2017 Art of Elysium HEAVEN Gala

The Art of Elysium celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala themed Stevie Wonder’s HEAVEN, hosted at Red Studios on January 7, 2017 in Los Angeles, California, where a wonderland of looks took to the red carpet.

Camilla Belle: As the evening’s honoree, Camilla Belle took my breath away in her Schiaparelli Fall 2016 Couture gown that had the fanciful whimsy of a skirt embroidered with colourful creatures and the sharp elegance of an architectural bodice. Her sculptural top knot was the perfect finish.

Hailey Baldwin: The starlet definitely turned heads as she left no feather unturned in her extravagant orange Jonathan Simkhai Resort 2017 cutout creation paired with matching sandals, no less.

2017 Image Maker Awards

Marie Claire’s Image Maker Awards 2017 were held at Catch LA on January 10, 2017 in West Hollywood, California, celebrating the makeup artists, hairstylists, and others behind Hollywood’s hottest beauties.

Jessica Pare: The actress worked a geometric Camilla and Marc Fall 2017 tunic-and-pants combo that prioritized casual comfort. I’m glad she brought a more exciting cherry lip stain out to play.

Janelle Monae: There is not a doubt that Janelle was having plenty of fun with her sparkly Thom Browne Spring 2017 ensemble that put a whole new meaning to tuxedo dress. I cannot say that I loved it—or her bobby pin-spiked hair, for that matter. But what I did love was her beautiful makeup, with the subtle blue under-eye shadow and glossy nude lip.

Jessica Alba: The cutouts in Jessica Alba’s suede Balmain jacket made all the difference in the world to elevate this Spring 2017 look.

2016 National Board of Review

The National Board of Review Gala was hosted on January 4, 2017 in New York City and attended by a namedrop-worthy guest list.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Graphic playfulness and an asymmetrical silhouette kept the actress’s Marni Resort 2017 dress fresh, but I would have loved to see a thin belt to provide some waist contouring.

Naomie Harris: Taking the plunge, Naomie nixed a dress in favour of a Brandon Maxwell Spring 2017 wide-leg jumpsuit that moved beautifully when she walked.

Amy Adams: Lovely in lace, the actress wore a Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 embroidered dress that ultimately left me with the urge to cut off the bell sleeves while also securing a more nude underlining for the bodice.

2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala

The 28th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards Gala was held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on January 2, 2017 in Palm Springs, California, where a host of stars got the year started in style.

Kirsten Dunst: The actress glistening wearing a custom Ralph & Russo Couture gown, however, I had a craving for something to really make this look pop more—even brushing her hair back might have done the job to show off those statement earrings.

Ruth Negga: A newcomer on the scene, Ruth Negga had a princess moment in her whimsically embroidered Valentino Spring 2017 gown, which featured a fanciful innocence despite the sheer transparency factor.

6th Annual AACTA International Awards

The 6th annual AACTA International Awards were hosted at Avalon Hollywood on January 6, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. The AACTAs recognise and honour outstanding achievement in the Australian film and television industry, so it is no surprise that a few Aussie beauties took to the red carpet for the event.

Nicole Kidman: The statuesque actress wore a Rochas Spring 2017 tea-length dress. I love how she breathed some life into the moodier dress, bringing out the pink waistband with her vibrant lip colour. The main issue I take with the look is in the bodice area, as it appears as if she has a ribbon of tulle wrapped around her waist in cummerbund form thus cutting off her chest.

Isla Fisher: Another auburn-haired Aussie beauty, Isla Fisher lit up the red carpet with an incredibly sunny Monique Lhuillier golden-yellow gown featuring Asian-influenced, lacy floral embroidery. I applaud her attempt to bring a ray of sunshine to the proceedings, however, I found the look to sadly be on the more dated side. Add to it the pair of rather unfortunate platform sandals that occasionally peeked through the too-long gown, and I wanted to shield my eyes from the glare.

Emma Stone: Managing to effectively toe the line between adorable and badass, the ‘La La Land’ actress wore a Gucci dress that took the idea of the LBD to another level. The silhouette of the tiered ruffle frock may have been sweet, but the cage shoulder detail and the embellished bow and collar had just the right amount of rebellious edge to ensure a dramatic and not-too-dainty finish.
