2017 Beijing International Film Festival

The opening ceremony of the 2017 Beijing International Film Festival in China on Sunday (April 16) brought with it a number of elaborate looks to usher in the festivities.

Liu Yifei ćˆ˜èŒœçŸŽć : It’s hard not to be fully enchanted by this Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 Couture lavender-purple confection, what with its extravagantly voluminous tulle skirt and cascades of glittering embellishment. I love how the exploded peplum folds added a modern edge to thi fairy-tale princess moment.

Jiang Yiyan 江䞀燕 : Romance was at the heart of this pink and red Valentino Spring 2017 handkerchief-hemmed dress that had a medieval meets bohemian mood. Jiang added a futuristic flash of inspiration with her silver sandals, which actually tie into the cross-body accessory—even if I do find it a bit distracting to the dress.

Janine Zhang Jun Ning ćŒ”éˆžç”Ż : With a similarly romantic spirit, this sheer Valentino Spring 2017 gown took on a bolder outlook when lined throughout in black which still translated beautifully if not differently than the original presentation.

Zhang Tianai ćŒ ć€©çˆ± : With a unique twist on the ball gown, this pink taffeta Alexis Mabille Pre-Fall 2017 dress had echoes of a man’s button-down shirt with the sleeves wrapped round into a bow. But, what came across was pure girly femininity with its bubblegum-pink hue and sweeping long skirt.

Zhao Liying è””äžœéą– : The delicately dimensional, floral embroidery on this Georges Hobeika Spring 2017 Couture gown was lovely despite its heavier alabaster underlining at the bodice that compromised the whimsy of the look and washed out Zhao, too.

Guan Xiaotong ć…łæ™“ćœ€ : Here we have another fanciful, floral-embroidered Georges Hobeika Spring 2017 design that also suffered a bit in execution as the midsection fit a bit too snug for a sleek effect.

Lin Chi-ling æž—ćż—çŽČ : This Dror Geva celebrated the hourglass silhouette with shimmering embroidery and fringe.

Ming Xi 愚怹瑀 : Leaving the more frou looks for her peers, Ming took a more straightforward turn in the Roland Mouret Benford jumpsuit, which I actually loved for its sharp lines and interesting sleeve cutouts—even if she seemed to be at a different event from the rest.
