formal black pump in favour of a racier colour: red.

This month, red shoes have been popping up all over the red carpet, much like the red dress trend at the Emmys this weekend.

I only own a pair of red studded ballet flats, but these ladies have inspired me to seek out some red shoes.

I think I would wear red pumps to add some excitement to my look, like Sveva Alviti did during Venice Film Festival, rather than going full-on, head-to-toe, fire-engine red like Dita Von Teese.

Red gowns ruled the red carpet at the 2011 Emmy Awards last night.

Stars usually avoid this bold hue in fear of fading into the background, but each star stood out.

My favourites were most definitely Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan and Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad Couture.

Kate Winslet looked super chic in Elie Saab and Lea Michele opted for a scarlet Marchesa gown.

Adrianne Palicki in Dolce & Gabbana, Kathy Griffin in Oscar de la Renta, Angela Kinsey in Romona Keveza, Giuliana Rancic in Roberto Cavalli and Nancy O’Dell in Lorena Sarbu were all beautiful in the colour of the night.

Who was your favourite?

Even though we’re well into the summer season, celebrities have been favouring one trend that’s just as sizzling as the weather, leather dresses.

Typically leather dresses have been worn by celebrities in basic black (see Angelina Jolie) but this time around fiery shades of red, orange and burgundy have joined the roster.

Despite this being such a provocative trend, these stars show us there are different styles to choose from to suit your personal tastes.

Kristen Stewart kicked off the trend back in June at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards dazzling in a edgy Balmain mini dress with safety pins as embellishments.

Brooklyn Decker also went strapless in a Jay Ahr dress in a deep rouge colour to the 2011 ESPY Awards.

Despite the fact that she naturally oozes sex appeal, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was very sophisticated in her Marios Schwab lace trimmed leather halter dress.

Jennifer Aniston took a typically safe approach in Celine. Whilst Blake Lively and Elizabeth Banks opted for bold hues for their skin-tight leather minis.

The key to pulling off this look is definitely confidence. Choose a knee-length version for a more covered up look like Blake or Rosie and opt for simple accessories in neutral colours á la Jennifer and Elizabeth, if your style is more conservative.

However, if your personal style is more on the wild side go all out by adding a slick of red lipstick and sexy spiked pumps for a seriously sultry look.
