Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Yesterday I attended the McQ Alexander McQueen press preview in London.

Much like the mainline collection, the press preview consisted of both runway and commercial pieces.

Before the Fall 2012 presentation the McQ customer would not have shopped at Alexander McQueen and vice versa, so the aim of this current McQ collection is to bring McQ and Alexander McQueen closer together.

McQ will be the daywear to Alexander McQueen’s special-occasion pieces.

On display were the adorable colourful tutu dresses which are even more impressive up close with velvet, tulle and silk accented floral details.

I also love the moss-green dresses, skirts and coats with the textured embroidered details.

Cable-knit dresses, python bags, over-the-knee lace-up boots, leather opera gloves, leather jackets, skull-mofit sweaters, bird-print dresses and shorts plus military coats were on display.

Some of the commercial pieces were so close to the runway looks that the only way I could spot the difference was by touching the pieces, as slightly lighter fabrics are used for the commercial looks.

One of the first things I always ask PRs is who’s been requesting and who are they reaching out to. I don’t want to jinx anything so I won’t spill, but one person from my wish list has requested. Yay.

Those of you dying to get your hands on McQ will be delighted to know that a new stand-alone store will be opening on Dover Street sometime in July, with 4 storeys and 273 square metres of retail space offering womenswear, menswear and accessories.

For those who don’t live in London, you will be able to purchase the McQ Fall 2012 collection when it goes online at AlexanderMcQueen.com.

The day after the Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 presentation, I was lucky enough to see the collection up close at the resee in Paris. I went camera clicking crazy so make sure you check out all the pictures below.

Seeing the pieces up close makes the collection even more special, especially when I was told the time it takes to bring a Sarah Burton design to life – several weeks in some cases. They are also embroidered by hand.

I was most impressed with the gowns, as you can imagine. The shaved, cut organza is hand-massaged into shape, which helped make the looks pulsate on the runway.

Take a look at how amazing the blossoms are up close. Not until I attended the resee did I know that they were metal and enamel embroideries shaped into blossoms. Read more…

Whilst at the Chloé Pre-Fall 2012 press preview I also checked out the bags and shoes.

The bags came in all shapes and sizes, colourways, prints and textures including exotic skins, houndstooth, ostrich leather and shiny metallics.

The ‘Sally’ bag is updated for Pre-Fall with studded details, or a leather strap, plus a selection of hot red metallic’s which are perfect for the season.

I have a feeling that the nappa leather bags with the black handles and fringed details will become a celebrity favourite.

Some bags like the tan drawstring bag with gold hardware carries on the thick leather strap from the Spring 2012 collection.

For Pre-Fall the flats will have a scalloped edge, boots with be studded or accented with fur and the heeled loafers will have gold accents.

During Couture Fashion Week I was invited to view Chloé’s Pre-Fall 2012 press preview.

This is the second collection under Chloé’s new creative director, Clare Waight Keller, who was inspired by the images of 1960s and 1970s street-style photographer Garry Winogrand.

A lot of the pieces were volumized as the designer seemed to enjoy playing with proportions; the collection included cocoon-shaped coats, jackets, oversized checks and pants, boyfriend sweaters and boxy blazers.

These androgynous silhouettes were presented alongside more feminine pleated skirts and silk blouses, some with playful ruffles or embellished bibs.

Sharp tailoring was evident throughout, but the perfect simplicity of Chloé was truly shown via the two white gowns which have Kate Bosworth’s and Rooney Mara’s names on.

Many of the pieces have a classic, timeless quality to them which make for perfect staples.

My favourite looks included the yellow pastel oversized blazer and the coral pleated dress.

The KCD press day was full of lustful Spring 2012 pieces starting with the Balmain collection which had several studded, embellished pieces that have already taken the red carpet courtesy of Gemma Arterton.

Leather vests, jackets, shoulder bags, clutches and belts were showcased alongside the denim pieces with gold appliqués.

As a huge fan of Prabal Gurung, I was very excited to see his collection up close, especially the dresses worn by Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Seyfried, plus those sexy Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung heels. Read more…
