2014 CFDA Fashion Awards Models Roundup

CFDA 1

Amid the crush of starlets and designers at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards on Monday (June 2), the models definitely had their moment, too. They strutted out a range of dazzling, directional and sometimes daring looks at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

Joan Smalls: Putting her statuesque height to good use, Joan worked her midnight-navy Prabal Gurung draped, cutout gown to sexy effect also flaunting an Angelina leg through the thigh-high slit. She styled the look with metallic ankle-tie sandals and a mod fringe bang, but the gold choker necklace was unnecessary here.

Alessandra Ambrosio
: The Victoria’s Secret cat-walker took a red-hot approach in a Nonoo strapless gown featuring a structured bodice with a crossover ribbon tie at the back. She accessorized with Jennifer Fisher jewels, including a sharp, diamond-pointed pair of earrings.

Dree Hemingway: Mixing prints, Dree walked on the wild side in a loosely fitted Diane von Furstenberg Pre-Fall 2014 ‘Naomi’ dress paired with DVF’s ‘Rae’ heels. The dress was cut through with kinetic, black-and-white and cork-hued pattern panels that nearly translated as snakeskin from a distance. A lovely coral-orange lip was her best accessory here, whereas a leopard clutch was a bit more questionable.

Chrissy Teigen: The model stunned in a boldly hued coral-red Rachel Roy leggy frock with netted overlay, matched with a structured blaze. Even with the gold Rodo clutch and Jennifer Fisher jewels, the look may have been more daytime-chic than the event demanded (especially given the nude pumps), but the colour still had me captivated.

Liya Kebede: Debuting a Wes Gordon Resort 2015 look, Liya went for an effortlessly sophisticated yet casually inspired outfit with the white wrap blouse and pattern-front skirt, topped off with white sandals and a thin nude envelope clutch.

Karlie Kloss: Never one to really drop our jaws on the red carpet, she continued a mediocre run in this Band of Outsiders ensemble with a scarf-tied top and long, side-slit skirt. The lacklustre coloration, the awkward length of the skirt, and the corset shoes weren’t doing this look any favours, although the fresh-faced Karlie was radiant despite all the rest.

Chanel Iman: Glittering in a black Monique Lhuillier Fall 2014 abstract-embroidered gown with cutout shoulder detail and illusion sleeves, Chanel perhaps had one of the more glamorous, embellished looks of the event. Too much, or just enough?

Hilary Rhoda: The delicious peachy-pink hue of Hilary’s J Mendel sheer lace, plunge gown could have easily stood on its own, especially given the additional drama of that crimson lip. Did she overcook the look with her sparkling accessories, including bold earrings, bangles and a Jimmy Choo clutch?

Iman: The fashion icon embraced her love of bold colours with a cerulean and teal Juan Carlos Obando gown, tied together with a black sash, along with over-sized gold pendant necklace and hoop earrings.

Karen Elson: Working a Midas-worthy amount of gold, Karen complemented her Michael Kors dress with a golden clutch and sandals, along with a berry lip and dark-red nails.

Anne V: In true edgy style, the model played with proportions in an over-sized, patterned Jonathan Simkhai shirt and shorts set. A slick-back ’do, moody dark oxblood lip and silver cuff further enhanced the directional statement.

Naomi Campbell: The supermodel posed in a metallic beaded, plunge-front Marc Jacobs Resort 2015 gown that came with plenty of shimmer and shine. Once again switching up her ’do, while maintaining similar makeup, she wore her dark locks in mermaid-long waves.
