2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards Red Carpet Roundup

More stars were also in attendance at the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday (February 25) in Santa Monica, California.

Danielle Brooks: The ‘OITNB’ actress took the plunge in an Urban Zen by Donna Karan wrap jersey tunic and pant, complemented by a body chain—as if enough attention wasn’t already directed to the girls.

Natasha Lyonne: The actress took a custom Creatures of The Wind rose and green floral dresses out for a spin. The pleated frock held promise, but I couldn’t see the forest for the trees given the clunky, distracting styling with the oversized white clutch and ivory boots.

Trace Lysette: With the day’s most forthright display of peek-a-boo panties, she wore an Elisabetta Franchi Spring 2017 lace frock with Cesare Paciotti shoes. Yes, sheer fatigue has set in but at least this look flirted with a slightly different silhouette in the short, flare skirt.

Ava DuVernay: Her Gucci dress was all about the print and the pleats, but in combination with the beige heels, the only thing I took from this look was that it was way too mumsy and bland for Ava’s dynamic vibe.

Aubrey Plaza: The compelling mix of her Versus Versace printed blouse with the shiny checkerboard skirt was enough to intrigue me. The same couldn’t be said for the black pumps.

Jenny Slate: Awash in plisse movement, the sky-blue, micro-print Luisa Beccaria Spring 2017 dress with a keyhole cutout commanded a casually alluring tone. Do you think the white Tyler Ellis clutch should’ve been smaller?

Issa Rae: Issa can be hit or miss on the red carpet, so today she kept it simple and sleek with a navy-blue gown styled with Atelier Swarovski jewelry and an Edie Parker ‘Fiona’ clutch.
