Ruby Rose In Burberry – 2017 Met Gala

Ruby Rose attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The actress let her Burberry gown shine without accessorizing it with anything beyond her extensive tattoos.

Am I crazy, or is this gown just a little too run-of-the-mill for the Met Gala? I feel like on any other red carpet, I would look upon it much more favorably, but it is striking me as just a bit blasé here.

Maybe it just feels too demure against Ruby’s tattoo sleeves and endlessly cool hair?

I need your opinions! Yay or nay on this look, on this night?

Claire Foy In Erdem – 2017 Met Gala

Claire Foy attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

For the occasion, she wore a bespoke Erdem gown with a striking floral print.

I really love this springy print, and the color tone against her porcelain skin. I also love the unique sleeve length and the translation of a very prevalent streetwear trend to a red carpet gown.

Of course whether this falls in line with the night’s theme is, once again, a different story, but Claire looks gorgeous, and I’m not going to fight her on it!

Keeping a fresh face with that bright pop of red on the lips is not only beautiful with Claire’s flawless skin, it’s also a great pairing with the print.

Amy Schumer In Zac Posen – 2017 Met Gala

Amy Schumer went head-to-head with the fashion elite at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The comedienne wore a custom Zac Posen gown sans any jewelry of any kind.

Oh, Amy, Amy, Amy. I want to like your approach to fashion. I really do. But once again, I just can’t get behind what you’re giving us!

I am quite frankly shocked that this is a Zac Posen gown. Time and again we’ve seen his masterful creations, but this is simply a mess. The sheen of the fabric makes it scream ‘garbage bag’, and while I typically love a good cape, the rose detailing just feels dated and uninspired.

Am I being too harsh on the Amy/Zac duo, or do you agree with my harsh criticism?

Michelle Monaghan In Paco Rabanne – 2017 Met Gala

Michelle Monaghan attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

She wore Paco Rabanne Fall 2017 gown with a Lee Savage clutch.

I am a huge fan of Michelle’s fashion choices, and this doesn’t change that one bit. She always seems to push the boundaries of fashion convention, but ever so slightly–nothing too shocking. This gown does the exact same, and is giving me major alien queen vibes, and that is a good thing in my book!

Pairing that chainmail-esque fabric with a simple and sleek chignon and understated makeup is superb.

Reese Witherspoon In Mugler – 2017 Met Gala

Reese Witherspoon hit the blue carpet of the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The A-Lister wore a custom Mugler gown, which, unfortunately ages her a bit. I would be thrilled to see this gown on Jane Fonda or Helen Mirren, but for Reese, it just feels really mature.

I do love the striking shade or blue, and the asymmetrical sleeve drama is quite visually stimulating.

Overall, this definitely doesn’t push the fashion envelope very hard, but considering how traditionally Reese typically dresses, I think we have to give her props for getting ever-so-slightly outrageous.

Nicki Minaj In H&M – 2017 Met Gala

Nicki Minaj went for broke at the 2017 Met Gala with a truly over-the-top look on Monday (May 1).

The singer wore a custom H&M gown, which left many people saying, really? H&M?

Here I have been complaining about people not leaning in to the night’s theme enough, and now we have Nicki, and I’m still not happy. There is just way too much going on here, and I find it to be very tastelessly executed.

The asymmetry, the kimono-inspired detailing, the beading, the train, the belt–I am super confused. Is she a super hero? A video game vixen? A lingerie model? It’s all too much, and I simply can’t stand it.

Let me hear from you: Am I being too harsh on this get-up?
