Elle Fanning In Alexander McQueen – ‘Maleficent’ Japan Premiere

Elle Fanning In Alexander McQueen - 'Maleficent' Japan Premiere

Elle Fanning attended the ‘Maleficent’ Japan premiere held at Ebisu Garden Place on Monday (June 23) in Tokyo, Japan.

The actress has stuck to an ethereal princess-like look which hasn’t strayed too far from her character in the movie, and that trend continued today.

Elle wore an Edwardian-style Alexander McQueen Fall 2014 ivory moon-and-star-embroidered silk tulle feather-hem gown styled with wavy tresses and a few rings.

You may remember that Marion Cotillard wore a similar dress to the amfAR Cannes Gala, heavily lining the piece so the embroidery wasn’t at all visible.

Elle opted to wear a tonal bodysuit instead to ensure that the exquisite detailing could be seen and that the very essence of the look was kept very much intact.

    This is one ugly dress…

Yeah, I think I’m tired of seeing her in this type of look. And it looks to negligeeish to me. As an Alexander McQueen major fan, I think I’d like this on someone else.

    A massive no from me.
    1) girl needs to start putting that hair up
    2) the dress is far too overpowering on her
    3) the color is awful against her skin

The perfect dress for their Japan stop, she looks like she walked out of a manga. Beautiful and princess-y, I love this so much.

I cannot decide how I feel about it. On the fence?
Its seems a bit overwhelming for her, little too big….but I do like the idea, and her effort. Its so much fun to watch these young girls try different looks while finding their particular styles

    ethereally effortless

I think it’s her hair that kills the look for me. It adds too much weight to such a light gown, and it makes the whole look just seem unfinished. I think she would have looked a lot better with her hair up and with slightly darker make-up.

not easy to carry off, she is young and cute enough to pull this off but it would have been better if the sleeve were tailored a tier less or shorter and minus the bow.
nevertheless, it’s always exciting to see daring choices.

Magnificent. I love everything here. It needs the faerie, ethereal look she has, and thank goodness for the bodysuit.

The only thing that would improve this for me is if she were two inches taller, but that’s a small quibble.

As Angelina says in the movie: “You look beautiful, little beastie”

  11. Marybeth June 23, 2014 at 18:38 #

I really love this —given the context.
The princessy vibe and the hint of a nightgown work well for promoting her role as Sleeping Beauty.

But I really am seeing it as a costume. For the dress to rise above that level, I think you would need someone older and fiercer.

the dress is too heavy for Elle’s frame I think. she can do better

  13. Rahul June 23, 2014 at 18:21 #

Exquisite! Elle has been fantastic during this promo your. This is one of my favorite looks from her ever! And take a bow, Sarah Burton!

  14. Yeliz June 23, 2014 at 18:12 #

    This is awful.

  15. Pedro June 23, 2014 at 18:02 #

    I love it

  16. Chloe June 23, 2014 at 17:31 #

    I’m loving this look!

  17. dee June 23, 2014 at 16:18 #

    Too costumey looking.

  18. Nat39 June 23, 2014 at 16:03 #

Even with all the detailing, it just looks like a princess nightgown, dowdy and costumey.

  19. Nicky June 23, 2014 at 15:50 #

It reminds me of a nightie a little bit, what with the bow and all, but she does look very pretty

  20. Joana June 23, 2014 at 15:38 #

Ethereal gorgeous. The best of the week.

  21. Aylin June 23, 2014 at 15:37 #

I really like it and for me this dress wouldn’t look better on an older person. It wouldn’t have that pure, enchanting look that it has on elle. And it’s alright to look like Wendy from Peter Pan because she isn’t 20, she is young and turned 16 years old a while ago.
I love her eye make up btw.

    • SilentVisitor June 23, 2014 at 16:38 #

I agree with you. Her youth is helping her here

She looks very lovely despite the dress being a bit too powerful and be wearing her and not the other way around.
But it is a very appropriate look for the occasion. She looks so happy in it.

  23. Valissa June 23, 2014 at 15:10 #

I think the dress is gorgeous and grand but it needed somebody older and with a stronger presence to be able to pull it off.
Elle isn’t more than 20 years old right? It’s all too much for her!
I do give her props for trying though and for not picking a typical boring ball gown…

    • Peony June 23, 2014 at 15:25 #

+1 I love this gown, and love the idea of it – but on Elle it looks like a case of a little girl playing dress-ups. She looks like Wendy from Peter Pan! I would have loved to see this on a woman with more presence, perhaps Cate Blanchett or Diane Kruger.

  24. Alina June 23, 2014 at 15:00 #

This isn’t working for me. AT ALL.

    • Christine June 23, 2014 at 17:41 #

      Agreed. Ugly dress

  25. BurcuA June 23, 2014 at 14:56 #

White is not the best colour for her but i love the total look and the idea !

    • sophie June 23, 2014 at 18:30 #

I agree. She can pull off most pastels, but white does not work for her at all.
