Tessa Thompson In Naeem Khan – ‘Annihilation’ LA Premiere

For me, Tessa Thompson was the star attraction on the red carpet for the ‘Annihilation’ premiere on Tuesday (February 13) in Westwood, California, where she joined Janelle Monae, Gina Rodriguez and Natalie Portman.

We all know Tessa as a bit of a fashion daredevil who likes to take risks, but much like the ‘Thor’ premiere, she showcased her softer side for this premiere.

Soft, yet still oozing with plenty of sartorial grace.

My reaction was two-fold:

1. Thankful she opted to line the gown and;

2. Thankful she didn’t strip any of the beguiling details from this look.

It’s not easy to make a girlie girl gown look cool, but Tessa managed to nail it once again.

It’s a difficult dress but for some reason she’s making it work. Love the minimal makeup.

I really disliked this dress at first, but it’s growing on me immensely! The back is gorgeous! She just looks flawless and is really working it for me.

It’s a little post-apocalyptic milkmaid, but she’s pulling it off pretty well. She has a great presence.

+1 “Post-apocalyptic milkmaid” made me chuckle.

This was a very tough one to pull off, and the lining made all of the difference! I think it also helped that either Tessa is the same height as the runway model or they adjusted this specifically to her body. I def like the sleeves, but could also see the look working without them, as I believe the neck “ruff” detail (which seems tighter on Tessa than the model) accomplish a lot, though I think she would definitely need a couple of statement bracelets if she didn’t wear the sleeves.

I adore this dress, very memorable, and love the subtle make-up in the extreme. If you were to make circus inspired haute couture work, this, in my opinion, is what it should look like.

To quote the GFY ladies, Clown College Prom Queen. This is terrible.

I agree. I find this pretty awful.
Ive tried to like it, like everyone else here does, but I cant.

The back is especially awful. It looks like one of those cheap halloween sexy maid costumes. The strings look cheap.
Also, the collar hides all of her neck whereas on the model it doesn’t. I find it very unappealing on her.

LOVE this! BDOTY contender for me. This girl can pull off almost everything.

Tessa is wearing the hell out of this dress. On almost anyone else this would be a frou-frou prairie mess but she looks like a goddess. Definitely BDOTW, and I’ll remember this at the end of the year.

Let me join the choir and say I love this! So unique and memorable…BDOTW.

  10. TeaAtTwo February 15, 2018 at 00:03 #

She looks really good. One of the few who could make this work and not look prairie girl.

  11. Jessica February 14, 2018 at 21:52 #

Love Love LOVE this! BDOTW for sure

    • Jessica February 14, 2018 at 21:53 #

and maybe even one for my BDOTY list!

      • Fanny February 14, 2018 at 22:25 #

        BDOTY list YES!

This look is growing on me. I still sort of wish it did not have the sleeves and I get a wedding cake feel from it but she wears it so well that it is somehow working. Not a fan though of the eye makeup.

  13. Schoolbea February 14, 2018 at 21:32 #

She’s statuesque in this, beautiful! I’m on the fence with the sleeves, but she looks striking nonetheless.

  14. AnderBoBo February 14, 2018 at 20:51 #

Striking and perfectly edited for the red carpet, she looks amazing!

I’m impressed how well she pulls this off, definitely a strong, memorable look.

  16. mm February 14, 2018 at 19:57 #

love the look, it suits her and the eye make up very clever!

  17. Nat39 February 14, 2018 at 19:45 #

I’m actually wowed, the look is so distinct I’ll even remember it at the end of the year, she wears it beautifully.

    • Nat39 February 14, 2018 at 19:50 #

..and I’m absolutely happy she kept all the detailing too. That’s what makes the look more special, unusual, and sort of creates the mood of it.

  18. Leandra February 14, 2018 at 19:43 #

I’d have preferred if she had ditched the sleeves as they are nonsensical to my eye.

    • Catherine Kallon February 15, 2018 at 00:09 #

but don’t you think it would’ve been a standard halter without the sleeves

      • Leandra February 15, 2018 at 13:39 #

Yes, I agree with you but lately, I’m more inclined to find excellence in those so-called orthodox silhouettes, I mean, in the making. After Gucci’s ‘explosion’ of extra features in any single outing I got a bit enervated when I see the “extras”.
