Red Carpet Fashion Awards

The day after the Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 presentation, I was lucky enough to see the collection up close at the resee in Paris. I went camera clicking crazy so make sure you check out all the pictures below.

Seeing the pieces up close makes the collection even more special, especially when I was told the time it takes to bring a Sarah Burton design to life – several weeks in some cases. They are also embroidered by hand.

I was most impressed with the gowns, as you can imagine. The shaved, cut organza is hand-massaged into shape, which helped make the looks pulsate on the runway.

Take a look at how amazing the blossoms are up close. Not until I attended the resee did I know that they were metal and enamel embroideries shaped into blossoms. Read more…

Whilst at the Chloé Pre-Fall 2012 press preview I also checked out the bags and shoes.

The bags came in all shapes and sizes, colourways, prints and textures including exotic skins, houndstooth, ostrich leather and shiny metallics.

The ‘Sally’ bag is updated for Pre-Fall with studded details, or a leather strap, plus a selection of hot red metallic’s which are perfect for the season.

I have a feeling that the nappa leather bags with the black handles and fringed details will become a celebrity favourite.

Some bags like the tan drawstring bag with gold hardware carries on the thick leather strap from the Spring 2012 collection.

For Pre-Fall the flats will have a scalloped edge, boots with be studded or accented with fur and the heeled loafers will have gold accents.

During Couture Fashion Week I was invited to view Chloé’s Pre-Fall 2012 press preview.

This is the second collection under Chloé’s new creative director, Clare Waight Keller, who was inspired by the images of 1960s and 1970s street-style photographer Garry Winogrand.

A lot of the pieces were volumized as the designer seemed to enjoy playing with proportions; the collection included cocoon-shaped coats, jackets, oversized checks and pants, boyfriend sweaters and boxy blazers.

These androgynous silhouettes were presented alongside more feminine pleated skirts and silk blouses, some with playful ruffles or embellished bibs.

Sharp tailoring was evident throughout, but the perfect simplicity of Chloé was truly shown via the two white gowns which have Kate Bosworth’s and Rooney Mara’s names on.

Many of the pieces have a classic, timeless quality to them which make for perfect staples.

My favourite looks included the yellow pastel oversized blazer and the coral pleated dress.

The KCD press day was full of lustful Spring 2012 pieces starting with the Balmain collection which had several studded, embellished pieces that have already taken the red carpet courtesy of Gemma Arterton.

Leather vests, jackets, shoulder bags, clutches and belts were showcased alongside the denim pieces with gold appliqués.

As a huge fan of Prabal Gurung, I was very excited to see his collection up close, especially the dresses worn by Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Seyfried, plus those sexy Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung heels. Read more…

Karla Otto’s Spring 2012 press preview in London was heavenly for me.

Aside from the breathtaking pieces from Emilio Pucci, Thakoon, Vionnet and Valentino, there were shoes, glorious shoes everywhere.

Seeing the many styles on display, I have to wonder yet again why celebs stick to the same brands or the same styles.

Sergio Rossi certainly took things up several notches with a colourful collection of ombre sandals, floral-accented heels and some neon-coloured laser-cut sandals which are begging to be worn by Fergie or Katy Perry.

Whilst at the press preview I was introduced to Shamballa jewels. Read more…

The Gucci Spring 2012 press preview was one of my favourites.

Inspired by the early twentieth century art-deco era, Frida Giannini showcased glamour, Milanese style, so to see the collection up close was an honour.

I got to see all those gorgeous flapper-esque drop-waist dresses which we’ve seen on Zoe Saldana and Camilla Belle up close.

The dresses are very heavy, which is not really surprising considering the gold chains, bugle beads and sequin details that make up these stunning dresses.

Alongside the dresses were the heavenly accessories.

I saw the black and gold t-bar ankle-strap sandals which have become very popular with celebs like Salma Hayek and Charlize Theron. Seeing the gold ankle-strap sandals up close, I discovered that the detail was in fact a panther’s head.

Crocodile clutches, shoulder bags with gold chains, clutches with gold tassels, belts with gold buckles, snake-print shoes and jewelry were all on display.

You can see more close-ups of the collection below. Read more…
