Met Gala Beauty Trend: Top Notch Top Knots

While there may have been a wide range of fashion looks on the red carpet, the top knot was a major mane trend at the 2017 Met Gala as many celebrities chose to translate Rei Kawakubo’s architectural designs into sky high buns.

Celeb hair stylist Florido Basallo gave Hailey Baldwin major princess vibes to pair with a top knot paired with a veil to pair with her Carolina Herrera soft pink frock.

To go with the most on-theme look of the night, Rihanna paired the Commes des Garçons looks with a sleek top knot and full bangs by hair stylist Yusef Williams.

Kate Hudson debut a brand new icy blonde top knot by hair stylist Peter Gray on the Met Gala’s red carpet as she donned a Stella McCartney dress.

Reese Witherspoon’s Met Gala top knot by Adir Abergel featured a bit of metal to keep her tresses in place.

Priyanka Chopra sported a mile high top knot to go with the mile long train of her Ralph Lauren look.

Hailee Steinfeld’s top knot was a combination of multiple top knots and slicked to the center of her head to pair with her extra sharp winged liner.

Get the Look: Jessica Chastain’s Whimsical Met Gala Braid

Celebrity hair stylist for Moroccanoil Renato Campora created a soft, whimsical braid on Jessica Chastain for the 2017 Met Gala that accentuated the actress’ romantic pale yellow, off the shoulder Prada Gown.

To achieve a hairstyle as regal as the frock, Renato used a dime-sized amount of Moroccanoil Treatment to Jessica’s mane to provide a base for the style, followed by Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse to layer on to the foundation and create volume.

Renato then used the Moroccanoil 35 MM Boar Bristle Round Brush to blow dry the actress’ tresses straight. One the hair was dry, he used a 1.5 inch curling iron to create texture, natural movement and add radiant shine.

He then created a loose braid at the nape of the neck and used a bobby pin to tuck the tail end of the braid underneath in order to create more volume.

To set the look, the Renato used Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to give the style long-lasting hold and shine.

Get The Look: Hailee Steinfeld’s Oscar Double Ballerina Buns

Hailee Steinfeld was one of our favourites at the 2017 Oscars. Though her look was simple it also had an air of elegance and maturity beyond her 20 years.

Her Ralph & Russo Couture gown was sheer elegance, and when she turned we were entreated to two ballerina buns down the back of her head that sat atop each other. They mirrored the two rosettes on the back of her gown.

Celeb stylist Chris Appleton said that he took inspiration from her frock in order to create this sleek updo style. “We went for a bold style to compliment the mixture of classic and modern vibe given from her gown.”

Here’s how to create the look.

Prep clean wet hair with TONI & GUY Prep Heat Protection Mist. Section your hair and blow dry it backwards and away from your face using a paddle brush.

Once dry, section off the top half of the hair and gather the lower half into a ponytail at the back of the head.

Then apply TONI & GUY Style Spray Wax throughout the top section for a high-shine effect and begin curling hair using a 1-inch curling iron.
Once your hair is cooled, gently brush the curls out and join to the existing ponytail.

Wrap sections of hair from the pony tail in a clockwise motion above and below, twisting into a flower shape. Secure with pins.

Set the look with TONI & GUY Medium Hold Hairspray.

Get The Look: Dakota Johnson’s ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ Fifty Shades Darker Braid

Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend created Dakota Johnson’s amazing hairstyle at for the LA premiere of ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ last night.

He said, “For the Fifty Shades Darker premiere, we really wanted the focus to be on Dakota’s gorgeous dress. We decided to keep her hair out of her face by doing a long, textured braid in the back.”

“I started by spraying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray to her damp roots and then blew her hair out with my mixed bristle round brush.”

“Once her hair was dry, I set the top mohawk section with duck bill clips to create volume. I then sprayed my paddle brush with Dove Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo and vigorously brushed all of her hair in the back for volume and texture.

“Once her hair had the perfect texture, I went in and twisted uneven sections of her locks into braids and twists. As I went along, I used dark bobby pins to keep the loose bits secured.”

“When I was happy with the plait, I secured it with a few Blax elastics. I then released the mohawk section from the duck bill clips and used a bit of Dove Absolute Curls Crème Serum to get a bit of shine on the front.”

“I topped this look off by pulling her front pieces back and securing it with dark scunci bobby pins. The result is a perfectly imperfect play on a plaited textured look.”

Get The Look: Kate Bosworth’s ‘The Art Of More’ Grecian-Inspired Braid

Kate Bosworth's 'The Art Of More' Grecian-Inspired Braid

Celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager worked with Kate Bosworth for SAG Foundation’s Conversation on ‘The Art of More’ in Los Angeles last week.

“For Kate’s look, we wanted to do a ‘cool girl’ braid. Something a bit different, but not too flashy,” said Bridget.

Here’s how to get the look.

Bridget started by giving Kate a wavy, ‘bed head’ look. She added a little Sachajuan Ocean Mist, gave it a rough blow-dry, and curl-wanded with a T3 Whirl Trio. That’s all you need for lived-in waves.

She started by creating a deep side part, then Dutch-braided the hair down the side of her head, following her hairline. The idea was to have the braid continuing its way down, just behind the ear and then wrapping around the nape. She secured the braid with a bobby pin.

To finish the look, she used Kevin Murphy Powder Puff to create some volume and texture in the braid as she pulled it apart for a more lived-in feel.
