BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock! Red Carpet Roundup

BET's 'Black Girls Rock!' Red Carpet roundup

More stars took to the red carpet at BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ special at NJ Performing Arts Center on Saturday (March 28) in Newark, New Jersey, donning a variety of looks to round out the evening.

Tracee Ellis Ross: The ‘Black-ish’ star wore a white-ish Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2015 asymmetric gown that had its very own split personality. The flowing Grecian lines on the one side were juxtaposed by a thigh-high slit and colourful spirograph print on the other. The daring purple lipstick was fully aligned with the patterned side of the dress.

Kat Graham: Pairing a black Barbara Bui top with a leggy Anthony Vaccarello skirt with a side train, Kat oozed sexy edginess. But I almost preferred the Cushnie et Ochs grommet dress she wore while announcing Cheryl Lynn’s performance.

Danielle Brooks: The ‘Orange is the New Black’ star also went for an all-black look, donning a plunge jumpsuit that could have used a hit of colour to take it to the next level. As presented, it was too one-note.

Jill Scott: She had me at hello with that glorious rockin’ ’fro, which she paired with a sporty plunge jumpsuit with racing stripes for retro-fabulous flair. I do wish she had left those gaudy platform shoes at home and worn a more streamlined black sandal instead. The pop of colour should have instead been reserved for her lip, where a hot-pink gloss would have been a fun replacement for her deeper, oxblood shade.

Regina King: The actress strayed away from black and white for an ultra-shiny, metallic-silver suit. Adding even more high-octane styling, she wore matching silver pumps and slicked on a punchy pink lip. Too much?

Willow Smith
: Willow supported her Star Power Award-winning mom, Jada Pinkett-Smith, at the event. But the young entertainer looked every bit the star in her mannish monochromatic gray suiting, which mixed chic sportiness with urban street edge. The power of the look was in the details—from the hand sleeves, to the chunky black platform sandals worn with socks, and her bright fuchsia lip.
