Janelle Monae In Ashi Studio Couture – 2017 NAACP Image Awards

Janelle Monae made an attention-grabbing entrance at the 2017 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday (February 11) in Pasadena, California.

While she recently took a slight detour from her signature monochromatic looks with the introduction of a few kaleidoscope hues, I’m not missing any of them thanks to the sartorial power of this Ashi Studio Fall 2016 Couture ruffled masterwork styled with an Edie Parker clutch.

In fact, this all-black look was actually a fresh twist for the entertainer, who generally favours a black-and-white colour combination.

Possessing the sculptural lines for which the designer is known, the gown was emboldened even further with the slight glint of all-over tonal embellishment.

And, lest any of you were possibly left craving a pop of brightness, her candy-red lip likely will have satisfied.

the dress is just wow. It’s amazing to see a slight frame like Janelle pull off such a voluminous gown. the shoes are so so , and I dislike the child-like hair but it’s no big deal. Overall she’s killing it

The gown is spectacular, the sculptural skirt is brilliant, and looks like a turtleneck combo is getting popular, although here it works better imo. than what we’ve just seen on Paz Vega – the embellishments pull the combo together, it looks smooth and coherent, whereas in Paz’s version the very plain casual turtleneck was a harsh contrast (although it was still a strong look for her overall). The hooves on her feet are unfortunate.

I wish she chose different shoes but she is so gorgeous and wears this so so well I can’t even think about the shoes

Oh my the DRAMA! It’s actually very impressive that being so petite, she doesn’t let the gown overshadow her. The shoes are kind of hoof-like, but other than that, a fatastic look

There is something about this on Janelle that is not working for me. I think this dress is for a much taller woman.

    This is amazing.

I love how the hair creates an even more interesting silhouette. BDOTW contender for sure.

+ 1, this is the first look where her current hairstyle makes sense

I love the way Janelle Morae dresses – she always looks unique, doesn’t rely on cleavage & see through silliness to make you sit up and take notice. She looks fabulous here, so classy and stylish.
