Princess Beatrice & Princess Eugenie of York at Ascot 2017

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie of York have been out and about at the Royal Ascot 2017 in Ascot, England.

Princess Beatrice: On Day 1 (June 20), Princess Beatrice’s interpretation of formal daywear had her channeling a garden spirit in this miniature-floral-bedecked Claire Mischevani cream dress styled with a Valentino clutch, Stuart Weitzman ‘Capsize’ shoes, and a Goldust Millinery bloom-topped hat to match. I have a feeling some might find this a bit too precious.

Princess Eugenie: Princess Eugenie was the yang to Beatrice’s yin in a black, polka-dot dress worn with Reiss ‘Ellen’ heels and a bespoke Ethan K clutch. The accent colours of her hat added a brighter note to the look.

Princess Eugenie: I preferred this Day 3 look on Wednesday (June 22) to the first one, as she took a more vibrant, streamlined approach in a strawberry-red Preen ‘Elle’ dress that featured a flattering, pleated fit. What resulted was the ultimate chic, ladylike silhouette enhanced with a slight note of stylish whimsy in her wide-brim hat that complemented the look well.

Princess Beatrice: While I loved the fresh blue hue of this Amanda Wakeley dress, the colour-block sleeves gave me pause as they nearly looked as if she was wearing a black shirt under a cap sleeve. The overall fit of the frock could have also been a bit more smooth. A Nerida Fraiman hat, Nicholas Kirkwood pumps, and a Chanel bag completed the look.

Princess Eugenie’s Preen dress scored the highest marks for me. What about you?

    Horrible looks. So matronly, why??

This had so much potential, but none of these dresses seem to fit properly!

It amazes me that part of the royal family (the Queen of England is their grandmother!!) does not have style advisers as well as access to impeccable taylors!!! They may not have Kate’s stunning looks, they are however attractive young ladies who again, is part of the royal family who needs some fashion advise.

It wasn’t just your imagination, Princess Beatrice was wearing a black shirt under the blue dress. If you look at the original dress on the designer’s website, it ends at the cap sleeves. I don’t understand it at all.

Bea looks hot. And not in a sexy way.

Princess Beatrice – day 1 look.
Princess Eugenie – day 2 look.

I do think this are 4 solid looks for the royals.

These looks are appropriate for who and where they are. I wish Princess Beatrice had worn the right size dress and then had it tailored to fit because that would have been the best look of the four.

I was trying to figure out how the dress changed so much from the model, who looks like she’s wearing the perfect 1940s wedding gown, to Beatrice, who looks more Laura Ashley 80s. It’s the tailoring. On the model, the pleat starts at the waist, on Beatrice the pleat starts at the hip, causing the dress to fall differently and widen out. It also lengthens her torso. The sleeves are a couple of inches too long, too.

I was actually thinking about the blue dress in my first post but I totally agree with you about the white dress. Fit is everything and it is not just about wearing the right size. It’s also about knowing your body and looking at a design and figuring out if it works on your body. The princesses are real women with real bodies and they did not have the adjustments made that would make the dresses look fantastic on them. The white one on Princess Beatrice is loo long through the torso and the sleeves. The blue one is too tight around the hips. She probably could not have altered the white one so another choice might have been better. The blue one could have been bought one size bigger and altered through the top and would have been fantastic. To me, Princess Beatrice’s dresses have more potential than Princess Eugenie’s but ultimately Princess Eugenie looks better because both of her dresses fit.
