Chadwick Boseman In Versace – 2018 Met Gala

Normally, we save the menfolk for their own roundup, but as per usual, Chadwick Boseman was back at it with another superlative look at the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City; one that was worthy of its own dedicated post.

No better choice than Versace on an evening such as this, as Donatella Versace was a co-host and the label’s cross motif was made for the religiously focused theme.

I always love a cape, so I’ve been going crazy over the caped looks tonight. But, it’s a rare occasion that we see one worn in menswear—and worn so magnificently.

Leave it to Chadwick.

Bronzed Christian Louboutin Homme shoes and rows of Bulgari rings completed his resplendent, kingly look.

Yara Shahidi In Chanel Couture – 2018 Met Gala

Yara Shahidi thoroughly charmed me from the minute I saw her at the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City.

Without being too literal, she portrayed a certain blissful, angelic quality in this Chanel Spring 2018 Couture ruffled tulle, petticoat frock.

And, it was an absolute delight.

Her floral fascinator and Christian Louboutin heels completed the sweet ode to youthful adoration.

Rooney Mara In Givenchy Couture – 2018 Met Gala

Rooney Mara exchanged her affinity for the colours of black and white for a heavenly sky-blue hue at the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City.

You may remember this Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture gown as the one that Fashion Critic wanted to see on Cate Blanchett at Cannes.

It would have been a knockout on Cate, of course. But, I suppose if there was going to be a time and a place for someone else to wear it first, I’m glad it was Rooney here.

The scintillating, caped number perfectly fit within her austere aesthetic while reflecting the theme of the evening.

Solange Knowles In Iris van Herpen Couture – 2018 Met Gala

Before attending the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City, Solange Knowles polled her fans as to which of five looks she should wear.

Now, I would have never put this avant-garde Iris van Herpen Fall 2012 Couture in the same category as tonight’s ‘Heavenly Bodies’ theme, as the PVC-sculpted look was far more galactic and space-agey to me.

But, even despite the equally edgy over-the-knee boots, Solange molded the look into an image with religious undertones, given the addition on the nun’s habit and face halo.

Did it work for you?

Emilia Clarke In Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda – 2018 Met Gala

Emilia Clarke was one of the beauties offering a painterly homage to the 2018 Met Gala on Monday (May 7) in New York City.

Her intricately embroidered Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda medieval-influenced gown featured portraits of cherubs to check the box on the ‘Heavenly Bodies’ component.

I understand why she added the rosiness of the pink blush to her cheeks, but I think she could have done without it and just let the crimson lip and her embellished crown accessorise the look.
