Style Spotlight: Elisa Nalin

You know the stereotype that fashion girls love black, don’t smile, and think fashion is très important and no laughing matter? Well Elisa Nalin has proven time and again that the above stereotype is also false. A lover of colour who is always ready to crack a smile for the camera, Nalin — a Paris-based stylist and style consultant — is the ultimate when it comes to fashion’s favorite street style darling.

Elisa seems to interpret every major trend with ease, so it’s no surprise that her talents are sought after by Dazed & Confused, La Perla, Le Bonmarché and numerous other industry heavyweights.

Elisa’s style aesthetic is evident from her list of favorite designers, which includes Dries van Noten, Pierre Hardy and Christian Louboutin. But don’t take our word for it.  Everything you need to know about this Italy-born fashionista’s style can be found on today’s bevy of street style sites.

Freida Pinto In Contrarian New York – Flaunt Magazine Denim Issue Party

Yesterday, Freida Pinto hosted theFlaunt Magazine and Agave Denim ‘All Wraped Up In Blue’ dinner at Sherbourne in Los Angeles.

The stunning actress wore a Contrarion New York top and A-line skirt, topped off with a pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps.

It’s always hard to find fault with someone as stunning as Pinto, but this ensemble isn’t doing her justice.

The gorgeous red tone of her Contrarion skirt is played down by the black and white top, and the two components of the look fail to achieve any kind of harmony. The bow on her top only makes the rest of the outfit appear costume-y and thus, her gorgeous, classic shoes are lost in translation.

The one good thing I can say about this look is that Pinto left the jewelry at home — with two strong competing colours, it would have been distracting to throw adornments into the mix.

If Pinto did want to do red and black, a top sans bow would have been preferable, and I would have liked to see a more feminine cut with some shoulder details to add a little intrigue into the mix.

Do you agree? Or are you a fan of Freida Pinto’s look?

Hailee Steinfeld In Marc Jacobs – ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ New York Premiere

Hailee Steinfeld proved herself to be a true fashion darling in the making yesterday evening at the premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in New York City.

The actress sported a colourful floral sequin dress from Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2013 collection and looked adorable as she smiled and flaunted the large three-dimensional bow at the top of her age-appropriate and fresh ensemble.

When this look was presented it was of a longer, ankle-grazing length, which I would have preferred in this case.

While the look has a youthful air, a full-length dress would have mixed in an element of drama. Steinfeld’s updo and simple makeup, on the other hand, are refreshing nods to her young age — the starlet is only fifteen, after all.

Black chunky wedges and a black plexy clutch from the same collection prevent the dress from seeming too dainty and complete what I think is a winning look.

Nicholas Kirkwood Pre-Spring 2013 On Moda Operandi

What do Blake Lively, Lea Michele and Jessica Biel have in common?

They, and every other woman on this planet, share a love for the shoe genius Nicholas Kirkwood. And who can blame us? His shoes are more than an accessory, they tell a story all on their own.

The designer’s Pre-Spring 2013 trunkshow is available on ModaOperandi.com right now and can be snatched up until July 23.

Boasting an array of colors that start with sorbet inspired blues and oranges and end with neon pink and turquoise, Kirkwood has certainly outdone himself this time around.

Every piece is structural and has the same playful flair make Kirkwood’s designs distinct. But what distinguishes his most recent collection is that every shoe is absolutely wearable, and not just if you are one of the lucky few sitting front row at fashion week or strutting down a red carpet.

I’m partial to the peep toe sandal in a metallic pink with pink and black design around the back because it is accompanied by the blessed ankle strap — a trend that I’m determined to make the most of while I still can.

If you want to snag your own piece of shoe heaven, pre-order from the Nicholas Kirkwood Resort 2013 collection on ModaOperandi.com now.

Zoe Kravitz In Emilio Pucci – ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ New York Premiere

Whenever Zoe Kravitz wears for a red carpet appearance, I instantly devote my full attention to this established fashionite, which is exactly what I did when pictures appeared of her at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York for the premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

Unforunately, the trusty Kravitz failed to hit a home run this time around.

Clad in a black silk and mesh cocktail sheath from Emilio Pucci’s Fall 2012 collection, Kravitz’s look struggled to find its identity.

While the top of the dress certainly leaves nothing to the imagination, the below-the-knee hemline is modest and contradicts the risquée design above it.

I can usually forgive many a fashion mistake if there is a good shoe involved. Unfortunately, her see-through Alexander Wang ‘Sabine’ pumps does not a best dressed nominee make. A towering heel could have compensated for the longer length of the dress — in fact, if there was ever a time for a monster-sized Christian Louboutin heel, this was it

Kravitz’s red nails and black clutch, on the other hand, were perfect accessories for this look, and complemented her cropped, choppy haircut.

Do you think Kravitz’s look was a miss? Or are you putting her on your best dressed list?

Jessica Alba In Salvatore Ferragamo – 2012 Giffoni Film Festival

Jessica Alba stopped and posed while attending the 2012 Giffoni Film Festival in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.

Alba payed homage to Italian designers by wearing a head to toe look created by perhaps the most iconic of them all — Salvatore Ferragamo.

The actress glowed in a sweet white wrap dress accented with a brown satin trim. To offset the baby doll nature of her frock, Alba buckled on a pair of Ferragamo’s ankle strap heels.

Her simple hoop earrings and unassuming updo let the ensemble speak for itself and alluded to the easy, California girl dressing that makes Alba one of our favorite no-fuss fashionistas.

My only wish? That she had chosen a bracelet or cocktail ring to add a little formality to the look. But do you agree? Or are you happy with Alba’s accessory free simplicity?

Emmy Rossum In Ralph Lauren – ‘Shameless’ Panel: Comic-Con 2012

Emmy Rossum participated in a discussion at the ‘Shameless’ panel during Comic-Con 2012 on Saturday, which was held in San Diego, California.

The actress gave a new meaning to the power suit with her baby blue shorts ensemble — complete with a matching tie — from Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2012 collection.

While I think the suit looks adorable on Rossum and complements her sweet, comedy-driven character, her hair, which is pulled back rather severely, makes the look a little too board room ready for an event like Comic-Con.

Her shoes work well with the suit — they don’t take away from the statement made by the clothing and add height so that her legs aren’t lost in the boxy cut of the shorts.

Had she worn her hair down and vamped up her jewelry choice a little, I think Rossum’s look would have gone from appearing to be straight off the runway to something that she had put her own stamp of personal style on.

Do you think Rossum could have done something to improve this look? Or do you think she got it right the first time around?
