Hair Trend Spotting: Sleek Ponytails

Beauty Trend Spotting Sleek Ponytails2

Many celebs are making a usually casual hairstyle red carpet worthy by slicking strands back to perfection. Pulling your hair back is an easy go-to, but these tips will take your look to the next level. Take note from Jennifer Lopez, Holland Roden, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Marano who are each showing us how it’s done.

Celebrity hair and makeup artist, Valerie Noble, shared her favorite tips to achieving a polished pony in a few easy steps. For Vanessa’s hair, Noble started with Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Anti Frizz Serum. A product like this is crucial to the style as it not only keeps frizz at bay for those with curlier textures, it will also tame flyaways.

Next, flat iron hair bone straight. Smoothing out every curl is key to creating a sleek end product. Opt for a small 1 inch iron and focus on the roots and slightly bend ends.

Once hair is straight gather all pieces. Noble says to, “brush all the hair up, just below the crown.” Location, location, location, is very important for today’s it ponytail. Placing too high can easily turn ‘80’s, so we recommend a mid to lower placement. Gather strands using Hair Bungees. Noble used them for Vanessa’s thick hair. Hair Bungees are perfect for thick hair and give more control over desired tightness. And if your ponytail isn’t as thick as you’d like, try adding clip-in extensions.

Lastly, you’ll want to secure your work with both Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk and Redken’s Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray. They not only holds hair, providing long lasting results, both will also add a healthy shine to your finished look.
