Starworks London Resort 2012 Press Preview

Yesterday I attended the Starworks London Resort 2012 press preview in London.

The showcased designers included Peter Pilotto, Nicholas Kirkwood, Lucy in Disguise, Marios Schwab, Jonathan Saunders, Tucker and Roksanda Ilincic.

Peter Pilotto continues to give us strong digital prints which buyers can’t snap up quickly enough. The collection also includes some colour-block pieces.

We don’t see the designer enough on the red carpet. Hopefully this Resort 2012 collection will be a huge hit with starlets.

I have attended a few press previews hosted by Starworks, but on this occasion I was presented with more Nicholas Kirkwood heels than ever before.

The most interesting pair were the wedges above which are part of a collaboration between Nicholas Kirkwood and Keith Haring. The shoe designer dedicated a one-off couture line to the Pop Artist after being inspired by his work.

Other pieces within the collection include the pearl accented pumps which continue to be a style favoured by buyers. This style was available as a peep-toe a few seasons ago.

I really loved the acid yellow range which had a neon pink overlay. I can imagine stars like Rihanna, Fergie and Katy Perry snapping these up.

I found the deliberate kink in some of the heels really interesting. You can see this on the turquoise lace ups below.

For those of you who don’t like high heels, Kirkwood has created some flat sandals, moccasins and metallic brogues.Read More…

Chanel Resort 2012 Press Preview

Last week I attended the first Chanel Resort press day in London.

The collection was the first resort collection to be presented back in early May at the Hotel du Cap, in Antibes on the French Riviera.

I got a chance to see a few select pieces including bags, shoes, jewelry, jackets, the thong boots, beachwear, day dresses, evening wear and pear embellished gown which would be perfect for the red carpet or a Gala.

The accessories – as always – caught my eye. I was particularly taken with the mini black top handle bag along with the array of sequin clutches.

I keep marveling at the attention to detail. I loved all the embellishments such as pearls, sequins, floral appliqués and beaded details. They really add a lot to the selected pieces.

Pearl accented necklaces with the trademark logo draped on the mannequins along with fine jewelry including watches, rings, cuffs and bracelets.

The room perfectly captured the essence of the French Riviera with pebbles stones and sea blue deck chairs.

So far only Clemence Poesy and Kirsten Dunst have worn looks from this collection.

I would love to see that ivory backless dress on Cate Blanchett.

Gucci Fall 2011 Press Preview

Gucci’s Fall 2011 press preview took place in London recently.

I was excited to see many of the stand out runway pieces like the fuchsia pink halter gown with the floral appliqués which was recently worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2011 Met Gala, and the colourful fedoras with the feather accents.

I immediately made a beeline for the bags and was taken by the ‘Gucci 1973’ collection above.

They will come in various exotic skins; Crocodile, lizard and ostrich. The colours are just as varied with the sizes ranging from a tiny tote to shoulder bags.

The detachable strap means that this bag can easily convert into a clutch.

Other highlights included cozy fur lined ankle boots, sexy studded stiletto’s, belts in a variety of colours, the New Jackie bag with a long detachable shoulder straps, black patent leather knee-high boots, T-bar suede sandals with gold detailing, oversized sunglasses, a tan ostrich bag with gold horse-bit detailing and some luscious blue snake-skin pumps.

Celebs have already fallen in love with the Gucci Fall 2011 collection.

We’ve seen 3 looks worn by Eva Mendes, Beyonce, Evan Rachel Wood and Jennifer Lopez.

I’m sure it’s won’t be long before muse Florence Welch and many other celebs are spotted wearing this collection.

The ‘1973’ bag is going to be a favourite. I can feel it.

Starworks Press Preview

Recently I attended the Starworks Press Preview in London.

I always make a beeline for the Nicholas Kirkwood section, but they featured many other brands including Atelier Swarovski, Hogan, Hudson, Jonathan Saunders, Julien Macdonald, Kate Spade, Marios Schwab, Peter Pilotto, Pollini, Roksanda Ilincic and Trilogy.

The new brands I was introduced to on this occasion were Mother of Pearl, Vilshenko, Claudia Schiffer and Lily Allen’s Lucy in Disguise.

The Lucy in Disguise Fall 2011 collection wasn’t allowed to be photographed, but I can tell you that Lily is expanding into ready to wear with a capsule collection for Fall. The vintage inspired collection included a gorgeous nude long sleeve dress and 40s style tea dresses.

Lucy in Disguise will launch in various stores worldwide this summer. In the UK it will be sold exclusively at Harvey Nichols and the Lucy In Disguise London store. Shopbop.com will stock the collection from June. Read More…

Salvatore Ferragamo Press Preview

Last week I took a close look at the Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2011 collection at a Press Preview which was held in London.

After seeing the collection on the runway during Milan Fashion Week, I was eager to see the accessories up close.

What I hadn’t spotted during the presentation is that the heels have a hounds-tooth sole which I thought was really clever way to brand the shoe collection.

An interesting fact I learned from this press preview is that Salvatore Ferragamo created his now trademark heels for Marilyn Monroe in the 50s. She owned around 40 pairs. It was these heels which help perfect her sexy wiggle.

Celebrities are huge fans of Ferragamo, especially the bags and shoes.

Angelina Jolie seems to wear Ferragamo shoes exclusively. Other fans include Freida Pinto and Eva Longoria.

The Ferragamo minaudière’s are equally popular. I can see the two in the picture below being carried on the red carpet during Cannes Film Festival next month.

The most interesting piece from this preview was the leather shoulder bag which had ostrich, snake-skin, python and crocodile pockets with gold clasps.

Other highlights include the animal print pieces and the fine jewelery.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 Press Preview

Yesterday I was honoured to be one of the few people invited to the Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 preview at their Bond Street store in London.

During my one-to-one I got to see the current Spring and Resort collection; spying many celebrity red carpet looks including Blake Lively’s amfAR New York Gala dress, Mila Kunis’ SAG Awards dress and Rachel Zoe’s Alexander McQueen folk tote.

The majority of the collection was on display with a beautiful mix of powerful pieces ranging from black vixens pieces accented with leather harnesses to snow white fur trimmed pieces.

Despite some of the hard edge to some of the pieces, I love the fairy-tale spirit.

McQueen was very specific about the type of celebrity who would wear his creations on the red carpet, and that will continue.

Noomi Rapace, Cate Blanchett and Anna Paquin are all fans of the brand. They have a mysterious aura about them which enables them to carry the pieces so well on the red carpet.

I can see them all wearing this collection, which also includes a few Cannes worthy gowns.

Seeing the collection up close was breath-taking because the attention to detail is incredible. It gave me an even greater appreciation of the collection and the hours which go into creating such iconic pieces.

The accessories include the runway shoes which will be going into production with the exclusion of the heel with the spike.

Skulls continue to be the signature feature on the bags and clutches. I love the skull above with the spiked Mohican.

Victoria Beckham Fall 2011

On Wednesday I also saw Victoria Beckham’s Fall 2011 dress, denim and sunglasses collection during the press day.

Victoria’s Fall 2010 is still my favourite collection of the six she’s produced so far, but this Fall 2011 collection runs a very close second.

I loved the loose silhouettes which makes many of the pieces more wearable for those – like me – who don’t attend fabulous cocktail parties every week.

If I’m going to spend money a VB look I would like to wear it more than once, and this collection will allow me to do that.

I loved the mixing of rich colours from the mustard yellows, burgundy’s, khaki, stone and reds.

From my pictures you will see that a few looks weren’t shown during the presentation like the two tone A-line dress and the black and white embellished gowns.

Those of you – like Katherine Jenkins – who love VBs body conscious dresses, you’ll be pleased to see two classic strapless VB fitted dresses within the mix for Fall. One of the tweed dresses has a beautiful silver metallic finish.

An interesting fact from this collection is that it holds the 100th dress made by VB.

It’s the yellow wrap dress above, which also comes in a khaki colour which I saw on the day. I’m sure many didn’t think VB would have a second season let alone make 100 dresses. But VB is used to proving people wrong.

I don’t think I’ve seen so many sunglasses in one place. Not even in the Sunglasses Hunt.

For a woman who’s hardly seen without sunglasses, it’s not surprising she produced such an extensive collection. New additions include rose gold and platinum shades. The collection also showcased fun colourful frames plus Victoria’s favourite butterfly glasses, which sell out the second they hit Net-A-Porter.

The denim’s have come a long way from their earlier ‘dvb’ days. They came in a variety of colours, lengths and washes with zippers as accents.

Favourites: Cashmere knot fitted dress, Cap sleeve pleat mini dress and the Halterneck pleat skirt dress

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Helen Mirren, Demi Moore, Kelly Ripa, Katherine Jenkins, Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana, Susan Sarandon, Rachel McAdams, Nicole Kidman, Rebecca Hall, Leighton Meester and Olga Kurylenko
