ASOS Africa Celebrates Its 10th Season Anniversary

DSC_1651

ASOS Africa celebrates its 10th season anniversary with a selection of autumnal floral and kanga prints, with lavender, yellow and black shorts, duster jackets, shirts, trousers and dresses featuring in the collection alongside some checked pieces.

What’s great about this collection is that the fabrics are sourced locally – with the proceeds going towards boosting jobs in Kenya, where the collection is made.

Joanna Maiden from SOKO, a clothing production workshop in Kenya, told me that since the company was founded in 2011, they have expanded from a team of 4 to 45. The workforce, which is largely made up of women, receive a free lunch and on-site childcare. The financial empowerment gives them the opportunity to pay for their children’s education, among other things.

Prices start from £38 for shorts to £65 for the jacket.

Michelle Obama has been a big supporter of the ASOS Africa collection, having worn pieces from the collection on three separate occasions.

ASOS invited me to select a look from the ASOS Africa collection. My thought when selecting was, what would Solange Knowles do? Mix and match her prints, of course, plus add a statement shoe, which is what I did.

For every sale from the ASOS Africa Fall 2014 collection ASOS will donate £2 to contribute to food and welfare facilities for SOKO workers.
