Claire-Danes-In-Oscar-de-la-Renta-2014-Met-Gala

Claire Danes looked lovely as she made her way down the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The actress wore a color-blocked satin and velvet gown from Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2014 collection.

I absolutely love the unexpected color combination going on here, and the juxtaposition of the two fabrics is divine.

Also a big win for me? How completely understated the whole thing is.

While I do wish that Claire had opted for the full high/low hemline effect that was shown on the runway, the star looks stunning.

A loose updo and earrings serve as the only accents here, which is a great move–understated elegance all the way.

Taylor-Swift-In-Oscar-de-la-Renta-2014-Met-Gala

Taylor Swift struck a pose on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The singer and red carpet darling wore a custom Oscar de la Renta gown of pale pink embellished satin accented with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Old Hollywood glamour is a signature for Ms. Swift, and it’s the perfect styling for her gown–the bright red lip, the cat eye, the deep side part and curls–all perfectly on point.

On a night like tonight it’s hard to shine, but Taylor certainly does a good job of turning heads with this classically beautifully look.

Michelle-Williams-In-Alexander-McQueen-2014-Met-Gala

Michelle Williams joined the fashion elite on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The actress wore a shimmering Louis Vuitton dress from the Fall 2014 collection.

While there is no denying this dress is gorgeous, I can’t help but feel it is a bit lackluster next to some of the works-of-art that are going down the red carpet alongside Michelle.

Her coral lips and cheeks, chic bob and classic black pumps and clutch keep the entire look chic and understated.

What do you think? Do you appreciate Michelle’s simplistic approach to the night, or do you wish she had really wow’d us?

"Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals

Bee Shaffer joined many of the biggest names in fashion and Hollywood on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

Anna Wintour’s daughter wore a custom Alexander McQueen in pale blue washed duchesse satin with a dramatic tulle mermaid-inspired skirt.

The cool-as-ice color, the asymmetry, and the total drama here make this a stunning addition to a night full of high fashion.

I do wish that Bee had opted for something a bit more dramatic with her hair, but perhaps the simple chignon was the way to go to make sure the dress got all the attention.

Nicole-Richie-in-Donna-Karan-Atelier-2014-Met-Gala

Nicole Richie struck a cool pose on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The edgy star wore a Donna Karan Atelier custom-dyed, Sage backless, velvet gown with tiny asymmetrical straps that criss-cross around the back.

To accent the look, she wore a Zagliani clutch, Christian Louboutin shoes and delicate jewelry from her own line, House of Harlow 1960, and hipster favorite Catbird.

While I love this color, I can’t help but feel like there is just a little bit too much skin showing for this type of occasion (though Nicole pulls it off without being entirely vulgar).

While at first I wasn’t thrilled with the messy coiffing of her purple-hued hair, I actually think the styling is a good match for her overall look.

What do you think? Right on point, or a little too clingy and see-through?
