2015 Malaga Film Festival Opening Ceremony
Spanish stunners were out in force for the 18th Malaga Film Festival opening ceremony, hosted at the Cervantes Theater on Friday (April 17) in Malaga, Spain. Here, a roundup of the looks—many from Spanish designers, naturally—that took to the red carpet.
Manuela Velasco: The star’s pastel-blue Oscar de la Renta high-low gown with metallic flowers was surprisingly one of the more subtle, safe pieces on the red carpet. She reflected the silver in the dress with her Aquazzura pumps. She looked lovely with her sideswept waves yet something about this ensemble registered as too precious for Manuela.
Silvia Abascal: Nixing a gown, the actress took an edgier angle in a Stéphane Rolland Spring 2015 Couture white jumpsuit with golden sash embellishment paired with stacked Christian Louboutin shoes for added height. Carrera y Carrera jewels added a Spanish touch. In theory, I loved the artistry of this look with the swoosh of the long cape. But I cannot get past the nude illusion panel that sadly compromises the design.
Belén López: In a thoroughly theatrical, va-va-voom move, Belén wore an all-over sequin plunge gown from Spanish designer Vicky Martín Berrocal. The long kimono sleeves with fringe took the glittery look to overcooked territory, but to her credit, she kept her styling as sleek as possible with a pulled-back bun and oxblood lip.
Maria Leon: While the mixed prints, netting and sheer lace inset paneling of this Stella McCartney gown create an interesting flair, they also prove rather unflattering to the chest area. But it was Maria’s wet-look hair that I most wanted to change.
Sara Rivero: Donning Spanish designer Juanjo Oliva, the actress was striking in the geometric printed gown that could have passed for an abstract art canvas.
Silvia Alonso: The starlet’s Stella McCartney asymmetric cutout dress was minimalistic with a flamenco flair given the ruffles and pleats of that skirt. Metallic sandals and ruby-red earrings finished the look.
Elisabeth Reyes: The model was statuesque in a diaphanous red gown by Spanish designer Iván Campaña. While the dress provides yet another rendition of the sheer trend, this version was quietly rather than overtly seductive with its tonal red layers, all electrified by the gold belting.
Ruth Núñez: Also choosing a solid colour, the actress opted for a black Pepe Botella gown that was beautifully detailed with lace at the bodice and layers of chiffon skirting. Pendant earrings and a metallic clutch added some pizzazz.
Irene Montalá: While I love the deep eggplant hue of Irene’s Cristina Tamborero gown, the look suffered with some fit issues at the bodice and with underwhelming styling that lacked a sense of excitement.
Ruth Gabriel: The second lady in red, Ruth wore a Rubén Hernández Costura gown that also featured a gold metallic belt. Unfortunately, the plunge neckline with illusion netting wasn’t all too flattering to the chest and the gathered, draped detailing at the front didn’t translate as seamlessly as I would have preferred.
