Celebrities Love…Tuxedo Dressing

Celebrities Love Tuxedo Inspiration

Ever since Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic ‘le smoking’ entered the sartorial scene in the ’60s, the women’s tuxedo has captivated fashion darlings with its androgynous implications and sultry, structured appeal.

Now a women’s wear classic, the tux shows no signs of exiting the style vocabulary with the celebrity set embracing it at every turn. Just recently, a flush of starlets have debuted new reinterpretations of the tux-inspired silhouette, proving it’s not solely relegated to the traditional suit.

Gabrielle Union combined two trends—the tux and transparency—and made an instantly good impression with her Akris Fall 2015 tuxedo-style, side-slit dress with sheer detailing that added a seductive softness to the tailored sleekness of the look.

Another spin on the suit came with Nina Dobrev’s Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2015 tuxedo romper, where she amped up the charm meter by pairing it with a confetti-print blouse for a fun, youthful effect.

As for Sophia Bush, she showed just how sexy a suit can be by donning a tuxedo mini dress featuring a plunge neckline anchored by satin lapels. The result was nothing short of sophisticated glamour mixed with contemporary edge.

Step aside, guys. These tuxes are made for the girls.

Celebrities Love…Culottes

Celebrities Love Culottes

The culottes club is rapidly growing in membership, adding new converts nearly every day who are strutting out chic looks in praise of the pants.

An underlying trend on the scene for more than a year, it’s safe to say that the voluminous, wide-legged trousers have found their footing amongst a flock of style darlings who have been none too shy in taking them for a spin.

Something of an acquired taste for many, culottes are all about the right proportions and sharp, clean tailoring, which is worth its weight in gold when it comes to this modern version of a midi.

Even bright magenta culottes can achieve sophisticated standards, as Keke Palmer shows in her Solace London ensemble, where she wears the high-waisted, structured pants with a simple cropped top for a look that’s packed with panache.

Playing with pattern instead of colour, Ashley Madekwe wore a Self-Portrait pair that boasted slightly less volume but no less boldness in the checquerboard print and the cutout, asymmetrical top.

An even breezier rendition, Alicia Vikander’s Rosetta Getty look displayed the ultimate in simple, feminine elegance—with a mod edge.

Are you convinced by these culottes?

Celebrities Love…Max Mara’s Whitney Bag

Celebrities Love Max Mara's Whitney Bag

Architecture, art, and fashion frequently collide, and such fusion is quite literally the case in the latest celebrity handbag crush.

The Max Mara ‘Whitney’ top handle tote is nothing short of museum quality, serving as not only arm candy but also arm architecture. Max Mara teamed with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop to create the bag that is directly inspired by the sleek, sophisticated design of the new Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

The formal, structured piece, which reflects the modern, ribbed museum building, still easily transitions from cocktail party to casual off-duty style for the utmost versatility. Sarah Jessica Parker, Gigi Hadid, and Karlie Kloss have all been spotted carrying the bag, which carves out a signature, appropriate niche amongst both stiletto and sneaker ensembles.

The ‘Whitney’ is currently available in three colours including black, tan, and bordeaux, plus what was an exclusive collector’s limited-edition, light blue-grey hue that likewise mirrored the museum’s façade.

Kylie Minogue Loves….Dolce & Gabbana

Kylie Minogue Loves Dolce & Gabbana

Kylie Minogue has recently been summering in Italy, where her love for all things Dolce & Gabbana has only become more pronounced. In what must be close to a record, she made not one, not two, but four outfit changes in the space of one day: Monday (July 13).

The beauty of her recent quartet of Dolce & Gabbana ensembles is that they look all the better for being in their natural habitat of the sublime Italian backdrop. If nothing else, she’s certainly inspiring a heavy case of wanderlust—with a side of wardrobe envy.

Look 1: The songstress was spotted leaving her hotel at the Miramare in Portofino, Italy, on her way to the annual Dolce & Gabbana Summer event, where she’s serving as a special guest. Classically chic with a feminine whim, her Dolce & Gabbana white macramé lace midi dress was at the height of easy summer charm. She styled the look in appropriately vivid form with a blue-and-white patterned tote, inspired by traditional Italian pottery, and matching sandals.

Look 2: For her second look of the day, Kylie matched the tote’s motif with her Dolce & Gabbana printed bikini while soaking up the sun and relaxing on the Dolce & Gabbana mega yacht, Regina d’Italia, in Portofino. I love the nude macramé lace cover-up, as it’s beautifully constructed with an air of breezy, boho inspiration.

Look 3: Accompanied by a very special lunch guest, she headed out to the midday meal with Domenico Dolce by her side while vacationing in Portofino. The bohemian spirit was fully alive and well in her Dolce & Gabbana printed empire-waist maxi dress that featured a vibrant collage of scarf prints. Statement-making as it was, the dress also possessed an air of laid-back charisma—as any vacation wardrobe should.

Look 4
: Her final look also embraced the art of intricate pattern, as she greeted fans while attending the Dolce and Gabbana Event in Santa Margherita, Italy. I’m not sure the printed platform sandals would have been my first choice for this supremely girly frock, as the two patterns were more of a clash than a complement. But the rest of the look certainly had an adorable flair.

Kate Hudson Loves…Sophie Hulme ‘Box Tote & Alexander McQueen Khaki Skull Tattoo Scarf

Kate Hudson Loves Sophie Hulme 'Box Tote & Alexander McQueen Khaki Skull Tattoo Scarf

Kate Hudson’s constant companion of late has been her Sophie Hulme ‘Box’ tote adorned with an Alexander McQueen khaki skull tattoo scarf. The square black bag with gold hardware conveys a sense of sharply structured sophistication with the scarf adding a flutter of tough-girly edge—no matter the ensemble.

Look 1: While out and about in Los Angeles, California last week, the actress wore an adorable—and super-short—Lovers + Friends ‘Gardenia’ blue romper with flip-flops for a casual, sunny off-duty look. The polished Sophie Hulme bag may seem an unusual, out-of-the-box pairing with this hyper-youthful and fun romper, but Kate shows us here that this purse really can be taken anywhere.

Look 2: The actress again oozed with the casual fun of summer in a white Topshop cord zip dress paired with Carvela Kurt Geiger ‘Gerry’ platform sandals while in New York City on Thursday (July 9). Of course, the ‘Box’ was right by her side, which she likewise again wore with the shoulder strap.

Look 3: On her way to the Today show on Friday (July 10) in New York City, she debuted a Christopher Kane emerald lurex top and lamé pleated skirt from the Fall 2015 collection with Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ nude pumps. The ‘Box’ bag was a seamlessly perfect addition to this look, which I loved not only for its rich jewel tones that were made summer-luxe appropriate, but also for the styling—most particularly the quirky round Sunday Somewhere ‘Yetti’ sunglasses that added a final punch of chic attitude.
