2015 Golden Globes Menswear Roundup

2015 Golden Globes Menswear Roundup

The guys were none too shabby when it came to their sartorial selections at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, held last night (January 11) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, boasting a range of looks that went way beyond the standard black tux.

Matt Bomer: The Best Supporting Actor winner for ‘The Normal Heart’ was dressed just as winningly in an impeccable Ralph Lauren Black Label navy shawl collar tuxedo that naturally brought out his own baby blues and was handsomely paired with a dark bowtie and crisp white button-down shirt.

Eddie Redmayne: Looking as sharp as ever, ‘The Theory of Everything’ Best Actor winner took a Euro-cool version of black velvet out for a spin, donning a Gucci notch-lapel, two-button New Signoria evening jacket with a white evening shirt, black satin bowtie, black tuxedo trousers and black patent leather lace-up shoes.

Alan Cumming
: Having quite the nude moment, ‘The Good Wife’ actor and nominee wore a buff wool, two-button peak lapel tuxedo, buff dress shirt and buff silk skinny tie from the Spring 2015 Calvin Klein Collection. Between the monochromatic buff-ness and the rolled pant legs, not to mention his Christian Louboutin ‘Mika On Stage’ sneakers, this look translated as more comical than cool.

Matthew McConaughey: Sporting a good deal of scruff, the Best Actor nominee suited up in a dapper Dolce & Gabbana aubergine three-piece, peak-lapel tuxedo as he stood alongside his pretty plus-one, Camila Alves. However, despite the intriguing colour, the effect came across as sloppier than I’d like. What do you make of his eggplant-hued effort here?

Jared Leto: Also rocking a major beard—and a man-braid—the entertainer marched to the beat of his own drum when it came to his ensemble. He eschewed the more expected, darker tones for a Lanvin off-white tuxedo with black satin peak lapels and piping from the Ete 2015 Pre-Collection, matched with a white button-up dress shirt, off-white satin bowtie and Christian Louboutin Dandelion Flat shoes. The ivory colour simply didn’t work for me here.

Clive Owen: Looking smooth in velvet, ‘The Knick’ actor and nominee wore a Giorgio Armani emerald green velvet two-button notch lapel evening jacket with a classic white evening shirt, classic black trousers and a bow tie that likely proved warm-ish by the end of the night.

Channing Tatum: Striking his signature hunk-star gaze, the actor wore a traditional yet striking Dolce & Gabbana black textured, three-piece notch-lapel tuxedo that fit him like a glove—the perfect accompaniment to his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, in a luscious lemon-yellow gown.

Jake Gyllenhaal: Also going for the more classic route, the ‘Nightcrawler’ actor and nominee wore a Gucci Made to Order black shawl-lapel, one-button Marseille tuxedo with a white evening shirt, black silk bowtie, and black leather lace-up shoes.

Adrien Brody: Working dark tonal shades, the actor paired his Givenchy suit with Christian Louboutin Greggo patent flats. It’s possible I would have preferred this with a white dress shirt.

Kit Harrington: The ‘Game of Thrones’ star wore a more-or-less standard Emporio Armani suit and bowtie that was nice but forgettable.

David Oyelowo: The ‘Selma’ actor and nominee shone brightly—literally—on the red carpet in his metallic-blue Dolce & Gabbana notch-lapel tuxedo worn with a white dress shirt, dark bowtie, and Jimmy Choo ‘Sloane’ sparkling loafers. Too much glitter or all good?

John Krasinski
: Perfectly paired to the white-gown-clad Emily Blunt, the actor wore a Made-to-Measure midnight navy, two-button notch-lapel tuxedo with grosgrain details, paired with a white dress shirt, and dark grosgrain bowtie, all by Ermenegildo Zegna.

Common: The entertainer also opted for the monochromatic route in navy blue, outfitted in a Prada smoking mohair two-button, notch-collar tuxedo, blue popeline leggero tuxedo shirt, blue satin bowtie and black patent leather lace-up shoes.

Joshua Jackson: With Diane Kruger at his side, the actor showed off a classically timeless Berluti black wool and mohair, peak-lapel smoking tuxedo jacket with matching trousers over a white cotton evening shirt with a black silk bowtie. The couple was picture-perfect sophistication.

George Clooney: Dressed to the nines for his Cecil B. DeMille Award, the handsome star had us swooning before he even uttered the first word of his acceptance speech. His Giorgio Armani classic tuxedo with a white evening shirt and a bowtie was understatedly refined, as he posed with wife Amal by his side.

Ethan Hawke: The ‘Boyhood’ star and nominee wore a well-tailored Dior Homme charcoal-grey wool and black silk satin, shawl-collar tuxedo, white cotton shirt, charcoal grey wool bowtie and black leather derbies.

Who struck your fancy as the best dressed of the night?
